Obvious start here is DYNASTE - once class horse appearing in the veterans race ... currently 8's is value but does disappoint when you think he will win... I backed him as soon as I saw Tom jockey to ride. Think he has an outstanding chance and will probably be 4/1 on the day.

I do like ASTRACAD though as my main bet at 20/1 - Sam Twiston riding for his dad.... this horse runs his heart out and won the Veterans race at Cheltenham more recently. Think he is on a good mark - expect it to be be a small field which will suit this horse - doesn't run at Sandiwn often but track will suit this horse.

Will start with these two.

Good Luck.

Why would you expect it to be a small field, Iris?  Total target race for pretty much all of these horses so would expect a massive conversion rate from entry to dec.  Looking at 14 runners plus as a minimum I'd say.

I like Gas Line Boy  at 8/1. But will wait for NRNB, as I'm not confident of his participation at this stage.

At the weights a good case can be made for Pete The Feat. Risky though.

I can see the appeal in Dynaste, but that last Kelso run was appalling and I couldn't touch him after that. Looks gone to me, but the handicapper has certainly given him a chance.

I also think it's likely to be a big field so don't see any point in an AP bet, but as it stands the 2 I'm interested in are Rocky Creek who beat an in form rival last time and the 3rd won on Monday also & Cloudy Too but only if the heavens open which looks doubtful.

Looks a great race. I actually think there could be 16+ runners as there is great prize money for these veterans.

Astracad won't stay 3 miles and can see it being pulled up.

If the rain on Friday night arrives the one I like is Theatrical Star. had a good prep run over hurdles last time out.

Loose Chips appeals to me. Jumped and travelled really well in Rocky Creeks race last time out and this drop back in trip should be Ideal
Likes the course and I can see him running a big race from somewhere near the front. Agree with dunlaying about Longsdon's other runner
Pete the Fete. Interested to see if he runs them both, as both have front running styles

Some bookies will offer 5 or 6 places EW come Saturday.  Worth waiting.

Interesting - 19 runners - I guess I got that wrong !

Makes this race more interesting .... and better value....

Definitely worth waiting on the day - think ap players like myself didnt get no value going in early....

The 60 odd grand to the winner is either a multiple or a decent percentage of their career earnings (Dynaste excepted ) , so you would expect all to be seriously prepared . What seems certain is that there will be enough rain on Friday night to make it testing , have gone for a couple of rags , Benny's Mist and Wychwood Brook .

Through gritted teeth I am not backing Dynaste, instead I have backed Aerial and Rocky Creek each way five places.

big drift on Astracad - guess its the softer conditions... annoying!

Looking at the race itself outside Dynaste - you have a bunch of good handicappers of at least 6/7 have a chance to win this... for me it makes it more sense to go for one horse who should have class edge, trainer said he is hopeful not confident, but I think DYNASTE on this mark should be exceptionally hard to beat and better value than backing 6/7 other horses who could win - but you have to close your eyes and drop a pin and hope...

Think class is the way forward here.

Good Luck all.

brutal race to fathom and i've certainly put the effort in...

i like gas line boy but just feel the 9lbs for his romp at kelso is going to be tough on him considering this is even more competitive and he is unlikely to have it easy on the gas like he got there, the longsdon brigade are likely to hound him all the way

rocky creek got the better of doing fine last time and just got the 4lbs for that, he also likes to race prominently so expect this to be a war of attrition with wychwoods brook and maybe even cloudy too whose best form is when on the front end so i just feel we need a deep closer here

dynaste is the blot on the handicap but is a french bred on the down grade, so it has to be taken on trust he will show more than he has shown for a long time and 5/1 makes zero appeal to me however the money is talking so clearly a lot more is expected

i can see ericht cruising on the snaff in behind here and he may just outrun his odds before chucking it in like he always hasGrin

theatrical star has fallen to a lovely mark and can see him placing although his jumping and want to race in snatches tempers enthusiasm for me although i do see the angle

anyway i like the way aerial is going and the ground/track and trip look ideal for him, he should get a lovely tow into the race from the likely pace that is going to be applied, cloudy too is a horse who shouldn't be underestimated in my book and it should be a decent battle between the 2Laugh
