looks a very hot race  most of the field having run in the gold cup with gc runner up looking short at around 15/8 best on the betfair sportsbook good luck with that if ya can get more than 75p on , native river had a tough race and tizzard hasnt had a winner since last pancake day ,cue card next best took a tumble again at the 2nd last and he is not getting any younger but i would prefer him of the tizz 2 but at  3s best not for me ! djackadam track and trip could suit him better and he is a decent price at 5s but will they save him for one of the irish festivals ? empire of dirt has possibilitys but the 2 that interest me are bristol de mai and saphir du rhu both around 12s books and on here ,bristol de mai ran a stormer for one so young and would probably have been a lot closer but for a bad jump at the last and he has scope for more progress if he can improve his jumping .
saphir du rue also ran a blinder travelling well on the home turn and bang in contention he ran on well after the last to finish a good 5th ,hard to know what to expect from him but another big run could be on the cards ...........have had  smallish  tentative  bets at 12s  so far on the pair .................who knows who will turn up but small stakes wont break the bank and can always step up stakes nearer the race if  they are confirmed ........any input or veiws welcome

Pretty sure Saphir runs in National.
Not very original but id say Native River gonna be very hard to beat

i actually agree with your angling here foyleswar but can't bring myself to bet ante post the one that would interest me if it ran would be more of that as fancied him in gold cup...his breathing continues to nag me

i wouldn't be so keen to lay the flat track horse native river but the race is certainly an interesting betting heat, i would need to look at the decs before coming round to a solid opinion but an interesting betting heat all the same

SAPHIR DE RHEU might run in the national.. seems likely - s would probably avoid him until news comes out.. on Nicholls plans

thought nicholls may have went bowl with sdr but national is prob pref ,  bdm was my stronger pick of the 2 for the bowl both turned up anyway ,i put up more of that along with minella rocco for the gold cup but was a bit dissapointed with him tbh ,but it would be typical of my luck if he won this .

more of that goes for the national

Are we confusing some dodgy ante-post book with the actual entries, which haven't been made yet?

Cue Card is the clear fav at 7/4 but no Native River.

i like to look for horses at aintree who did not run at cheltenham very different track and are fresher

cue card seems very opposable to me. I know he won this last year but the price is very short for a 11 year old who tipped up last time. 5/4? thanks but no thanks.

empire of dirt is very interesting considering they didn't make much use of him last time and the step up in trip also in his favour. only slight concern is stable doesn't seem to be in great form.

Since turn of Century

Last 17 runnings
13/17 Winners ran in last 30 days
13/17 Winners last run was at Cheltenham Festival and all in Grade 1 Chase (10 Gold Cup, 2 Ryanair, 1 Champion Chase)
15/17 Aged between 7 & 10yo
15/17 Priced lower then 100% (Price/Runners)
14/17 in first 33% of market on previous run
11/17 contested the King George this season (7 won, 3 placed, 1 Unplaced)
17/19 ran between 3 & 6 times since 1st may previous year
13/17 won a race in the season
15/17 had previously ran single figure amount of hurdle races
16/17 Winners had contested at least 10 chases (not including points)

Empire of Dirt @ 5/2 is my choice, he fits most of the trends for this race, Shame he didn't run in the King George or otherwise he would've fitted a profile that has given 8 winners of the last 17 runnings and returned a +22.45pts Profit at SP.

Not that it applies to this season as all confirmed runners contested a chase at the Cheltenham festival (grade 1), but I wouldn't avoid any runners in this race who ran at Cheltenham last time out.

I have to got for Tea For Two here... question mark over every horse here... but can forgive T2T for his run lt - Aintree flat track is what he will like with the very good ground should be there or thereabouts. Surprised he has not run on this course before.

Based on his King George running he would have a good squeak and wont have much to find to get closer to Cue Card.

Cue Card would be the one to be on but the good ground is a concern.
