Spare a thought for Crosspark, last winning mark 135 in feb 2019.
Two years later, without a success, tops this lot off 150,how can that attract owners long term ?
He,s an 11 yr old,by my calculations, misguided or not,I would have him off 132 today.
Change the system overnight, placed horses get a reduction in mark,2lb for second,3lb for third.
Unplaced horses are reviewed every 3 races, pulled up requires a 30 day holiday, far too much of this going on.
What we have at the moment lacks any kind of fore-thought.
Qualifying races like the Pertemps Final would be another area, bundles of opportunity for horses of all calibre, less racing and bigger cards might also attract more paying customers,it might also cut down costs for trainers/owners in the bleak times forecast ahead.
Quite sad looking at that Whitbread race today, how things have changed.
I digress,4 tricky handicaps and some classy sorts ensure something for everyone, whatever your stance.
Tough looking day.

morning noc Tough racing indeed, hcps are wide open. Interesting idea RE handicaps, would add some more variables into the puzzle; running for 3rd place to get a drop in the weights...

Crosspark has finished 2nd in good class handicaps 5 times in his last 6 runs, inc only beaten in three, by 1 length, 3/4 and nose respectively. Which is why handicapper hasn't relented.
Re ' place ' results, the Official Ratings will always be reflected on the distance the horse is beaten by. Obviously a horse finishing 2nd bearen a short head, is not going to be viewed the same as one beaten 20 lengths.
In my calculations i look at the horses relationship between their finishing position and the race distance.. eg a horse finishing 2nd btn 1/2 length over 2m I would count as a ' winner ' as would one finishing 4th btn 3 lengths over 3 miles

Aye ,a three runner handicap might be very interesting.
Perfectly answered Facts re Crosspark, except for one thing.
Would he have a 1 to his name if the handicapper had relented ?
Not a big yard, superbly handled to produce his running 5/6 times, bottom line is he,s getting beat.
The only way they can get him down is to mask his ability .... Is that the way forward ?
Giving trainers another option is my thinking, the system at present only encourages skull-duggery.
It goes much deeper, are Veteran races another cop out for an antiquated system that rewards mediocrity.
Finnishing positions are tricky,a huge % of these races make a mockery of the term handicap.
Horses being shoved along after one fence/hurdle .... a disgrace, hence the ban from running.
No easy solutions granted,I would like to see more competitive racing full stop.

A lesson for all of us,stuck with it until that door finally opened.
Puts the work into every selection, delighted to see you get the rewards for that effort.
Top guy, quietly goes about his business, absolute pleasure to be around.
Facts ... Same sentiment, plenty of close ones went against you,no mind you kept at it.
I have little doubt you will come back stronger than ever, respect.
There has been the odd winner just outside the top of the market,I might call them "Dylans" from now on.
Couple still owe me that might get the nod for Punchy,we will see.

Thanks both .... Always tricky these back-end meetings.
Better luck with Ten Ten I hope Fab,that was a nonner in my book....Infuriating as a punter.
Your still sussing them JP horses out, always felt win only from that crew.
Lets see how Hurricane gets on today, both of his have a squeak in the opener.
Never been to the track, the back drop on some of the shots looks amazing, lovely course.
Another tough looking day handicap wise, getting one right can be the difference.
GL those playing.

Cheers Noc, very lucky with Ten Ten the other day, had him with a couple of forms, both refunded, but I wouldn’t even have looked for it, assumed he’d be declared a runner.
Fancy him today, but I think he’s going to be a “nearly” horse for me. Definitely be giving Scoir Mear a go as well

Thanks Noc, much appreciated. Really enjoyed it again, and a belter for yourself, and some serious hits for you at Cheltenham. Looking forward to the break now, bar the odd Flat bet, but it’ll be Galway before you know it.
