The new point to point season kicks off tomorrow. Was hoping to make my first trip to Black Forest Lodge, but that doesn't seem likely now.

I am going to try to go to a few this season have charing, detling ,godstone within easy access !

Charing is a nice course. I've got fond memories of Godstone too as that was my first ptp many many moons ago. They were all local to me when I was living in SE London. I'm now in the Wessex area, so next up for me is probably Larkhill.

Take a very warm coat, hat, scarf, gloves. Then only get out of the car in dire emergencies. Possibly the coldest racecourse this side of Siberia.

Made it Larkhill today. A nice sunny day and a few degrees above freezing, so almost pleasant. Five good races after the hunt members and nice to see Quinz back in the winner's enclosure with Current Event and Aerial winning comfortably enough too, although at short prices. Hopefully I can return after Christmas.

Another cold day at Larkhill and just starting to thaw out. A good quality card with eight races in all. Current Event picked up another ladies and Benedictus won the mens.
First hunter chase at Taunton coming up this week. |

How far did Benedictus beat Perfectly Willing?

Don't have my notes to hand, but a couple of lengths I recall. Seemed comfortable enough and wasn't given a hard race. Probably a career best by Perfectly Willing. Quinz didn't have anything else to offer in 3rd. Arthurian Legend didn't get involved and that was a disappointment.

what is the rule in regards horses who have run under rules in a national hunt season then want to run in the foxhunter at cheltenham? you used to have to run in 2 hunter chases - open points to qualify...what is the rules now do you know?? or in regards to a horse that has been running under rules that season that has been a hunter in the past, does it matter?? as an example marito |

Still seems to be two qualifying races. Either 1st or 2nd in a hunter chase or winning an open point race. GB or Ireland.

REM thanks. My brother owns and trains Perfectly Willing and as you say that was probably a career best. His run at Exeter looked a bit disappointing at the time but if you look back now, it was a very strong race. Chosen Milan might frank the form again today.

I should think your brother will be pleased with that performance. Official result is 2 lengths and 1/2 length, with 9 lengths to the 4th. I didn't have Perfectly Willing 2nd best going into the race so definitely a good performance in my book as there were some decent yardsticks behind. Mark Wall is a good pilot and I always keep an eye on his rides as he seems to get the best out of horses and rides Larkhill well.

First hunter chase today and I've been without electricity for most of the day so restricted to overnight trades for a a small profit. Had Executive Benefit top rated of those with point form, and Double Bank 2nd best - but failed to get my 9.0 place bet matched

Teaforthree is set to make his hunter chase debut at Warwick today if the meet goes ahead, and has been made 5-1 joint-favourite for the Foxhunter Chase.

Teaforthree was a non-runner, shame as he could be a live contender for the foxhunters. Still needs two races to qualify. Anyhow, race turned in to a nice penalty kick for Out Now and couldn't believe it was odds against.
 Aerial ran another good race at Larkhill last Saturday and does qualify, but there is some talk that he'll be aimed at Aintree instead. |

I like Two Rockers, think he has got some nice form over in the Irish points. It says in RP website that A King is still the trainer. Has he gone back to him or is it a mistake on their behalf? |

I recall reading that conditions on the day might determine whether Aerial takes his chance at Chelts, but I can't remember for sure.
I'd expect Tammys Hill to line up along with a few other top Irish horses. Teaforethree had a bruised foot to prevent him running yesterday, however I notice he is entered for Thursday's race at Wincanton and could line up alongside Pacha Du Polder & Twirling Magnet, which could make an interesting race with some useful pointers among the 17 entries too. |

Shame Pacha Du Polder was NR today at Wincanton, but with the ground as it was I can see why.
Did travel today to Wincanton but decided to give it a miss after a large downpour while stopping for a coffee. Played the first three v the field so pleased with how it unfolded. Good to see the old boy Coombe Hill get up. Made a first visit to Chipley Park on Sunday and must say it was thoroughly enjoyable. Point season in full swing now and plenty of hunter chases to play in. |

And damn cold at Milborne. Had to upgrade my hat and gloves.
Looks like it was good racing at BFL. I hope to make one of their meetings this year. Harbour Court won a competitive mens at Milborne under a terrific ride from James Tudor to get up at the post having been hard driven for the last 1/2 a mile. Missed Current Event winning at Musselburgh. Hunter Chases hopefully running at Market Rasen, Ludlow and Bangor this week. Aerial is a stand out entry at MR, although currently the ground is described as heavy. |

Unfortunately the meetings at Market Rasen and Ludlow has been abandoned. Hopefully Bangor races on Friday. Teaforthree has an entry and I notice Calgary Bay could be making a return.

Quite a decent hunter chase in prospect at Bangor tomorrow. Not much in terms of points form among 18 runners, but Teaforthree, Pacha Du Polder, Hector's Choice and Calgary Bay running over 2m4f it should be of a decent standard.

Yes, agree that this is basically a rules race. Trouble is that makes my pointer ratings redundant.

Just got home in time to see Teaforthree win at Bangor. Good performance over what I thought was an inadequate trip with a few decent sorts in the field.
See that Oscar Barton has been ruled out of the foxhunters according to RP. |

Hunter Chase at Musselburgh at 4:25 and can't raise much enthusiasm. Market seems about right and Walden looks like an evens money shot. Can't claim enough insight with the Northern pointers to find anything else worth a punt.

REM I like reading about your thoughts on the hunter chases and point to points, who do you like for the fox hunters at Cheltenham?
I was very keen on harbour pilot last year but ultimately he disappointed, I think the Irish May have the winner this year but not sure with which one! Also can you tell me why prince de beauchene isn't in the betting? |

barnesey - The foxhunters is starting to shape up, but I wouldn't want to stick my neck out. The Irish horses always have to be respected. I see why Teaforthree is well fancied as it won well over a short trip and might be the best rated on the day. Of those I've seen in the flesh nothing has given Aerial a race yet and he looks to have a good chance if lining up. I like Current Event a a lot, but I'm not sure how well suited it will be to the foxhunters. Harbour Court needed a lot of driving at Milborne and made hard work of his race - so would need to improve on that, but he does like Cheltenham. Quinz made a good comeback, but doesn't seem as good as he was.
I'd guess that that Prince De Beauchene is being aimed at the Grand National. He would have strong claims if lining up. Can't wait for the festival... |
