Almost upon us,once again,is the majic still there?

Every year it drags me back, regardless, magnetic.

Not all the warriors will be there, step back from our own indulgence, there is only one real star, long may they reign.

Ground still to be decided, the infamous going stick of 2016,must have been replaced with a loaded harpoon,

just another reason to be mindful of any going reports this far out.

Different feel to the last few years, plenty of the graded races appear very open, the beloved handicaps daunting as ever.

With the 5 day decs upon us,the sifting can begin, slowly at first, gently, resting a little, mulling over those greedy thoughts of the ultimate dough.

Just the one poke pre decs......Taglietelle from the elliot yard

Dropped to 145,he was just touched off last year in the pertemps, festival form bears the closet of inspection, doubly entered.

Plenty of stats, formbook and just a little banter, these 4 days can be a minefield on your own.

Aftertiming pre 2000 is allowed, anything after that yesterdays news.

ALL contributions welcomed and encouraged.

Now.......back to the supreme Cry

Looking forward to it noc...
Sadly for me, my work has sprung a surprise on me, going to be working first two daysCry The first time in around 15years.

Will post some thoughts over the weekend, Taglietelle most interesting...

Aternoon GI.....terrible news,gutted for you,tribunal required.

Playing catch up here too, hoping decs will shed some light, plenty with multiple entries.

Weekend will be same here, mates off to plumpton monday, had to decline invite,he knows whyGrin.

I'm working Tues & Weds but off Thurs Friday.

I am either going to be very broke after the week or short-term rich, as I fancy 6 horse lots.

Yanworth
Western Ryder
Empire of Dirt
Lets Dance
Disko
Djakadam

I have backed all these ante-post (posted on the other thread) in singles and some multiples.

Not looked at any handicaps yet.

The weakest favourites out of the lot look like Mite Bite and Native River. MB is very unreliable jumping wise and NR has effectively won two handicaps and is favourite for the GC. His Newbury win cannot be taken literally at all.

Good stuff Noc, hopefully I'll be able to contribute on a regular basis to the thread, I'm at the mercy of this site though Plain.......this my 4th attempt to post this.

Good luck Penzance with Midnight Jazz, I'm on 140's to 260's, and hoping for a decent run for my money.

Penzance / Fab .....jeez,now thats  working mans odds, see still entered in the m pipe, hope she runs for you in

intended race, nice wagers to be sat on.

Sint....Yanworth does strike me as the solid one, think I will be waiting to see times first few races, leaning

toward petite mouchoir, not on soft ground though, promises to be a cracker.

Will keep an eye on the rest, looks strong group there, best of luck.

Really struggling for time due to family commitments, the earpieces and blinkers are being applied as we speakMischief

No taglietelle in coral,m pipe or nothing, come on gordon...you know it makes sense.

On to the handicaps

Been using GAULTSTATS for a number of years, tremendous effort every year, donations go to a great cause, its

something that takes a couple of minutes, seems right.

Ultima....3m 1f...day 1

Age 7-10 39/42
7/9 OR between 142-148
13/16 novices / 2nd season chasers
festival form +
ran within 45 days
21/25 1st or 2nd that season
19/22 won over 3m or above

Plans yet to be finalised,TDS holding down the weights as we speak.

If theres a better handicapped horse than HOLYWELL.....struggling to find it.

Tremendous festival record, ideally best with a little cut, comes alive here.

Novices have a fine recent record, having no doubt kept a little ability back for this race.

One of the established handicaps........ultra competitive....how it should be.
Report GI MAC March 11, 2017 10:50 AM GMT
^ Got to be on everyone's shortlist noc.

Been looking at Pertempts this morning, I like to find one that's been there and done it before, but kinda of struggling on that score, mostly up and coming types dominating, my shortlist:

El Bandit / Golden Doyen / Arctic Gold / For Good Measure / Dadsintrouble / Ruacana / Ileofhopendreams

Ruacana intrigues me on his mark compared to last years renewal, I'm thinking he has been campaigned to get this down by his new trainer. Decent when trained by Ferguson, but I never rated his jockey Mr A Ferguson who was on board for most of last season. Well see, 40/1.
Report nocturnal March 11, 2017 11:21 AM GMT
Morning GI......not looked at this yet, quick look at recent renewals is not pretty viewing this end.

I see your back with them long looking shortlists...Laugh....nature of the beast.

This is one for the bragging rights.....tough as they come.....get back laters.

Day 1 Novice Handicap 2m 4f

0-140...a handicap in name only!
ran within 60 days
course form +
10/12 beaten first 2 chases
10/12 1st/2nd last start
9/12 1st 4 all completed chases
Irish trained 1/30

Historically little to go on.....like the look of Potters Legend early doors, need decs
Report GI MAC March 11, 2017 1:58 PM GMT
Shortlists are the business noc Tongue Out ......get rid of the trash......

I'll be giving the nvc hcp a miss this year as I'm not going to be around, woeful record in it anyway.
Report SOULDANCER March 11, 2017 6:13 PM GMT
IMPULSIVE STAR looks good for Pertempts, don't think he will be 10's on day. ROUGHLANDER 2nd to IMP. last time worth an e.w with the pull in the weights. TOBEFAIR has almost single handedly saved my season but around 7-1 looks awful short.
Report Facts March 11, 2017 9:50 PM GMT
Can't wait for final decs.of the successive days Handicaps.. Will keep my powder dry until then.
Report nocturnal March 12, 2017 3:39 PM GMT
Souldancer.....one of the few qualifiers I did watch, the 4th/5th home that day were eyecatchers for me,both
ridden for top 6 placing.

