Like most its the winners that remain long in the memory and I fondly remember - Selkirk 33/1 QE11
Doyoun 25/1 and Nashwan 33/1 in the 2,000gns to smallish stakes but big ones that got away were Deploy 2nd in Irish Derby beaten a neck when I had 150/1 e/w at Corals near Cannon St and other Corals nearby (total bets £150) and Anelka top goalscorer e/w at 100/1 in his first season at Arsenal. He scored 17 and 3 others got 18 goals.

I had £100 on City Honours at 100/1 as a 2yo to win the Derby, which he was beaten a neck in.

I feel your pain.
I was at Epsom when City Honours was beaten a head.  Olivier Peslier got a 6 day whip ban.
My £50 double: Shahtoush 20/1 (won), City Honours 11/1,  and a few hundred win on City Honours.

I bet Dushyantor for the Derby each way @ 500/1 on the day he was born, just because of his pedigree.

He started 11/4f on the day and finished 2nd.

If Betfair had been around back then I wouldn`t be sitting here at a computer writing this post.

johnn, kincsem,I was on the winner for my biggest ever win,£100 win £20 place @ 66/1 after Pontefract and kept topping up,with what I won at Lingfield by derby day I was on over £10,000 to nothing,I have had numerous very near misses and am sure I will have been second to your horses over the years,it a cruel game.

Lance well spotted. That was my mistake, it was BC classic when he was 2nd.

Well done.  It's lovely to hear of someone having a nice touch.  High-Rise came with a great run down the outside that year.
I had £40 at 25/1 on Shatoush in the Oaks the previous day so some consolation.

It sometimes seems the luck takes a while to swing your way.
I've had a few near misses too for five figure sums, but have had a bit of luck too.
In 2006 €7k (16/1+) when Sir Percy won narrowly.
Last October €182 at 75s on Solemia in the Arc.

I was asleep when Solemia won.  I woke an hour after the race and checked the TV teletext.  It said "Japanese horse Solemia wins Arc" Confused

Sharastani in Dancing Braves Derby, Makfi in the 2000 guineas, had a nice touch on that after reading the Ante post forum here, Redford for the Ayr gold cup.

Took 33/1 on Hannon's Indian Ink to win the 2007 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, when the forecast was for a deluge of rain around a week before the race.  The rain duly arrived and she scooted home by 6 lengths at 8/1.

3k @ 14/1 Workforce 2010 Derby. 2nd biggest bet of my life and probably easiest winner I've ever backed!

Bet was only struck because I was defrauded out of 78k by another bookmaker who refused to pay me out on an acca which paid 88k a year earlier.

Never likely to have anything over £200 for the rest of my days, but the satisfaction of winning most of what I was conned out of was very satisfying.

Shafted by IBAS basically, they allowed the firm to amend and backdate their rules to avoid paying me. Went to the Gambling Commission with the intention of taking it to court, but GC were equally hopeless and the firm in question closed their doors the same day that the GC told them they would be paying them a visit the next day.

I have since contacted various racing journalists who were shocked by the evidence I had to back up my story, but the bottom line was that the firm shut up shop so no chance of ever getting the money.

Similar story here but with Earth Summit for the Grand National.

Biggest winner was Lammtarra, on whom I'd been having the odd tenner whenever I could afford it over the winter, until I ran into a Racing Post journalist who told me the colt was at death's door in the Dubai veterinary hospital (doubtless why Hills were so accommodating).

Luckiest was Nashwan for the Guineas. I went into the shop to back him for the Derby but when I asked what the odds were, the manager came back with the Guineas price as well, which was too hard to resist.

The one that got away was Belmez for the Derby. He was injured but subsequently beat the previous year's French Derby winner, Old Vic, in the King George. He'd already beaten the eventual Derby winner, Quest For Fame, in the Chester Vase.
