can't find any article on it but does anyone have an update as regards to Big Jonny D running?

I'd be very keen on Tinghir for this but looks unlikely to make the cut and there has been no money for it since the weights came out so maybe it's not even the plan.

Tinghir for me too. Should get a run with only 9 needing to come out now and the Lincoln was mentioned as a possible target after he won at Ascot in October. That race was franked by 2nd & 3rd nto and was unlucky in running at Newmarket at end of season so all in all 20-1 a fair poke with 2 weeks to go.

On a more serious note, I take it that as nothing is being barked very loud at all for this that it's a case of wait for the 5 day decs before backing anything.

Emell and Tinghir were among 19 withdrawals as 79 horses stood their ground for the William Hill Lincoln at Doncaster on Saturday.

Both were around the 16-1 mark in the ante-post betting for the valuable handicap that headlines the opening day of the turf season.

Market leaders Whispering Warrior, Gabrial's Kaka, Captain Cat and Irish challenger Paene Magnus all remain at the five-day stage.

As expected, the top-weight Penitent is among the absentees as he is going for the Godolphin Mile in Meydan on Dubai World Cup night.

That leaves the penalised Chookie Royale and Tullius at the head of the list.

For those that do not make the cut, there is the consolation William Hill Spring Mile on the same card.

Is it just me or does the quality, and therefore interest in the Lincoln get lower every year.

Captain Cat is now 9lb higher than his last 2 flat turf starts from last season where he was well beaten. Basically, he needs to transfer his all-weather form back to the turf. A risky or solid fav? His last good run on the flat was off a mark of 87, now 99, back in 2012.

I think he may be a better horse on a quicker surface Sint, softer ground may explain his poor turf form compared to all weather. He is definitely well handicapped enough to win, but im not sure id want to back a horse thats never won a turf handicap at 10-1 to win a race like this.

About the only one I can drum up any enthusiasm for at the prices is Mezzotint @ 20/1 but he wouldn't want it any softer than good and there is rain around so I'll hold fire until the day.

He was beaten too far to blame the ground, Mackies. He actually has some placed form on soft. Maybe the horse was just not right then and has improved now. Seems most likely to me.

Some money for Gabrials Kaka today, can see the appeal with that one.

One More Word is going to be ridden by Tom Queally, form figures first time out are 13.

You may be right as they seemed to experiment with headgear for the poor runs last year which has been dispensed with for the good performances on the aw. Maybe the horse wasnt right and they were looking for improvement with the headgear. The horse is undoubtedly well handicapped looking at the form on the aw. This type of race a much different test though. The two interesting me are Tres Coronas and, should it get in, Charles Camoin.

Will be having a shilling e-w on Jack`s Revenge.

I have NEVER had the winner of the Lincoln in about 40yrs of betting so I should warn you I have bet Captain Cat yesterday @ 12-1 so leave well alone.

Really like the look of Tullius . He has won each of the three times he has run after a significant break ( I.e c 5./6 months)16/1 looks  a reasonable price to make it 4 on the trot !

I like the Hills horse, had a small win bet, though worried that it's also entered in the Listed race and if Hills Snr fancied it surely it would be a shorter price? But at 25/1 worth chancing at small stakes. Positives are that it's a 4 YO with 2-4 wins inc a win over a Mile and at Class 2 Level and rated in the 95-98 band, all good 'stats' if you like them.

Mezzotint, I would have a big worry about it staying this trip on any ground, never mind the likely good/good to soft I expect. You really need a horse that's proved it truly stays a mile (or further) for this.

Dance and Dance is just too old and had too many runs surely to be lifting this? But no doubt may pop up at some stage this season, I couldn't see it this Saturday though.

Gabrial's Kaka would seem a likely sort but maybe his price reflects this, though could see it 6/1 Fav come Saturday. Of the others, not sure what to make of the Easterby horse, but maybe just too inexperienced at this stage of it's career to be winning this, but wouldn't be surprised if it won either.

Perhaps wait for the final decs and draw before further investing.

Spas Dancer comes into it if  soft ground at Doncaster on saturday , not too many miles on clock despite his seven years and race fit from the aw , still looks on a reasonable mark imo. 

If his win at Sandown  last year when he beat   Shamaal Nibras into second  had come later in the year he  would have been pushed up  a bit more in the Handicap , has a fair  e/w chance

Off Art sneeking into the race is one of interest for me.
Improving 3yo last season (3for3) before season cut short with foot injury.
Could be well in off 93 ?

Ended up backing two - both drawn in the middle.

