Hard to know what is going to run but Donncha was 2nd in thr consolation race last year and has been threatening to win a decent mile handicap for ages.

quite surprised how short ballet concerto is for this...he has looked a backward type to me and this looks to much to soon, just an opinion as am following the horses progress, other races down the line interest me more, so will be interesting to see if he were to run here, as this will confuse me a tad considering his slow progress thus far

It is certainly comforting to read Martyn Meade’s comments today, although nail-bitingly so considering he still needs a further 3 to pull out.
"Chelsea Lad is hopefully going for the Lincoln. He had a knee problem last year, which is why he hasn't run for a while, but he seems to have progressed well," said Meade. "He's rated 96 and he could potentially be thrown in off that mark."

Again there are still reasons to be optimistic looking at others that remain above him.
Zhui Feng is also entered in the 10f Listed Magnolia stakes at Kempton the same day; ran his best race last-time-out on the AW at Lingfield in the G3 Winter Derby over a 10f; beat Marsha at Kempton over 6f as a 2yo, and Amanda Perrett has five other horses entered at Kempton on Saturday, her best track for winners but no others at Doncaster where the stable is 0/6 in the last five years, and after all it is kin 200 miles/4 hours away from Pulborough.
As regards to Ballet Concerto, he has got farther than Munaaser, a recent Freemason Lodge possible runner for whom in the end was not ready in time even at this entry stage, and has more chance of making the final line-up than Lang Shining all those years ago, but there has been no news or any signs of stable confidence behind the horse as yet.

Funnily enough I have found in the past it is only a matter of 20 minutes after the Confirmation Of Entry Stage that a couple of bookies price up the declared runners on Odds checker. SJ and B365 are usually on the case quickest.

I wrote about this when the Henderson mare was pulled out of the Cheltenham Bumper on the 11 th hour with a 'minor setback'. What sort of an excuse is that. There is something rotten in the state of Ante-Post. Let me tell you a story about our local bread company.
I was worried about the amount of returns that they were getting each day from the local shops. I questioned 'the bread man' and asked him about this. Is it effecting your profits, I enquired. He smiled at my innocence and then declared,.......stale bread is worth more than fresh bread. (apparently for stuffing,etc)
Let's talk bread here. That Varian/Henderson horse is worth more to some people standing in his box next Saturday than he would be if leading at the furlong pole. Minor setback is some sort of joke and it echoes Henderson's word that still gall me. I suppose the usual 'killing' was made by those in the know. It is absoulte BS.

This sort of thing does seem to happen far too often. Disappointed Sacred Act & Ballet Concerto didn't get in. Assuming both balloted out so refunded on those.
Horses get injured, connections change their minds etc.. Ante-post is an option for a punter. If you don't like it don't play. The first furlong is getting to the race. People ignore that or feel it unfair if the horse doesn't make it. It happens. It's part of your ante-post race.
Morando out is unfortunate for Morando backers, but a great result for backers of others. But there's still two days to go.

There needs to be an early warning system on this, when was the horse injured, who knew, what did they do, and when did they do it. When was betfair informed, what did they do...................would you play on a roulette wheel that was ****. We are talking about the 5/1 fav here. All I request is clarity and process. Actually - if you read Varian's comments on Monday in the RP - it was very odd... cant recall the exact content - but there was a slight hint / suggestion that he'd might not run...
I thought it was a bit odd.. but when they starting to cut the price on Morando - just dismissed it...

The point is that the current system allows for a time lapse that accomadates a variant(pun) of insider trading on horses that some people know 'cannot win'. Unless we stand up against this as punters it will be your turn to get shafted next time. We should in our own long term interest avoid en mass anything to do with ante-post horse-racing. It is corrupt and fraudulent in its current format.IMHO.

There was no evidence to suggest there was any inside trading here. The horse shortened all week which wouldn't be the case if there was anything suspicious happening of any significance.

Imagine a scenario where, for example a Faugheen or an Annie Power is getting veterinary injections while simultaneously being 2/5 for the following Saturday's big race. What could you do with that information, as a bookie, a trainer, a jockey, a stable lad or a punter with 'good connections. Should that horse be in an ante-post market. Do you get those calls from India about your computer being riddled with virus. Stop championing the indefensible.

Bad luck with Chelsea Lad Madhu, but at least we got our stakes back - wonder why they decided not to go for the consolation race (weight, prize money?).

FWIW I'm on him too, my second ante-post bet of 2017. I wouldn't be having him in the current market though.
Regarding Chelsea Lad and the consolation race it happens every year. Less money, more weight to carry and it's a less prestigious race. Fahey was on earlier saying the consolation race is almost the tougher race of the two.

Chelsea Lad acts on any ground, so I would guess ultimately all roads lead to the Royal Hunt Cup.

b) insiders get to understand grey cloud on horse
3) betting shorten odds... to bring attention to the horse
4) Punters open oddschecker and see blue.. and back
5) gathers pace - suddenly horse in peoples attention
6) horse not declared money in bookies sactchells
So many times RP seems to profile horses in there headlines that dont turn up on the day is amazing... sometimes they can even report it on the morning of the race for it not to be declared later in the 48hr decs...
Id love to see flow / patterns of money coming through the bookies account ... or calculated mind games on punters... and pinching easy money...
I may sound cynical... happens too many times for comfort... cos its so unregulated.

I didn't actually realise you could declare for the Lincoln but opt out of the Consolation - glad they did though.

