Been a while since I posted on here but cant help myself given the meeting about to come up.
Picked out a couple for this race ante post and was lucky to get on Nube Negra early doors @ 16-1 so sitting pretty on that one but its my other pick which is really interesting.
Pearl Of The West is trained by the little known Irishman John McConnell but is clearly a man keeping on the right side when he brings one over here. He landed a bit of a touch when the selection hosed up at Cheltenham back in October and hasnt been since until putting up his best effort on the a/w after a 153 day break when a running on second at Dundalk.
Amazingly the handicapper has only put him up a pound, which, given the confidence in the ring that day, suggests its a punitive rise and one which is more than capable of overcoming.
McConnells record at Scottish tracks bears the closest inspection too. From 20 runners he's had 8 winners, 7 seconds and 3 3rds whilst the owner is 4 from 10 with 5 seconds.
The icing on the cake would be if Dickie Johnson gets to ride as he is 6 from 12 for the trainer and 3 from 5 plus 2 seconds for the owner. As Phillip Hobbs doesnt have any entries in the race it is a distinct possibility.
All in all I reckon the 16-1 at Laddies and Corals is worth a stab, generally at 14 and 12 poke elsewhere, as he looks pretty certain to run given the dry forecast this week. I could see him going off single figures on the day.

Sean Bowen - who is 4 winners and and 2 seconds from 6 rides for McConnell - is jocked up to ride. Surprised about that as Johnson looks to be riding there on Saturday but Bowen riding well just now and he does have a 25% strike rate at Ayr over hurdles so not a bad booking.

good luck op i also like the look of pearl of the west ,not many better than bowen and trainers stats over here stack up . cant seem to get skelton right and the price has gone now anyway for me . will have a go at pearl at 16s lads .
Redicean for me. Progressed about a stone on the flat over the winter and perhaps they've been avoiding winter ground with him. Not the smartest 4yo bunch from last year but looks feasibly treated and did attract significant money on Sunday. Struggle to see him not being placed at the least.
Don't think there is an obvious case for Nube Negra. Malaya could improve again but there is nothing in the price imo.

Redicean has a perfectly good chance Pret but is only a few pounds better off for his comfortable defeat by POTW. Admittedly it was Rediceans first run of the season and a fast run race would probably suit him better but at the prices Id prefer POTW.
I think with Nube Negra its a combination of the Skelton factor and that he has always been well regarded. His latest run at Newbury was a bit ill-judged. IMO they were giving him a confidence booster after being battered when he was brought down the time before and I just get the feeling they have targeted this race since. Good luck with Redicean though!

Decent field declared and looks more competitive than I thought it would be.
Skelton had a double today which bodes well for all his runners tomorrow including NN. Quite tempted to cash out for a £60 profit...but fek that!
POTW starting to contract this evening but thats probably due to the majority of the fancied horses being at around the right price and he was definitely on the big side, in handicapping terms at least.
Looks a great precursor to the National..surprised no-one has put up a thread but fwiw Im on Takingrisks e/w at 33's.

Cracking race in prospect, compelling case for POTW u have a nice price on that one. I've gone for Equus Amadeus ew, the ground will hopefully suit.
