Just wondered why he has having no prep before Royal Ascot? Is it because they want to try and keep him unbeaten or because they will try for the Kings Stand / Golden Jubilee double.

Possibly because the best sprints come at the end of the season so want to keep him fresh? Personally surprised they didn't point him at York.
Report sintonian May 2, 2013 9:49 PM BST
Yeah possible there are quite a few decent sprints to win.

Trainer Clive Cox has been pleased with the unbeaten colt over the winter after he won twice at Group Two level and two Group Ones, including the Middle Park Stakes, as a juvenile.

With no programme for three-year-old sprinters, Cox has been forced to take on his elders before potentially heading to Royal Ascot.

"He'll run in the Temple at Haydock next week. That is very much the plan," said Cox.

"I've been delighted with him over the winter and he's just coming to himself now. He's got options over five and six furlongs going forward and it will be nice to get his wheels turning.

"There is just nothing for three-year-old sprinters in the early part of the season so there was no need to get him ready early. After Haydock we'll move on to Ascot and take it from there."

Taken some 10/1 eachway, looks very fair to me.

Reckless Abandon is likely to have the King's Stand Stakes as his Royal Ascot objective following his highly-promising seasonal debut at Haydock.
Sky Bet

The three-year-old was only beaten a neck and a head in third place behind Kingsgate Native and Swiss Spirit when carrying a Group One penalty in the Temple Stakes on Saturday.

His trainer Clive Cox was delighted with the performance and it is all systems go for Ascot next month.

"He's come out of the race very well indeed. Bar winning we couldn't have been more pleased," said Cox.

"I'm pleased we've had a run before Ascot. I'd be more inclined to be leaning towards the King's Stand at this stage after running so well yesterday.

"We know he can stay further. The track is a little bit stiffer at Ascot and will suit him down to the ground as we know from last year's winning Norfolk performance."

Reckless Abandon, who chalked up two Group Ones from five wins in an unbeaten juvenile campaign, also holds an entry in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at the Royal meeting.

21 left in. Top price 7/1 now though they are only going 1/5 a place.

was at Haydock for Temple Stakes, only recently watched it back and was struck by how far clear the first three were at the finish.

Have to also say though that RA was n't overly keen to go out on to the course, maybe that's normal behaviour for him.

Given CoC stated intention to start meeting on good ground, I would have thought that might help RA a little, ground probably quick enough for him at Haydock.
Report sintonian June 12, 2013 4:56 PM BST
Was thinking the same re the ground. This is one instance where I don't mind the watering! Quite nice the Kings Stand is on the first day.

Golden Jubilee or Kings Stand? do we know?
Report ReaseHeath June 13, 2013 2:55 PM BST
leaning towards the Kings Stand according to his trainer in interview in RP today... because of the way he ran at Haydock, the fact that he is Course and Distance winner, and the fact that it will be 'super' ground on Day One even though he handled the fast ground at Haydock.

The phrase 'primary target' is used which makes me wonder if they'd consider the Jubilee also if he comes out of Kings Stand OK...probably wishful thinking on my part.
Report Happybacker June 13, 2013 3:32 PM BST
Almost certain to be kings stand, for the reasons above, and also because the trainer knows he may already have the diamond jubilee winner in Lethal force!

Fully expect reckless abandon to win the kings stand, and with lethal Force there's a good chance Mr cox could well win both the big sprints next week!
Report judorick June 13, 2013 5:23 PM BST
yes the reason I ask is precisely because I have backed Lethal Force for the Golden Jubilee

cheers

Cox said: "Reckless Abandon will probably be going for the King's Stand. We have kept him in the Diamond Jubilee to keep our options open, but I think a stiff five furlongs will suit him better.

"He ran a great race in the Temple Stakes and has come out of the race very well. I am very pleased with him and he stands a good chance."

Shea Shea will piss up though

Morawij boosts RA's form from the Temple Stakes. He raced with RA in the lone group that day.
Report Spirit June 16, 2013 7:00 PM BST
I have backed reckless in an e/w double with lethal force, good luck everyone, its going to be a wonderful weeks racing.
Report sintonian June 18, 2013 6:55 PM BST
No excuses from what I could see. Maybe it is just tough at this time of year for the 3yos and by the time the Nunthorpe comes around he could be a player.
Report sj June 19, 2013 7:33 AM BST
hanging left has got to be ironed out imo if he is to win on of these, nice run yesterday though all the same
Report sintonian June 19, 2013 10:19 AM BST
yep could possibly do with some headgear
Report sintonian August 7, 2013 5:03 PM BST
Trainer saying his next race could be Haydock over 6f. Shame I've already backed him for the Nunny at 8/1, 10's now.Cry He'd be ideal for that.
Report sintonian September 4, 2013 4:32 PM BST
Given this horse one last chance and backed him antepost at 7/1. Both his Group 1 wins have been at the trip 6f and the form of his Temple Stakes run has worked out well with the 4 behind him that day all winning during the season. Lethal Force is the one to beat but he won't be quite as fresh as this fella, Gerard Mosse is going to ride.

Reckless Abandon is a non-runner in tomorrow's Sprint Cup at Haydock. He is lame according to trainer Clive Cox.
Report sintonian September 6, 2013 12:05 PM BST
Done my money, perils of ante-post but have to say it Smells like bullsh1t to me. For the second time in succession they have pulled him out 24hrs before the big day. They just don't want to face Lethal Force and were waiting for all to be ok. IMO.

Lame Abandon scratched from Betfred Sprint Cup

BY PETER SCARGILL 12:00PM 6 SEP 2013

RECKLESS ABANDON has been forced out of another of the summer's major sprinting prizes after trainer Clive Cox scratched him for Saturday's Betfred Sprint Cup due to lameness.

Unbeaten as a juvenile including Group 1 wins in the Prix Morny and Middle Park Stakes, Reckless Abandon returned to action at Haydock in May with a narrow third in the Temple Stakes before finishing fifth in the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The three-year-old had been in line for a tilt at the July Cup - won by stablemate Lethal Force - at Newmarket but missed the race due to an abscess.

Reckless Abandon was again ready to take on Lethal Force, who is favourite for Haydock's Group 1 sprint on Saturday, but was declared a non-runner on Friday morning. He had been 5-1 second favourite.

Cox said: "I am deeply disappointed because he has trained so well going in to this but I am afraid he wasn't 100 per cent this morning and he can't run. He is sore in one of his hamstrings. We have been working on it as much as possible but he's not 100 per cent."

Heavy rain is forecast to hit Haydock before racing on Saturday with the going changing to good from good to firm on Friday after 4mm of rain.

With rain expected, Lennox Stakes winner Garswood and Gordon Lord Byron had both been backed for success in the Sprint Cup with the pair having a preference for soft ground.
Report sintonian September 8, 2013 6:47 PM BST
Unless they drop him in Grade the next possible races would be the Prix Abbaye or Champions Day 6f G2. It will be very disappointing if we don't see him again this season.