As ever its whether I Star and Tobefair have shown their hand too early,or still have bags improvement left.

Quite strong stats age/weight here,Barney Dwan looks interesting, but 11-8 looks tough.

Will hold fire until day of race, headgear and claims can change things overnight, could be a stone only top to bottom.

Facts....with you here, virtually impossible without decs, plenty trainers playing the entry game, looking for the best opportunity for said beast, all part of the jigsaw.

Stick some stats up later in the week, gone close but annoyingly no recent winner in this Sad
Report GI MAC March 12, 2017 6:27 PM GMT

Report SOULDANCER March 13, 2017 10:45 AM GMT
Noc... Impulsive Star entitled to improve after only 6 runs and looked to have plenty more to come when beating Rocklander (correct spelling this time). Can't see him out of first 4 and pinning a lot on this one.

SOUL....He does look progressive, ground may be an issue for many of these,Hendo was saying the new course was a lot quicker than old,and might need watering.

Fair play though, got to stick to your guns here, good luck with him.

GI...He,s got a squeak, watched his last couple earlier, fine jumper, should get his ground, jockey a worry re course knowledge, think he will go well.

Well......the talking is over, colours nailed to the mast.

Supreme.....always maintained hardest race of the whole week, coming together of novice form, can set the tone for races later in the week.
River Wylde and Elgin ew the pin has dropped on.

Ultima.....Holywell and The Young Master, both have good course form.

Champion Hurdle.....Petite Mouchoir looks a real trier, should be up there early, still unexposed.

NH Chase.....Kerrow / Tiger Roll, the former trained by a yard won two recent renewals.

Close Brothers......Captain Redbeard makes appeal, may add another once times indicate what we are racing on.

Gently gently day 1,best of luck to all.

Day 1 Update

Not disastrous, most running ok,holywell was the big let down, beaten after 2 fences,he was well handicapped with the winner on last years race.

Take out the first winner, the other 6 had all run well at a previous festival, time and again it happens.

Having got the ground completely wrong 2 of the last 3 yrs, simple looked to have called it correct for day 1.

On to day 2

The supreme result casts a shadow over our novice form,a worry for the rest of the meeting.Honours about even
I would say.

Thought some of the Irish marks given out may have been lenient, day 2 will tell us more, reckon they might have
an even better day tomorrow.

As competitive as ever,it does not look any easier day 2,the good news is that every winner is there somewhere, just the small matter of finding the beasts.

Onwards Wink

Day 2

Neptune.....jolly looks very short on what he has achieved, gone with shattered love who gets 7lb allowance.

RSA....graveyard for jollies,o o seven and marinero, already been over these fences, jumping will be key here.

Coral.....drying ground,no surprise were there big price winner here, gone with 3,allblak des place,

river frost,automated.

X Country....Auvergnat and Usuel Smurfer who is handicapped to run a decent race.

F Winter.....tough as they come, diable de sivola overpriced 33/1,canny trainer, dino velvet and dreamcatching

both look interesting, diable ran well behind defi d s over cd,worry is the irish novice form looks strong.

Another tricky day,no real standout bet for me,ground drying out fast looking at the sun/wind on course,

tremendous racing to look forward to,gl to all playing.

Day 2 Update

Pretty poor day, nothing really contended, couple of fallers along the way.D D Sivola finnished well into 5th at 33/1,only problem being his other one romped in at 33/1.

On to the new course day 3,could  be genuine good ground, stamina required for that long uphill finnish.

Not easy Uncle.....only half time though, like the look of the falcon Wink

Agreed Facts......safety is paramount,Henderson walked it sunday and said the new course was much firmer, why would you wait until the night before, with no rain forecast?

Possibility now of ground loose on top, firm underneath, could that not be more dangerous?

Day 3

Where it does not get any easier!

JLT....small field but tricky,Yorkhill to me is priced up on hurdle form, not chasing, jumping will be key, politilogue looks a natural chaser,if he can put in a good round, hard to beat.

PERTEMPS......as mentioned previously, not a lucky race in recent years.Quite happily back 10,and still not hit the frame, compressed handicap, tough as they come.

Alzammaar....scraped in northern qualifier, form with fred winter 3rd reads well, age on his side.

Electric Concorde.... won irish qualifier, thought he could improve on better ground.

Fingal Bay..... now 11 but very lightly raced, spring horse, the claim gives him a sporting chance, looked huge in qualifier,if hobbs has him on song,he could surprise.

STAYERS.....jolly looks solid, but beatable.Snow Falcon looks to me like he needs good ground, lovely traveller,a fast run race just might allow him to creep into it.

RYANAIR......again small but select field,Sub Lieutenant my choice on ground he should relish.
Report GI MAC March 16, 2017 12:50 PM GMT

all jockeys in the JLT should be shot for gifting Ruby the race, dawdle all the way round letting Yorkhill settle and hop over the fences, Jacobs on Top Notch should have kicked on at some point, instead of p00fing around coming to the second last fence, garbage...
