That's not to say it wasn't an enterprising ride from the winner either.

Farcical that an operation as big as Coolmore can still have JOB as their No.1 jockey.
Report sintonian September 15, 2014 12:17 PM BST
Unbelievable. Apparently the chosen one was carrying 1lb overweight aswell. Absolutley fcuking disgraceful. The ride was bad but the overweight is inexcusable. The arrogance of Coolmore to allow it to happen in such a race, they clearly thought Aus would win regardless.

I agree, sint, it obviously wasn't a great ride on Australia but personally I wouldn't blame him too much on this occasion and I've seen him do worse. It looked bad because of the contrast to the ride TGG was given, but on another day Moore could've got blocked off and O'Brien would've been praised for keeping it simple.

As you say, far worse was the 1lb overweight. It smacks of complacency and amateurism, in my view. Of course if Coolmore think the extra weight is a non issue that's entirely up to them. However, this isn't the first time and it shows a complete disregard for the betting public and the racing authorities should be actively discouraging it.

Absolutely right Figgis. People within the profession will accuse people of pocket talking like they always do when it comes to stuff like this but it is a very serious issue that Joseph Obrien has made a habit. The racing press will go easy on it too. Anyone who backed Australia on Saturday, and there will be thousands of people, should rightly feel very angry at this. The ride is by-the-by, but the overweight is a fcuking p1ss take.

I think on the whole the young lad has done really well. Under the microscope on a daily basis and criticised for fun when he makes a mistake unlike some of the donkeys that ride in the UK on a regular basis. Even Lester facked up now and then ( vacarme etc ). Won top class races all over the world with all the pressure that that entails and has a maturity beyond his years. I can excuse him for a bad ride because shat happens in life but I must agree with others with regards the weight issue. I think ballydoyle and the operation are the most professional outfit in the world and with other capable riders at their disposal should have said to JOB make the weight or you don't ride. This would have been in keeping with their total professionalism and attitude that they have displayed in the past and built their success on. It's hard to believe and one might ask if the Coolmore Mafia are getting soft in their old age.

At what point was the overweight announced?
Report snaafi dancer September 19, 2014 10:34 AM BST
i dont understand that seemingly  he wasnt overweight for tapestry  9-0
yet he was one lb over an hour later for australia 9-0
Report Figgis September 19, 2014 12:47 PM BST
Set to carry 8-12 at Ascot

First  i have learned of the Overweight , looks like blood is thicker than water ,  J Murtagh who often rode  for them whilst looking like a Skeleton  would have been torn into if this had happened under him , utterly disgraceful  and that  pound over  probably  did cost him the race .

Joey to ride Ruler of the World. Ryan Moore on Australia in the Arc. You know it makes sense!!! Will Coolmore use this get out to get Joey off the wonder horse???
Report FELTFAIR September 21, 2014 10:22 AM BST
Frankie will get first choice on Ruler of the World and would be surprised if Australia turns up.
Report Akak September 21, 2014 11:20 AM BST
If Australia turns up Joey certainly will not be riding him.Maybe thats why he wants him to be aimed at Ascot.
Report FELTFAIR September 21, 2014 11:32 AM BST
You`re probably right but don`t forget Joseph did 8-12 at York. It would be 8-11 at Longchamp and perhaps an extra shift in the sauna but unlikely as you say.
