Nightmare! Going to be there on Saturday as well. Might struggle to cheer him home!

Race has changed dramatically with the 5-day decs, could be only 14 or 15 max on the day.

Studied the entries this evening, and I am favouring FLAXEN FLARE for Gordon Elliot to repeat his drive up the hill, in blinkers, this Sunday.

Has already gone close in Heavy at Galway Hurdle in the summer, and allotted 141, which he's proven able to perform too.

His big-field results are better than his small field ones, he loves getting a tow into a race and the way he ripped the heart out of a good-field Fred Winter, gives me hope he will reward my support tonight, for Sundays race.

Does anyone know the record of 4yo's in this race. I know Brampour won it recently but before then I think they had a poor record? Not entirely sure.

4yo 2 winners and 7 placed from 33 runners over last ten years, the other 4yo winner was Detroit City.

Whilst we're on the subject - only 7yo winner in last 10 years is Khyber Kim and none older than that though a total of 39 have tried.

Make of that what you will.

^ 39 runners = 7 years and older over last 10 years just to be clear.

cheers Rease. 2 winners from 33 is not all that great but many make the frame. The two winners were rated 17lb and 13lb afterwards so if you're backing a 4yo they appear to need at least 10lb in hand to win.

NJH has taken out Rollin Star. Says he needs more time. Feel sorry for anyone who backed that on Monday/Tuesday.

PINE CREEK for me

Pine Creek looks good and will be tough to beat, but price to short for me so I'm going back to an old fave in Ifbutandwhynot. I got 14/1 a couple of days ago so hoping for a good run. If he can repeat his run where he gave Tanerko Emery 5lbs and a beating at Cheltenham around this time last year then he will take a lot of stopping. I'm just hoping he wasn't fully primed for his comeback run last month and this was always the target. He should be 100% fit and primed come Sunday.

Looks a good a/p call on Pine Creek Judo. As with the PP it looks a poor renewal and in all the other handicaps at the meeting so far it seems a light(ish) weighted horse with recent winning or placed form is the way to go.

Backed FLAXEN FLARE at 5-day Decs based on (mentioned earlier in this thread):
Cheltenham Form
Forecast Good (Good to Soft) Ground
Preference for Big Fields and Strong Pace.

Took the 14/1 and was surprised it was still available all week, whilst the money flooded in on others.

See P W probably tipped him now, and the price better reflects what I thought his SP could be.

Now all that's needed is a prayer for perfection, from horse and rider on the day, and a lot of luck.

I've thrown a couple of sheckles on Tony Martin's horse Redera.
Thought good enough to run in a grade 2 hurdle at Cheltenham a couple of seasons ago and ran a cracker in the County hurdle that season too. Got squeezed out at a crucial stage when looking likely to have been in the money.
Runs off 132, with a lad on claiming 7lbs. at 25-1 looks interesting

Rawnaq looks worth keeping an eye on, up on the pace all the way and still battling on well when squeezed out at the end.

The only way the Nicholls horse have could have run further was if he had gone on a detour via the car park. Not beaten that far.....I'll be watching!

^ think the plan is novice chasing for Sametegal.

It was before the Greatwood anyway, unless he won it.
