All the serious chat on here is about the 'Derby' but before that we have a big weekend on the Curragh. Has to be interesting especially on juicy ground. Can the Newmarket runner up land the colts classic for the shy and retiring Mr. Hannon junior. Never one to boast Mr. Hannon has stated this is his best colt. Is there a fly in the ointment? Soft ground ? River Tiber maybe ? The fillies is more open looking with Donnacha O B in with a big shout to win a classic especially with the noises emanating from Ballydoyle about Opera. Door is open for the younger O Brien. Plenty others will fancy their chances.
Rain and plenty of it forecast for Sat/Sun with heavy showers in between. Yes your right my weather forecasters are RTE via Met office and pretty sure they are Haydock's forecasters as well. So fingers crossed that they have it wrong again but will dress for the worst while hoping for the opposite.

Unless the heavens open big time I think Rosallion will not have an easier opportunity to win another Gp 1 race. I'm hoping Haatem can repeat his run at Newmarket should the ground turn softish. I believe the course was watered yesterday too.

Looking forward to this weekend at the Curragh although no bet as yet.
One thing I meant to ask here the other day was that I noticed there were no antepost big IRE races on Bfair - guineas, derby etc
any reason for that please chaps ?

Backed Rosallion for the Guineas and he ran a great race. He undoubtedly has the best form in the race and if he can reproduce that I don't see him being beaten by anything in this field. However my concern is that I rate his Guineas second a replication of his best 2yo form. Unlike the ratings firms I don't have it as an improvement. It has been said before that the Guineas can be viewed as the last 2yo race. I wouldn't say that's the case with all horses involved (certainly not this year's winner) but I wouldn't be surprised if Rosallion has reached his peak and starts to decline. So he makes no appeal at these odds. Haatem is different in that he has taken his form to a new level this year, but after two big efforts in quick succession I think he may need a break.
River Tiber and Unquestionable are the only other two with form anywhere close to Gp1 level. I have RT 1lb ahead but Unquestionable has the proven stamina. Moore, however, is on RT so I'd assume he's been showing more of the two recently. It's still anybody's guess how either will perform on the track as 3yos. I'd prefer to side with the O'Brien two over the Hannon pair because I think their freshness may outweigh superior form on this occasion, but it's no bet for me.

I would agree with the above from Figgis, though if AP's drift in betting and with no rain I may be tempted by evens or better. If any other stable (bar maybe 1 or 2) had RT he would be their superstar. Reminds me all the time of Minding's year and that classy filly Ballydoyle.

i cant back the fav at odds on, a very good 2nd in the gns and should go close here but at the prices i will take him on with unquestionable and mountain bear each way , unquestionable was a good 2nd to rosalion in a group 1 in france and won the breeders cup juvenile turf and comes here fresher than some has proven stamina for the trip and that could prove vital in the closing stages, aob has said he had a bit of a setback but hopefully he will be forward enough here ,mountain bear is more exposed than most but showed he got the trip well when 2nd behind unquestionable in the turf and delivered late could get into the places running on when some have had enough , around 10s and 20s the 2 they will do for me.

If City Of Troy does not stay at Epsom and blow up at the 2f marker could he pitch up at SJP? If so, he'd be a major fancy too. But, Notable Speech for me. The horse has tactical speed, and can quicken.
In the 1000G tomorrow I fancy Fallen Angel. I think she needed the English equivalent race, and the anticipated rain could be a help too; Opera Singer will come on plenty from it, according to her trainer.

Tattersalls Gold Cup (Sunday): I like the way White Birch has been striding out strongly at the end of his last 2 (winning) races. He looks to be better than last year and has a really good attitude. By contrast, Auguste Rodin would probably get the comment "unreliable sort" if it wasn't for him winning several G1s in between some shockers. I have a feeling that he could throw in the towel if White Birch keeps running strongly to the line. I also suspect that Auguste would prefer 1m4f. I will be laying Auguste Rodin if he goes odds on.

Auguste Rodin is a prime candidate for 'laying' (percentage-wise). He's a disgruntled horse not totally in love with the game. He's a drifter here too.

Another very good performance from Rosallion, I have him down only 3lbs from Newmarket. Contrary to my thinking that Haatem may need a break I actually have him up 1lb from Newmarket.
I backed Fallen Angel in the 1000 Guineas where she was disappointing with no obvious excuse. It wasn't so bad that it would be a shock if she bounced back today and at her best I have her 2lbs ahead of the fav Opera Singer. I wasn't planning on backing her today but I'm half tempted by her price. Vespertilio's second to Fallen Angel doesn't leave her with a great deal to find against the top two, and on the face of it she ran a decent race in France. I'm not convinced that form proves she has trained on though as it was so slowly run that the form doesn't amount to much. If anything else wins they'll either have to improve a bundle or it will be a very poor race.

It's a bank holiday weekend. As such, I'll wager 1/2 a roast chicken on Fallen Angel. I hope the Fallen Angel will atone otherwise no consideration in the Coronation Stakes next month.

A fine weekend of racing at HQ. Good results for punters throughout both days, especially on Saturday. In the ring there may have been a brief touch of 11/10 about the 2000Gns winner. But evens available aplenty. Fallen Angel was very well supported to deliver and put in a cracking performance. The Moyglare 2023 winner enjoying the rain softened ground. A great cheer arose from the stands when the commentator called White Birch upsides AR. CT Keane is top man and showed again at this meet why he is Ireland's best. The papers today or at least some are saying the people streamed in to the course. I could not agree with that assessment. Smallish crowd both days Sat and Sun to my eyes. This was a big weekend for HQ. Weather probably impacted as I cannot remember ever being so cold at a race meeting in the month of May. On Saturday north east wind drove most to seek indoor shelter. Sunday seemed to give hope for a much better day but change came a calling and the showers were monstrous, and made it cold as well. Tough day day for Lady's day but the hats were very pretty. Ground on Sunday started on 'Good' but steadily went slower. The last few fillies were loaded for the 1000gns in a heavy shower but this shower seemed to get the hurry-up and most of the race was run in fine sunshine as the rain scampered towards Newbridge, (chased by Fallen Angel)