BRONZE ANGEL has raced lots of times in these big handicap races and has won one, top speed figure ain't nothing special,
dark angel's progeny done very well last season cleaning up in the big handicap races, if forgive its recent form figures.
78% of winners in the last 33 years of the lincoln were 4/5 year olds, 78% of winners were 9-0 lbs or lower and the
averaged prices of the winners were 16/1 or more, this one has a tick for all 3 of those trends. gl all

Yep, BRONZE ANGEL for me too.  Won the Cambridgeshire in 2012 and tried his luck in Group company last year before looking a tad unlucky in his last race back in a Class 2 handicap (top weight). Rated 96 which he looks capable of winning off (won off 95), won over C/D, best form on good so I doubt he'd want too much rain. Blinkered first time.

I agree with mac99 on Spa's Dancer, I rated his Sandown win quite highly and it seems to me he did improve again for the move to Eustace. The ground was too quick for him at Royal Ascot and with the f/c for donny he should run better and Ryan Tate takes off a useful 5lb. It's possible he does save his best for Sandown but he's a big price and I've had a small bet.

I've also placed a small bet on Sweet Lightning, I know he's getting on a bit but he did win the Irish Lincoln last year at the age of 8 off a mark of 100 and you could say that was close to a career best there wuth that win not far off his Lincoln win at donny a few seasons ago. 4 starts for O'meara now and he's managed to get the horse down 7lb. His last run in Dubai on RPRs was around 8lb below what he showed in dubai before winning this race off off 104.

So small bets on those 2 in what as usual looks a very tricky race.

Good to have SG in support of Spas Dancer, probably a bit of a shot in the Dark but his Sandown win very clear cut.The money behind Bronze Angel suggests confidence but  his run in last years  Cambridgeshire was poor, he is without doubt seven pound or more well in on his three year old form, but can he be trusted ? Ground now soft - Captain Cat a NR

Captain Cat announced as n/r as ground changes to Soft. There was a lot of rain around here overnight but can't imagine it will be that soft as never gets that bad on Town Moor and could easily be Good to Soft by Saturday I reckon if no more significant rain.

Bronze Angel has great 3 year old form but the application of blinkers is a worry. Would suggest all is not well.

I have had a little e/w Hi There at 33/1. He looks to have his fair share of weight but will go on the ground,will stay and may find a little for stronger handling. Unsinkable looks interesting and it would be no surprise if Levitate raised his game yet again.

Just watched last years running again - Jack's Revenge was given an appalling ride by Tony Culhane, found every bit of trouble imaginable from halfway and yet still came home on the bridle in 5th. I've now had a decent bet on him at 16/1 e/w.

Unclepuncle, i noticed that ride today and it was indeed horrific. With that in mind, what do you make of the jockey booking tomorrow for Jacks Revenge?

I know he is much older than the usual winner but can't help but feel handicapper has given sweet lightning a major chance here. A previous winner of the race and ground will suit.

Jacks revenge is another I would give a great chance too.

While he wouldn't be my first choice I'm not especially bothered about having Fergus Sweeney on board. I expect the tactics will be very similar to last year so just hope for a bit of luck a that he makes the right decisions at the right time.

Over the last 18 months or so Jacks Revenge has been a nearly horse in this sort of race and undoubtedly is going to pop up in one sooner or later. Ive nothing against Fergus Sweeney myself but ive a feeling connections might have gone for a better jockey if tomorrow was going to be the day. I much prefer your other pick, Consign. Ive backed that and Tres Coronas.

Looks like hold up horses are really struggling tomake up ground - not good news for Jacks Revenge.

No chance for hold up horses or those drawn low.

Nothing like drawing a conclusion from one race Uncle. Stall 3 for the winner.

But the pace bias was correct. Ocean Tempest had led until inside the final furlong in last years Spring Mile - hold up horses had no chance.

After spotting the pace bias (literally after the 2nd race and confirmed after the sprint) I did back Brae Hill who was the obvious pace angle in the Spring Mile (aftertiming I know) and then layed off 2/3 of my bet on Jacks Revenge and backed Balty Boys @ 40/1 (posted on Flat season bet thread) based on his last few runs when he has been prominent before getting collared close home, in particular when he was chinned at Chester in September with this Racing Post comment 'Led, crowded and bumped well inside final furlong, headed close home (tchd 6/1)'

I would still say that Jacks Revenge ran really well and I thought he might even win approaching the last furlong but then his run petered out. He's not especially well handicapped and is obviously vulnerable in the big handicap races to something unexposed but I'll be keeping my eye on him as he's likely to be a decent price wherever he runs - maybe the old Schweppes Golden Mile (or whatever it's called now ) at Glorious Goodwood might be his best chance of a real big pot.
