No fred as yet but hope this doesnt become another silly end of season lets throw everything from the Nicholls and Henderson yard at it race.

A quick scoot through the entries, quite like the look of Pendra at 20-1, Vyta Du Roc same price and maybe Doing Fine if he sneaks in under a penalty though Mullholland clearly has better fancied entries.

Horses of all ages and profiles have won though not many had actually won that season and certainly no more than once.

Looks like being good ground with hardly any rain forecast. Thoughts?

Betil, I've a few quid ew on Pendra, along with Theatre Guide at 40's. Can easily see the pair of them making the frame. Bet them when the entries came out, though my main fancy is Rock The Kasbah at 33's.

Like the way he ran behind American last time, and I think he's on a very nice mark. Had this race in mind for him all season, and very hopeful of a big run. Bit worried he won't be declared tomorrow, and I think there's a couple of races at Punchestown later in the week he could head for, but I'm hoping to see him still there at the 5 day stage for this anyway.

Happy memories of Mr Frisk wining this race in 1990. Following up his brilliant win in the Grand National, he jumped like a buck in front. Led all the way and won easily. Had his favoured Firm ( remember this going condition ?) ground.

Henderson in the RP says Vyta du Doc 20/1 Will run in Bet365 gold cup...

On a real good mark.... needs horses to come out though.. .

Can't ignore last year's winner JUST A PAR backed him also at 20s...

PENDRA would have been my main choice had there not been a trainers title battle...

But those are my three as expect these to be a lot shorter at 5 day decs.. .

Good luck
Report IrisDeBalme April 24, 2017 3:44 PM BST
Nice too see Nicholls firm on riding plans ... clearly he is favouring SOUTHFIELD THEATRE ... said it has been the plan all along ... and has STD on board...

PENDRA not declared strange really ... I would have thought this is the right race...

VYTA still available at 12s big price - will be my main bet....
Report IrisDeBalme April 24, 2017 3:48 PM BST
Also be careful if your betting on SUGAR BARON trainer said he will see later this week... didn't sound certain at all...

His fall was really bad... so probably worth waiting for decs on that one ... as I expect him to be the same price...or bigger on the day....

I backed The Young Master @ 12/1 on the Spirtsbook this morning. Tipped him up on here last year so hopefully llightning can strike twice.Cool

Had a maximum e/w bet on VDR at Cheltenham on New Years Day only for him to run like a drain - Sod's Law he'll win without the burden of my money on him.Cry

DOING FINE - took the 9.5 Sportsbook
Report betilyerded April 24, 2017 8:09 PM BST
Well. Expected a few to come out but not the exodus that has transpired so have missed all the fancy prices, particularly the 33-1 about Doing Fine Cry.

Not sure what the story is with Pendra as there was no reason given for his Aintree no show and now scratched from this race too.

I do think Vyta Du Roc is potentially very well handicapped and can be forgiven his last run having lost a shoe in a race thats worked out well. Just wonder if he wants softer ground?

The Druids Nephew is definitely a player and looks like he has been laid out for it so going to back him and Doing Fine in an Exacta!!
Report IrisDeBalme April 24, 2017 9:18 PM BST
I can't believe three horses in the market are 7/1 and 8/1 for the same stable ? Think market is false ... by Saturday I expect 2 of the 3 To be greater than 10/1... bookies being very careful at this stage ... but this is not a 3 horse race...

And doubt any of the three will be the favourite...by Saturday... if all stand there ground ....
Report IrisDeBalme April 24, 2017 9:20 PM BST
Yeah agree Berti not sure what's going on with PENDRA at all... end of jump season had only one run this season - fine second at Chelt...

Most bizarre...

Gamble on DOING FINE... interesting... clear fave in some places - I wonder why ...

Another winner for Doing Fine's trainer today. That's 3 winners from 7 races in the last 5 days.Happy
Report IrisDeBalme April 28, 2017 8:49 PM BST
Don't understand why STD was booked to ride the Nicholls 2nd string Southfield theatre... and now is a non runner - was apparently aimed at this race too

Even so wouldn't have expected STD to be aboard BENBENS... very odd indeed... especially given that he ran in scottish national over 4 m last week....

Will have to read tomorrow in his column what that is all about .... especially if Nicholls by a miracle does catch Henderson and needs the Gold Cup to snatch it... it would be real funny if STD thwarted it...with BenBens...

THE YOUNG MASTER  only 8yo, has all the hallmarks of the type to win this, not overburdened this season and can retain his prize.

SUGAR BARON - primed for scots national and didn't have race. Another type to succeed
Report Addictedtowinning April 29, 2017 7:45 AM BST
I find it very hard to rule any of these out but going for The Druids Nephew as this has probably been the long term plan and has dropped down the weights very rapidly and Whats Happening as apart from Doing Fine the only one with some potential to improve.
Report IrisDeBalme April 29, 2017 9:27 AM BST
Yeah think I got it totally wrong with Mullholland runners all will probably be vying for favouritism - think it makes it harder for punters backing his horses as difficult not to make a case for any of these... in the RP the trainer did lean towards DRUIDS ... but i been backing Fehily in Nationals and it has put me off slightly....

So Will stick to my original choices VYTA DU ROC and JUST A PAR... and just hope .... :)

Good luck.

Le Reve is overpriced here. Not exactly thrown in but he is well enough treated . At 20/1 upwards he represents e/w value.

Nah don't think ground did it not the clerk ... the amount of ground and speed he made up in last furlong suggests that was the issue.  He made few errors in the beginning and one bad mistake ... and that put him on his back foot for both jockey and horse.

Regular rider Fehily would have settled horse better tbf ... and think Mullholland really got the race wrong ... money came for him most of the week ... was favourite... you should put your best jockey on him ... instead put him on DRUIDS NEPHEW ... which really if he was the well handicapped would have given him to Scudamore who has ridden the horse before...

As for DOING FINE ran a tremendous race ... got stopped by a wall of horses in the run in... and basically did a side turn... had he gone straight would have been lightly close...

Still can't believe a horse won it from the front all the way......
Report Facts April 29, 2017 11:42 PM BST
I agree with your comments Iris
Really disappointed. I really fancied Doing Fine and was quite convinced he had the beating of these off such a light weight. Wasn't happy to see Scudamore  jocked  up. Fehily is much the better jockey - could he have done the weight though ? But it has to be said a golden opportunity missed.

On a positive note. Looking forward to the Flat Season now, and all the glorious big Handicaps Happy
Report IrisDeBalme April 30, 2017 12:21 AM BST
Actually yeah he couldn't do the weight ... remember reading that.. .

Take back some of what I said about trainer but one things certain wouldn't want Scu riding... he doesn't get horses in good rhythm... snatches his reigns a fair bit early in races ...

Yeah jump season been tough ... saturday after Saturday tough handicaps... where handful of horses had chances...

Look forward to flat
.. 1st stop EMINENT in guineas.... :)
