One that stands out immediately is Bertiewhittle. Likes time of year/ground.Runs well in big races.A fortnight between races has proved a winning stat. on a number of occasions. Trainer in form and an interesting jockey booking.
Had a quick butchers at the runners and riders and nascent markets last night.
Initial shortlist goes Bertiwhittle, Redvers, Highland Colori and George Guru, with the thought that initial favourite Queensberry Rules might not get a run.

I'm on Bertie too. I gave it a very good figure last time, he runs well in these big handicaps also recorded a good victory on the july course back 2011. I definitely feel he has the best credentials in this race.

Field of Dream out to 26 on here now just seems ridiculous and have to back, stayin on like a train last time and this is his time of year and ground - unless they know and are waitin for Goodwood
Burwaaz 85 down to an interesting mark if they can get him back to some of his old form, interesting they are persisting so must be somethin still there and George Guru 24 solid performer never too far away at the business end covered too

Luuuuurve the run of Highland Colori with the Ayr Gold Cup in mind. Just touched off by Mass Rally (who I think will go on and win at group level by the end of the year) in last years silver cup and who, imo, is being trained for the gold cup this year. No entry in the big ascot handicap this weekend or the stewards cup. The Bunbury has been used a number of times to win the ayr race including by his father a good number of years ago (Grangeville I think). Tick, tock, tick tock....

Entries out for Ayr Gold Cup and there is Highland Colori at 33-1 in off a mark of 99. This looks a long term plan and will be its first run back at 6f since last years Silver Cup. I always maintain you need a 7f horse to win this, particularly when its riding on the easy side and he fits the bill for me. His latest run was satisfactory (actually thought the winner of that race - Gabrials Lad - won it cosily and has only gone up 4lb. He would be very interesting in the 7f handicap at Ascot the week after the Ayr Gold Cup and I for one hope he doesnt get sent to Scotland) and a speculative punt at 33's will do for me at this stage.

Thanks. I just love this race and always have half an eye on potential winners through the year. Have backed Presto Schinko, Regal Parade, Captain Ramious and now this big boy in recent years. Have to admit I wasnt best pleased they got a penalty for the race but then had my fingers crossed Oisin Murphy would get the mount. What a day he had too. Time and time again 7f form in the likes of the Bunbury or Buckingham Palace comes to the fore. Had a nice lift - £30 ew on both him and Mass Rally at 33-1 and 25-1 respectively so good to see one of them hit the mark. Think my head might hurt a bit in the morning!
