Morning GI
Summed up the day HS,was confident he could pick the winner up at the business end,he flattened out towards the finnish, best horse won on the day,no complaints. Classic example of not being a slave to ratings, every single one of them including Official Ratings are someones opinion, nothing wrong with having a different view.HS finnished like a train in that skybet chase,he also needed a penalty to get closer to a national run, that was the thinking for him. I,m guessing you were there yesterday.Saw an interview with the Clerk on C4,breath of fresh air,he was delighted with the fields and so he should have been, amazing how trainers will follow the money, really good advert for scottish racing,we could learn from them down here. Hows that study going everyone? Nice look to plenty of the championship races, that Supreme looks a cracker if most stand their ground. Good to see some early opinions,as always,a little lady luck for everyone, would not go amiss. |

Aye, I was there, couldn't miss out on seeing Buveur D'Air in the flesh. Probably the best card in terms of quality I have seen at the course, they have done a cracking job with this meeting. Great racing with some good finishes and yes local team did well. The stats this year for Ann Hamilton are remarkable, 43% strike rate!
HS will be a bet for the SGN, but only if soft, I think the ground is key to him. Yaking a break from the festival study today, having a bogle at the Midlands National. I'll ping one over I'm looking at for the Grand Annual though, a second opinion would be welcome. Might have to back this Donkey Years..... |

How was "Buveur The Daddy"
Anybody on him (I was) for his Supreme, will remember what happened on the day,the money came for his stablemate,Hendo comments about this years two made me chuckle. They may not have worked with each other, but they will have ran both against a decent work horse,in varying conditions, thats his job, they will know which one might be more forward at this stage of their career. Just the 38 in GA,gun to head,I thought you might have 2 in mind. The novice you put up in last years supreme is also entered,he has a run style that has provided a few winners in recent runnings. The second one is the one you mention, had a close look at him already, pretty sure Fab is also a fan of the horse. If he was anywhere near his best,he would carry this lot off that mark,my big fear would be the pilot,I have the stable jockey +5lb over fences,we will see. Not just him, this is their Olympics, plenty will be nervous wrecks going out on a fancied horse, especially with the crowds back, how much of that is transferred through the reins. Just the 20 allowed, still might be compressed if plenty up top stand their ground, will get back to you once had a proper look. |

Best I keep my thoughts on The Grand Annual to myself, never had the winner, and almost certain I’ve never had one placed. Won’t stop me trying though.

Yep,not great this end in recent seasons, always a tough one to work out. Previously run on the new course, just the one renewal on the old course,so little to go on historically. Looking through the list of previous winners, class has come to the top, nothing carried below 10-11 in the last 9 runnings,is that connected to the compressed handicaps. Always thought you wanted one that stayed further on the new course, time will tell if changing courses will give us a different set of results, the pace angle might be different too. In a word ....Tough. |

Getting closer gents....
Looking at the 5day decs for the Supreme and Ballymore. 8 of the 17 entries in the Supreme are Mullins 10 of the 18 entries in the Ballymore are Mullins Only 4 of them are entered in both of these races, leaving 14 novices in total, quite remarkable. They are all solid promising novices to boot, but all in one stable, fair play to him but this cannot be healthy for the game. Elliot, Hendo and Nicholls all have 3 individual novices entered in both, leaves 7 for everyone else. |
|
By:
It's a huge weight of talent in one stable, isn't it? O'Brien's strength on the flat is also significant
but if the jumps was a board game, Mullins would be building hotels on Park Lane and Mayfair. |
|
By:
Which begs the question .... Why?
Each 5 day dec comes at a fee,for plenty of horses they have no intention of running. What kind of owner(s) would allow that to happen .... Do they get a refund in some way? GI ... Don't tell me your looking at Aintree already ![]() Bound to be a few more changes before kick-off,all part of the fun. Day 1 could set the tone, looks a cracking card, will be exciting to see the crowds back, truly wonderful place to be,Cotswolds in March. Bring It On. |
|
By:
As well as Why, also How? It's all about the sourcing for me, we can all argue about the merits of one trainer over the other but it's the one thing Mullins does better than anyone and that is getting the talent. Its why plenty of UK ownwers have moved to him, and Elliot I guess.
Anyways, all part of the fun as you say. Not onto Aintree yet noc! Last day of work.... |
