I told Danny going out that there will be a gap down my inside at the second-last, do not come for it. He hasn't listened to me
So said Patrick Mullins.

Who the hell does he think he is to issue instructions to another rider?
This spat, where a top trainer’s son has most clearly revealed the expectations of team tactics or the expectation of them in a valuable race, where the job of EVERY rider is to try and win, is the very best argument for cutting the number of horses trained by a single trainer in the same race.

Patrick Mullins was too arrogant to care whether what he'd done on the track was not conducive to horseracing or rules pertaining to horseracing. This can be construed this sort of "manipulation or race engineering" is the norm within Irish Horseracing esp big high profile and powerful stables with multiple runners. It's universal knowledge similar behaviour is prevalent in Irish Flat Racing even Gp 1 races.

I hope Patrick Mullins gets a severe sanction from Irish Horse Racing Board. Otherwise, their reputation and status of Irish National Hunt horseracing will resume its downward spiral decline.

Who did he think he was telling another rider what to do, where to go, where not to go etc?

Oh it was the trainer’s son, and the trainer of both the horses in question.

Would the big head have told someone from another family, riding for a different trainer how to ride?

Don’t think so.

I have always liked Willie Mullins and he is a great trainer.

But his son Patrick appears to have been spoiled rotten and on the back of his great father’s efforts, embarrasses him in front of the entire racing community by behaving like a arrogant bullying brat whilst on top of a hose his Dad trained. It also undermines the case that all the horses from the same stable in the same race are trying just as hard as if they were from different stables.

On trainer. One runner in any race. That would put a stop to this madness.

Shame on you Patrick Mullins.

Interesting to see whether Danny gets more rides for his uncle now. Or will Willie reward his son by keeping Danny off his horses and keeping Patrick on them after this.

Arrogance and a massive sense of self-entitlement, Patrick Mullins personified.

Interesting explanation in today’s Racing Post by Patrick Mullins.

Basically -I was right and I was angry and should have explained things better, and kept it in the weighing room.

But I detest a bully, and the image of a trainers son clearly having lost it, waving his arm threatening his cousin after the race because the cousin hasn’t done what he’s told says it all.

People are defined by the choices and actions they take, especially when things don’t go the way they think they should.

Patrick Mullins presents as not being a very nice man.

And a clear breach of the rules as he was trying to fix the result before the race started by telling another rider not to try for his best possible position. It is exactly that attitude from the likes of Aiden O'Brien, Mullins and Elliott yards that deters me from betting in races when they have multiple runners which means the majority of races in Ireland. I just don't trust them.

You bet on Irish Racing at your peril. The shenanigans are very rarely punished. Even if the local stewards imposed a sanction eg on Geraghty at Limerick the IHRB rescinded their decision to facilitate Geraghty riding at Cheltenham the following month.

The IHRB have scored too many own goals to be deemed fit-for-purpose.

Depends what the IHRB purpose is. If it is to plunder GB and French prize money at any cost then they are spot on. And keeping the Irish races at home as well of course. It is a business there and still a sport in GB.

"Details were revealed earlier regarding the referral to a senior steward"

Michael Sean O'thing has been appointed head of investigation.

This has been welcomed by the IRHB and everyone concerned.

Michael made history earlier this year, becoming the first visually Impaired Senior Steward of the IRHB.

He lists being a board member at Axminster and Dyson,as other notable achievements.

The hearing date has been set for 1/4/2024.

Maybe this "do come up my inside" could be referred to as 'Mullins' Law. This way it will be self-explanatory and blatantly clear with no ambiguity for any opposing jockey.
Report sageform January 6, 2024 2:56 PM GMT
Two jockeys (or 5 in the case of Mullins and Elliott sometimes)from the same yard getting joint instructions is common enough but to tell the media that your fellow jockey failed to follow YOUR orders is a new aspect of cheating.
Report impossible123 January 6, 2024 6:00 PM GMT
Will Mullins' Law apply in the Lawlor's at Naas tomorrow? Townend, Kennedy and Blackmore are riding. Oh, I've forgotten Patrick Mullins too.
Report impossible123 January 20, 2024 1:40 PM GMT
No sanction. The IRHB is truly spineless. Absolutely gobsmack!

Yes it seems Irish racing is happy with team tactics and happy with riders standing up in the saddle making threatening gestures and shouting, red faced, at a member of their own team.
Not sure they should confirm the sense of entitlement demonstrated in this case.
