I think it is more about the distance he'd be campaigned over eg JLT or RSA, possibly prepping for a tilt at the Gold Cup in 2018 or 2019; I just cannot see him in the World Hurdle at any year given the ammunition connections have at their disposal.

I've no idea. But the fact he's still entered in the Hattons Grace suggests they haven't decided whether he stays Hurdling or goes Chasing yet. Suppose much depends on Annie Power and Faugheen and their well being. He could certainly be a CH contender.

If Annie Power and Faugheen are ruled out for the Champion Hurdle and Yorkhill and Vroum Vroum deputise I'd not be surprised if Hendo and connection reroute Altior there as well; I cannot have Yorkhill over 2m against Altior regardless of discipline.

This is what Hendo said about Altior before Altior's debut over fences.
Hendo: "He is a very talented horse. We had a long summer thinking about the Champion Hurdle and I have no doubt he'd be a contender, but he's six now so we felt if he doesn't go chasing now, he never will. I think we have got to go down this road (fences), if it did not go right we can switch back, and I'd be fairly relaxed if that was the case."
If Faugheen and Annie Power are scratched, the Champion Hurdle is wide open, and Altior would most likely be 'fav' with most bookies - as short as 10/1 with some at the moment.
If I was the owner and the above scenario presented itself I'd, without hesitation, reroute Altior to the Champion Hurdle and back to chases after. And it makes sense!
