I thought Born Survivor would be shorter. Any word if he skips race or something?

Have him backed along with Kruzhlinin. Westren Warrior also interesting

16 ran in it last year, anyone know the number of runners allowed this year.

I instinctively backed Two Taffs after I saw your post Facts, and the with the added value Skeltons won the big hurdle on Sunday  - managed to get 8's.

Having said that I do get a bit nervous as he has another runner Born Survivor 12/1... you did see how many runners he started with in the Greatwood Hurdle and how many he ended up with?

But quite happy to side with him in this race.

So bet on CAID DE BERLAIS 9/1 instead - been bitten by this horse when he didn't turn up in the BetVictor Gold Cup - think he is well handicapped with a claimer on board has a serious good chance.

Albeit Nicholls hasn't won a big Saturday handicap yet - bit tentative with my selection - but surely based on last season form should have a shout in a race like this?

As it stands at the minute, the one i like is another Nicholls horse.  Mr Mix  can see it coming on for the Chepstow run and going close. 12's looks fair.

Anyone know if AFFAIR DHONNEUR turning up see him cut from 25's (but still available) - had a favourable mention in the Weekender this morning, he is on 10st-1, came 4th in Betfair hurdle 4lbs higher...

Not sure he will make the cut - but if he does surely he is value under that weight?

MR MIX for me, was starting to stay on in the martin pipe when coming down and ran a really promising race in the silver trophy first run back, the key is the extra distance which he is crying out for and that big long straight.

Anyone remember this horse in the betfair hurdle at Newbury last year, racingpost comments say....

Behind, headway on inside 3 out, stayed on well closing stages, never nearer.

Try this, horse standing sideways when starter let them go, lost about 10L, jockey took forever to put him in the race, finally storming home two out, the jockey thinks to himself, Can't wait for the brush hurdle at Haydock next year, I hope it's soft or heavy

Another Affaire d'Honneur backer signing in. Just taken the 14/1. Think this will be a real war of attrition and that should suit him. He's very well in with Two Taffs on their run at Kempton last Christmas, and although I think he might not have the class to quite win this, and the trainers early season form worries me a bit, I think he's a very solid ew bet off this mark in these conditions.

to be fair from 12s to 4s is pretty good value - so win win from ante-post perspective...

But as you rightly say - they still have to win... that's the frustrating bit...

But actually looks fiercely competitive...

Anyway, my main bet is AFFAIR DHONNEUR 14s now - Havent been doing well since start of jumps (for ante-post) - hoping this will change fortunes.

yeah remember now how frustrating that race was - I backed him then to win... and came up short... because he was left 10 lengths behind... trainer did have him primed for that run - but things went dreadfully bad from the start.  His 4th place looks even better now.

On the same racing weight - hope redemption comes round for him...

I like the chance of Ballybolley, certainly fit after his recent runs over fences, 8lb lower taking into account  Bargarys claim, he's riding well and hurdles may suit better.
3 out of the top 4 in the handicap haven't had a run this season and Two Taffs didn't impress me at Carlisle, Caid du Berlais is a danger but may be a bridle horse, just a little concerned the ground may be too soft but at 16/1 it's a risk worth taking.

I'll put up Theo's Charm, currently 14.5 on here. Nicely weighted on form against Two Taffs, I particularly liked the way he splashed through Plumpton ground that looked similar to Haydock today, to win by a distance. His form tailed off at the end of last season but his trainer was going through a desperate spell. Considered good enough to run in the Festival bumper (seventh to Moon Racer beaten nine and a quarter lengths) he wears first time cheek pieces and Wayne Hutchinson has been booked.

Because of the prevailing ground ( and a very astute trainer), I've been tempted to add Westren Warrior ( 8/1 BOG) to be my second bet in this race.

Just occasionally you see a really competitive handicap at the early entry stage,,and just the one horse stands out,whatever the reason,for me its rare.


From the cheltenham pertemps qualifier oct 22nd,there were at least 4 horses who finnished in the ruck,who ran much better than the bare form suggests.

Anteros bolted up last week,but the horse who travelled just as well,Westren Warrior, goes tomorrow in this race, with conditions that look ideal.

All his best form screams out he wants soft ground and a test of stamina,both of which he will get tomorrow.The jockey tried his upmost to keep him out of the frame at HQ,choosing the worst of the ground on the far side,up the home straight.

Like all things in racing there has to be a negative,the booking of Emlyn can temper the most enthusiastic of punters,he,s the **** of the north for a reason,if he can resist the showboating til after the line,that should be good enough.

The two down the bottom with first time headgear are interesting,this will be a real stamina test,both have nice racing weights.

Yep, I clocked the Anteros form line too, noc - Westren Warrior was 6th - think they still have that rule where you have to finish in the first six in the Pertemps qualifier to qualify for the final?

Stable is in good form too, he'll be my bet in this.

Noc, just watched back the Cheltenham video of Westren Warriors Pertemps run, he wasn't put in the race, and wasn't beaten far. He loves soft ground, so if he takes to the baby jumps he could be a big player.

That was my understanding RH,first 6 home to qualify,joke really.

If racing had any pretentions to encourage trainers,this series of qualifiers could be the ideal starting point,
as it stands you can run your horse down the pan,and even out the frame,they can easily qualify.

Racing remains stagnant to many,here is a chance to offer a bonus to qualifier winners,make it first 3 home to qualify,cut the penalty for qualifiers in the final,automatic entry to cheltenham should you win a qualifier.

At present the races are a means to an end,just a thought.

Young progressive types have been winning this in recent years, but this will be the first renewal ran on heavy ground for a good number of years; which invariably throws up surpriing results. Based on this I've sided with Rathpatrick at a price, suited by todays conditions.

Two Taffs wasn't much better tbh

The going found out a lot of horses at Haydock. Older horses tend to handle heavy better than young ones and Kruzhlinin and Cue Card reinforced that view. Ch'tibello very impressive though for a less experienced horse.
