Looking forward to attending this weeks 3 day meeting. Should be plenty of clues for the rest of the season.

French Dynamite was very impressive at Thurles and is currently fav at 11/2. Could be thrown in against the British handicapped horses. The other horse that catches my attention at this stage is Shakem Harry who looks feasibly weighted with 10st 6lb currently. Front runners have done well in recent years and he looks like he might improve for the extra distance as he gets older. 16/1 billy is worth a go.

Any thoughts?

Stolen Silver might not have much in hand off 150 but was really impressive at the April meeting where he seemed to thrive on the genuinely good ground. Admittedly that meeting is at the end of a long hard season and results may be a little misleading but if the forecast proves correct and there is no more rain after tomorrow, he may still have a bit more to offer and will do for me.

With so little early season form, such a hard race to be really confident.

10/12 aged 7-9
9/12 11st or below
2/12 won lto
8/12 ran within 35 days
12/12 ran twice or more at chelt
8/12 won at chelt
11/12 min 5 chase starts
10/12 rated 139 or above
6/12 won 1-3 graded chase
9/12 min 2 chase wins
9/12 already ran current season
3/12 won current season            (The Stats Don't Lie)

Any number of angles for punters, with plenty in there open to a degree of Improvement.

Even by normal standards, last years renewal looked a real end to end gallop, with the gallant Coole Cody helping to set those early fractions. That visual impression was borne out by the clock, just under 1/2 a second below standard, the 2nd quickest time of the last 8 renewals,on ground described as "good".

The sadly departed MS bucked the recent weight trend, carrying 11-05 to victory, the runner up went on to much better things later in the season.

I would agree that front runners have done well in chases around the old course in general, those wide open spaces that surround the track can be deceptive, setting the right pace will be key come the weekend.

The age stat I find intriguing,we have to go back to 2013/2014 to find the last two winners aged below 7, which might be a starting point.

Just how much do we want a horse with experience around here on the radar, how much of that is reflected in current ratings ?

Four horses caught my attention at the initial entry stage,3 of those left at the 5 day stage.

No particular order ... Il Ridoto,Demachine and Galahad Quest, each for varying reasons.

Open look at the moment judging by the market, will have a closer look once we have final decs.

Finally a question If I may ... Anyone know why they changed the standard times between 2017 to 2018 ?

That’s a good question Noc. The only two things I can think of that would change times would be the repositioning of the down fence just before the straight or moving the start either forward or back ? Both probably wrong Laugh

Thanks Brandy. Do you go to Cheltenham meetings or the Festival?

I’ve just looked at Friday’s card and it wouldn’t tempt me out of the pub. Highest rated horse 145 and difficult to get excited about watching any of those races. I used to enjoy the Friday of the November meeting but I’ll be sticking to Saturday and Sunday this year.

Like Ga Law in this who's near the top of the mkt.
Ran a nice race 1st time up when 3rd in the Old Roan
Chse, made a blunder 5out which may have cost him the
race,certainly would've been closer than the 1 1/4Ls
he was btn.
Around 6/1 across the board.
