Lets face it - with the likes of Faugheen and Annie Power out of the CH makes this one of the most open renewals... MOOR RACER very lightly raced horse has had his problems but is a class act on his day when winning the Champion Bumper with some good horses behind including YANWORTH.
His next progression would have been the Supreme but he was injured... a season later is on the top end of the market in the Supreme... I think the likelihood of getting beat there to a less exposed rival is high - as there are always something with younger legs to get better of an older rival.
Just to put it in to perspective Supreme first prize money is 77k - Champion Hurdle - £227k 1st, £85k 2nd etc. Next year he will be 9 years old - doubt he will win a Champion Hurdle that age and maybe this year is his best chance. For me its a no brainer - it must be the Champion Hurdle now.
I personally think it will happen, it's the Pipes, they have no issues putting novices in championship races. He was very bullish about this option in the Weekender stable tour last week.

Moon Racer played up pretty badly during the preliminaries last time out and I thought he would have left his race in the parade ring. He still won comfortably and assuming he has calmed down a bit I reckon his better than what his actually shown so far. If he were mine, I would go for the Champion

But guess that's the point- form line with both Ballyandy and Yanworth - gives connections the option.... whether he wins or doesn't it's irrelevant- but on form has just as good chance as any other... CH without FAUGHEEN and Annie Power makes the race more appealing given the stature of the race...
Will be interesting if connections can take leap of faith....

The supreme form is this season, the CH form is a bumper 2 seasons ago. He must have a better chance in the Supreme its a weaker race. At the same time he may hot have a better chance of winning the CH.
Interesting indeed !!

Can see why the pipe team are thinking Champion, age, fragility. But hope he goes for the supreme myself, solid claims in that for me, would not fancy him in the Champion.

The Pipes are pioneers... And I think it will run in (and win) both!
Its not the first time that a horse has run twice at the Festival. Just never 2 races on the same day :-)
But seriously... I think Moon Racer is the real deal - and I also hear that Twiston-Davies has Ballyandy in very high regard and was astonished that MR beat Ballyandy in his first 2 races this season.
I've done a variety of small stakes/NRNB ante-post multiple bets which include Ballyandy in the Supreme and Moon Racer in the Champ Hurdle.
Roll on Tuesday!

He just has to show he has progressed from bumper form really won that in 3m 50secs, Faugheen won CH in same time... Annie Power 5 secs faster...
based on the clock does have a chance?

Nigel holds all of his horses in high regard. He's always "bullish"
People go on about yanworth not being a great jumper but he's battle-hardened whereas moon racer is very inexperienced over hurdles, and hasn't run for quite some time.
tough to win a champion hurdle off only two runs over hurdles and as a novice, whatever your ability level. Alderbrook did something similar but he was a real physical freak, don't think moon racer is in that league.

I'm a big fan of both Ballyandy and Moon Racer - and backed them in ante-post doubles and other multiples for the Supreme and Champion respectively - so am really rather pleased how its panning out.
I think (and hope) that they could be a pair of really outstanding talents.
Pipe's have always talked of Moon Racer in glowing terms - and Nigel T-D and his team REALLY like Ballyandy and were apparently astonished when Moon Racer beat Ballyandy twice this season before his Betfair Hurdle romp.
If Ballyandy does the business in the Supreme, Moon Racer's odds will surely shorten a good bit in what we all know is a depleted field for the Champion, so I should be in a position to cash out a good bit and still have plenty riding forward on Moon Racer.

Its a big negative the fact he has not run since xmas - thought they would have pencilled a run somewhere... but the fact they have decided to run here does suggest the horse must be showing something in the gallops otherwise the Supreme would have been the choice. But having said that there should be no excuses for connections, think conditions are ideal with the drying ground... I also agree with BallyAndy so have also done the double.

Not sure what to make about Yanworth was disappointing, Moon racer pulling up did suggest that not having a run in him may have been his undoing... and Buveur D'air was not supposed to act on the ground... either
With no Faugheen or Annie Power - this division is seriously messed up... I hope Buveur D'air proves to be a worthy champion... but what Ive seen in the Supreme not many of those horses look like future Champion Hurdlers... interesting to see what Triumph unfolds
