Much trickier renewal - edging towards Nicholls horses so for me last years winnerJUST A PAR is worth a shout at 20's although a bit more weight this time...

Quite like the look of Bowen's atm

Im with you Uncle. Managed to get the last of the 14's this morning. Think it has a knocking chance as staying looks its game. Pity SWC rides.
Also think Shuill Royale is a great e/w bet at 50-1 but has next to no chance of getting a run. |
|
By:
Im assuming Paul Kealey in the weekender has tipped it up too as its now best price 10-1.

I have had a token bet on O'Faolains Boy because he is so well handicapped . But a better value prospect could be Rocky Creek. Since he bolted up at Kempton he has had half a dozen outings, three over the Aintree fences , one where he took the scenic route and was set to give lumps of weight to a very well handicapped Theatre Guide, one on atrocious ground at Newbury where the winner was backed with some confidence and a decent second to Don Cossack. The last four runs while the stable did not appear to be firing on all cylinders. If he runs here the 40/1 might be a bargain buy.

agree Dun Rocky could be a cracking bet at the prices

Why no 48 hr decs. ?

^ don't know the answer but was thinking the same.
Will have to wait now but Hadrian's Approach very much of interest on decent ground - maybe Sub Lieutenant too, bowled along nicely for a long way in Irish National - though for all the world he appeared not to stay, his pedigree hints that he may see out the trip on better ground (although that could be me manufacturing a case) - will have a think about it. |

was in lads today looking at ap on small screen and astonished to see golden chieftan in the betting, pointed it out to the cashier and was laughed at.
ignorant f **ker . |

SOUTHFIELD THEATRE, win. Dropped 4lb before Chelt. where he was brought down, still early but was travelling well and thought he was being ridden confidently there.
LE REVE, e.w. loves Sandown, 3rd last year. Surprised he wasn't kept for this but as long as National hasn't left it's mark should at least place. |
|
By:
Measureofmydreams Disappointing that he didn't get far in last weeks SGN. Fancy he'll do much better this time.
14/1 BOG is a good price. |
|
By:
Dynaste will appreciate the extra 4F and good ground will suit him. 33\1 on betfair and Skybet with 5 places. Has been disappointing but to be fair was up against Cue card etc. Think he is the forgotten horse but will come good tomorrow as everything suits him.
|
|
By:
Measureofmydreams for me too. The form of that Cheltenham 4 miler looks really strong with Vicente and Native River both franking the form. Even the stragglers have franked the form with definitely red winning since and Viva Steve going very close.

Tough race, nothing stands out handicap wise.
Two at the prices,JUST A PAR and LE REVE. Times from flat yesterday suggest there might be a little juice in the ground,1st and 3rd from last years renewal,if nicholls has just a par in the same kind of form,he looks overpriced to me around 20/1. GL ALL |

Decided to back only one, Theatre Guide each way.
|
|
By:
Have gone with Hadrian's Approach ew and Sausalito Sunrise ew - trainer's just put me off the latter but they've held him back for better ground - he's a bit binary, brilliant at Cheltenham and Ascot, ordinary at Newbury and Kelso.
Tricky race, good luck all... |
|
By:
Weakened and added Measureofmydreams each way. If he stands up I`ll be pleased and if he makes the first four it`s a bonus.

I hope this will silence the Sam Waley Cohen critics for a long long time.

Well done winners, the first two in the first two posts. Good read
|
|
By:
Bit painful that - but any thread starting with the winner is worth losing too...
Well done unclepuncle! |

Didn't bet but enjoyed the race. Well done puncle & co. Good to see Waley Cohen on a big winner again.

Brilliant uncle. Very unlucky Iris.

Im sure Paul Keally in the Weekender tipped the Young Master ... and week before that picked the Scottish National winner...
Not a fan of his - but good to see him get the winners recently in these big handicaps... Well done to him. |

Thought The Young Master was best horse in the race but couldn't bring myself to back it with SWC riding, same with the Scottish National liked Vicente but with STD couldn't bring myself to back it FFS

If I think a horse is good enough on a number of indicators, , a jockey booking would never stop me betting it
|
|
By:
Also I think the presence of an amateur jockey, even a good one like SWC, is reflected in the price. If Gerraghty had been booked the horse wouldn't have been 14/1 when I started the thread.
Surely be aimed at the Grand National next season. |
|
By:
I think Gerraghty 's recent record in big race handicaps has been so dire, the price of TYM would still have opened at 14/1 if he was the jockey.