To be fair I did the Lincoln winner in last year thread at 25/1 so maybe lightning can strike twice - come on Jamie.
It is my experience that a horse stables is like a pub. It is rare for the landlord to drink or for the trainer to gamble. Everyone else does that for them. The Lincoln is on April Fool's Day and that is all she wrote.

generally been ridden by Atzeni, Kirby and Marquand... over the years...
So Spencer on him... not sure... Spencer likes to hold off and come from the back (glad there is no bend).. not sure that will suit Donncha... the fact that he has never ridden him before... does concern me a bit... as to whether they're try something different (running tactics) with the horse?

Recently Robert Eddery was sweet on Jamie Spencer riding Donncha for the first time in Saturday’s Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster.
“Jamie Spencer rides,” Eddery said. “He’s a hold-up horse that likes to come through horses so we’re hoping Jamie might be the perfect fit. He’s brilliant on this sort of horse.”
“Before he ran in the consolation race last year he was working really well and he’s in the same form this year,” he said. “He ran a cracker in that so I’m hoping for the same. He looks really fit and well, he goes well fresh and he goes on any ground so I’d say he’d have an excellent chance. “We’ll just see where he’s drawn now, but we’re looking forward to it.”
The problem Donncha will have is the same as last year with him being drawn in stall 22. With the field likely to be coming down the middle in an arrow head he does not want to find himself held-up on the end of the wing on the stands side like last year in the Spring Mile, even given Secret Brief won the Lincoln from a similar position before half way.

There's not much pace in those stalls beside him so it may not be that easy. If they don't have the same headwind that's present today and forecast for tomorrow I'd probably prefer him to get prominent, but sure we'll see how he goes.

but of the runs I have seen - he is slightly off the pace, mid region.. but not in the context of hold up from the back... for me it depends on how much they hold him back and when they unleash him
so yeah if trainer says he is hold up then i wont disagree with that :) - I actually think he was mighty unlucky last year to lose... I dont think jockey did anything wrong... based on last seasons runs kept getting touched off - which does say something... he was always there or thereabouts but no cigar...

As there was nothing on T.V. last night I spent a couple of hours on the Lincoln and came to the ( probably wrong ) conclusion that if there is one horse that is well handicapped it is Bravery and seeing as how first time out is probably the time to catch them when they switch to this stable that is the way I am going. I am also stunned that some people are surprised that trainers do not appear to have the punters best interest at heart - if only more of them were more caring like that lovely Sir Michael Stoute.

So interesting when you bought this to our attention Madhu was 40s when you first posted... I too like Fahey runners but because he has so many difficult to throw the right dart like when he had the two GABRIEL runners and second string won... but DV a front-running horse who loves softer conditions... who has been gelded in the winter... and Fahey seems confident on his chances in the RP.. and has Hanagan aboard..

Donncha drifting out as a I thought he would. No issues there, just a false price. Something like Dolphin Vista, Top Notch or Oh This Is Us will probably shorten. The favourite will probably shorten as the each way thieves get on.

Not an easy course to make all over a mile but I don’t think Dolphin Vista is an out and out front runner, I think Zhui Feng fit from a career-best performance over 10f (up 5lb in the future) on the AW a couple of stalls away will want to make it more of a test. Cannot see anything else as a pace angle. Would think he will be around 10’s tomorrow, if not shorter were it to rain heavily enough to make it softer.
Because Chelsea Lad was balloted out I added Master Carpenter, off 99 with Lulu Stanford's 5lb claim he might be thrown-in.

This creature of mine likes soft and surely on last years form at Ascot it has the beating of the once legendry Morando and the new 'must have'Yuften which is drawn beside it. My nag has never won a race first time after a break in its life but at an age which is the human equivalent of 27 it just might decide to surf on the Balding Bandwagon. 2 Quid and alot of fun to boot, Good luck to all.

When I first looked at this was put off Dolphin Vista cos he hadn't run in any big field h'caps and he looked like he needed things his own way. Didn't notice he'd been gelded till a couple of days ago, so that may be a plus. Nice to see Racing Post giving notification of horses gelded now. About time.
THIRD TIME LUCKY 16-1 betf, e.w. 4lb, 5lb higher than when 4th, 5th in Balmoral, Cambridgeshire last year. Pinning my hopes Doncaster maybe a better fit. Usually like high draw in this but apparently low is where the pace is. Not convinced that means anything if the faster ground is on the other side.
Could back a dozen in here and not get one in the first four.However, got to have a go and have backed Dream Walker,Top Notch Tonto and Zhui Feng each way five places.
High numbers drifted a touch after the Spring Mile. First six all came from the far side group.
To be fair the winner was drawn in 20 - not sure how he got right over to the far rail!

It's not the first race that team have won 'before the race'. Danny mentioned in his interview that they were talking about it beforehand and he was told get to the far side if you can. They always seem to be on the ball regarding draws etc..

It was a great piece of riding and shrewd of connections to instruct him to do that. I'm just disappointed Ballet Concerto missed out on the race by 1. Still backed him today & won a decent amount but would have been double having backed him at 16-1 to win the Lincoln. His time was marginally faster & he had 9-9 on his back. Would have been carrying, what, 12lbs less in the Lincoln?

Actually when you look at the fact that OMeara has an ex ballydoyle horse - who ran in the irish guineas beggars belief that piece of info kept missing me despite ... being pointed out by a few... even in the RP today they earmarked it... should have been a obvious class edge... so many run of the mill handicappers... it was the new kids on the block that dominated here...
How amazing was Ryan Moore today ? certainly by far the best jockey around - had he pulled that win.. would have probably helped a lot of the mire... and had the bookies on re-doing there P&L...

I looked at it but thought Aiden O'Brien running it over 1m 4f how can O'Meara win with it at a mile. Did consider they might be mates though.
