Evening both

Great to have you on board, expecting nothing other than top quality punting.

Lots to discuss, plenty of angles to cover,no doubt a little banter on the way Wink

Big changes for me,always thought about narrowing down my target races, especially on the flat.

The main reason would be time.If we ever go back to some form of normality, the weekends normally involve plenty of golf,as do weekdays given half a chance.Once that old sun comes out,so do the holiday brochures from you know who, even with no foreign travel at the moment, various breaks will be found.

Looking to concentrate on races over 1m 4f and above, especially those over the staying distances.

Some of my favourite races in the calendar are way below that, thats going to be tricky.

Another big topic is jockeys,in my case it targets Apprentices.Whippin already knows I have had one jockey on the radar for sometime now, nothing better than seeing young talent come through.Finding a decent claimer before the headlines, can have its advantages.

Unlikely to be too much early doors, plenty of decent NH racing stills to muddle through.

As the opening post says, everyone is welcome, can be a tough game at the best of times.

Looking forward to the wooden spoon,as usual Happy

Cheers Noc, don’t expect to be on too much until Royal Ascot, don’t bet too much before then, but I’ll try my best.

Main aim is to avoid too many Anteposts, but I’ll see how it goes.

Good afternoon, Noc

I think you've got the right idea to specialise in certain types of races if you have a limit on the time you can/want to dedicate to the game. Personally I look at most races and if the "price is right" I will step in.

Last flat season was my best ever, even though we missed the first few months. But you can't standstill in this game and you have to keep looking at new ways of doing things and new angles into races. I've been working on a few things over the winter in the hope I can improve on those profits this flat season. It will involve more work in the recording selections/lists department but as we all know, there's just no shortcuts in this game!

I know you enjoy seeing a young jockey rising through the ranks and hopefully taking advantage of their claim to gain an edge in the market. Hopefully the one you've mentioned can kick on this season and if he puts a few wins on the board early doors, he could just be worth a small investment for the apprentice championship.

I'm moving onto the Flat now and I'm looking forward to the start of the season on Saturday. Hopefully I shall be in the black by the time you and Fab put your Flat punting boots on. Grin

A late good evening WP

Pay no heed to Fab .... He will still have an unexposed 9 yr old for the Epsom Dash Shocked

Is there a punter out there not been on the wrong end of a woeful ride ?

In both codes I have a long list of "untouchables",It amazes me they get the same gigs year in year out.

Thats why I go to the other end, they come with far less baggage, initially anyway.

On the subject of jockeys,is the weight variation due to no saunas etc ... still in place?

I,m convinced thats why the likes of Marquand/Doyle stood out last season, they had their weight under control.

Good to see you tinkering WP,your pretty selective anyway,we all need to stay sharp, even when its going ok.

The early May meeting at Goodwood used to be my season kick-start,a course that can infuriate at the best of time.

That might be a question for you WP/Anyone .... Do you have courses that are just a no no ?

Good evening Noc

Is that the 9yo who's been lightly raced over the seasons to protect his mark for the dash? Grin You're not wrong about dealing with selections that have been given poor rides, sometimes the gaps just won't come but sometimes it would be nice to see a jockey make his own luck in a race.

I assume that the one meeting rule for jockeys stays in place for 2021? I like this rule, it can only help jockeys with regards to burnout and such.

Goodwood is certainly a course where you need the gaps to appear for you. I don't really have a course I avoid but I would say at Chester I'm even  more selective than I already am!

I think Facts philosophy of playing mainly at Grade one tracks has a lot of merit. I think we can all agree that form at the higher end is much more dependable and by and large horses are much more likely to show a consistent level of form in this sort of grade. Good luck with those first 2 bullets of the season, Facts.
