I've seen many better King George winning performances than Goliath's, but still think if he repeats that here he'll win. There was no fluke about the Ascot win as it was firmly substantiated by the clock. However, when a horse puts up a hugely improved win like that there's no way of knowing if it can do it again until it does. I have it exactly a stone better than anything he'd achieved before. I have his win last time out 9lbs below that, but it was run on very heavy ground where they went slow early on, and he did it well enough in those circumstances. At these odds I'm happy to back him to back up the KG effort.

I was pleased Do Deuce won that, and what a crowd, they really get behind the horses and jockeys in ways we rarely see here. Race marred by the disappointing performances of the Europeans, blaming the slow pace and muddling race. Goliath was upset in the stalls, not well away and Soumillon was never happy, so he says. All in a heap at the finish, I think it would be difficult to rate this form that highly? but Do Deuce did well to come from last most of the way. The jockey cam on Goliath, showed Do Deuce storming on the outside in the straight, whizzing past like they were standing still.
First 5 home Japanese. I still think this race is something of an afterthought for Europeans, and they need to get serious with it earlier in the year.
Buick is riding the course so well, he already had 2 winners earlier, and took Durezza to the front from the slow pace. He seems to ride Tokyo better than any other European jockey apart from Christian Demuro.

The last European to win this was also the last one to be trained for the race, by target trainer Luca Cumani 2005 with Alkaased who broke the track record for 1 mile and a half at the time under Frankie. Interestingly he was prepped for this in the Prix Foy, where he was beaten with Luca sighting that he’d had too many spaghettis and needed it! I’d not touch a euro unless they skipped the Arc and were pointed at the race in the same way, despite whatever form they have had back here. The strange thing is how Japanese horses who have taken in an Arc trial and then ran badly in the Arc then re discover their prior form when running back in the Japan Cup. Deep Impact was one who they’d said had become a man after his trip abroad to France. This years edition with Shin Emperor placing is an example of the bounce back, Danon Decile winning the Sheena Classic proved his Derby win was no fluke and I’d like to see him aimed at the Arc not the Juddmonte, as he has the turn of foot for the race in France.

Goliath’s run may have been a sighter for Graffard who’s Calandagan would be suited to the long hone straight in Tokyo as it’d give him the time needed for his long acceleration. The prep is key to his chances, perhaps ship in earlier and recover his condition.

He's in the Juddmonte International, so why not go there?" he added. "I wouldn't mind coming back in trip and then maybe going to Japan at the end of the season, but I have to discuss it with the Aga Khan team and Princess Zahra."

People were still doubting his class and resolve until yesterday, no one was projecting his future targets because of actually having it back in April.
Hong Kong is easy pickings too.

And I think we’d all agree even more after yesterday that the Tokyo straight is as - the trainer believes made for him. Also noted some time ago.
In Hong Kong it swings round quite fast and America is tight as.

Oh I backed against Calandagan twice, in Dubai and at Epsom. Collected each time thanks, one at 14/1 that was part of a 14/1 double on World Cup Night.
I also knew his class going into yesterday’s G1 but didn’t back, not my sort of price. Hope you backed him however given your terrible record!
To think some months ago you’d backed Continuous the pacemaker for the Arc!
Can’t help if you’re unable to read between the lines with my previous post.
Keep carrying that grudge.

You should do so to save further embarrassment! I’d posted that Moore would get first run on Calandagan on the threads elsewhere. Oh and that when you nick a length at G1 it’s hard to make up.
The rest is history luv.

With two great successes in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud and then last Saturday in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Groups 1), the entourage of Calandagan has decided to skip the Juddmonte International Stakes (Gr.I) in York, a race in which he was second at City of Troy last year, with the aim of aiming for other major international races later in the season. "He has returned well from his race, but we have decided not to go to York next month," said Nemone Routh, the racing manager of the princely casaque. Calandagan ran three Group 1 races quite closely. We want to aim for big end-of-year races, and especially the Japan Cup. He will have a preparatory race before going there.

Calandagan to miss Juddmonte International as Graffard and the Aga Khan Studs cast their gaze to Japan

Calandagan will not attempt to add the Juddmonte International to his recent Group 1 triumphs in the King George and Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud. Trainer Francis Graffard had suggested in the run-up to the King George that stablemate Daryz was more likely to head to York, but in the immediate aftermath of Saturday's defeat of Kalpana at Ascot, he admitted to being tempted to back. However, the Aga Khan Studs' racing manager in France, Nemone Routh, said Calandagan's main focus will be the Japan Cup on November 30, for which he is eligible for a bonus of up to $3million on top of the already generous prize pool, having won two qualifying Group 1s this summer. Routh said Calandagan had returned to Chantilly in good form after a win which could put him very close to joining the three-way tie at the top of the Longines World's Best Racehorse Rankings when the next update is released on August 14.
"He’s pretty professional now with all the travel and he’s back cantering and has taken the race well," said Routh. "We just felt that we want to have some end-of-season international objectives with him and Francis is very keen to run him in the Japan Cup. That’s his objective and he’ll have one run before then. "In terms of going to York, I think he could have done it, but we felt that would be four races at Group 1 level quite close together and you don’t want to push the boat out too far, so we decided to take him out. "He’s going to stay at Aiglemont, he’s not going back to the stud, but he’ll have a bit of a quiet time with the idea of having the one prep before going to Japan." Calandagan would be bidding to bridge a 20-year gap back to the most recent European winner of the Japan Cup in Alkaased.
Unbeaten three-year-old Daryz could still represent Graffard and the Aga Khan team in the £1.25m Juddmonte International, for which he is a best-priced 12-1. "The whole team needs to discuss it and a lot will depend on how the horse is and how he works, but he’s in great form," said Routh. "I would say there’s a slight preference to go to York. "It’s a big ask for him because he’s quite an immature horse, but he has learned with every race. He has improved a lot with every race and we’re hoping it won’t be coming too soon." Were he to take up the option, Daryz could well be up against Japanese opposition in the shape of Danon Decile, who beat Calandagan to win the Dubai Sheema Classic in April, although Routh stressed that a final decision would be made nearer the time, with the alternative plan being to stay nearer to home in the Group 2 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano at Deauville on August 16.

I can understand the decision taken by connections of Calandagan post King George's triumph. The Juddmonte could come too soon, and is over 10f (not 12f). I hope Daryz runs. He's touted as a possible serious Arc contender.

Christophe Lemaire thinks that this year 2025 is more propitious than the others, for the European thoroughbreds contending for the Japan Cup: "If the Europeans are to win the Japan Cup, it may be this year declared the sevenfold Golden Whip in Japan." In horses of age over 2,400 meters, the Japanese are not armed to the teeth, and certainly, there is Danon Decile but he will have traveled this year and there is no scarecrow as it could have been the case with Equinox, Orfevre, Gentildonna or Kitasan Black. In my opinion, Calandagan (scheduled for the Japan Cup to date) will have a good chance, he is well on the right ground, the distance (2,400 m) and he is a great horse. Furthermore, regarding foreign competitors in Japan, Christophe Lemaire learned that the JRA (the Japanese France Galop) has implemented measures for visitors, who have better conditions, particularly at the quarantine level. This one is located in the heart of the racetrack whereas previously, it was about thirty kilometers away and with complicated logistics and more difficulties to maintain their physical condition.
