The race has cut up so much and the ground has come so much in his favour that my thought is that it is wisest to watch him win rather than hope to get him beat. With Grands Crus not the horse he was in the Feltham I don't see anything with the combination of both class and stamina to beat him.
won't be winning the Gold Cup, it has proved almost impossible to regain the Gold Cup and only Kauto Star has ever done... this alone makes Long Run a very unlikely winner of the 2013 CGC

for him to regain the gold cup you have to believe he was not at his best behind TGB and Synch, and many do think that. personally i think thats more or less how good he is,and would be surprised should he win it again, especially with the horses emerging this season.

I am of the opposite opinion. I think the real LR was the 6 YO who won the Gold Cup in 2011 and last year he was never quite right. I think, and hope, he will win well today and I fully expect him to be there or therabouts on Gold Cup day.
judo - not many 6 YO's win the Gold Cup so I think he has time on his side to regain it. I do admit it is an awesome stat to break but I am a fan so am hoping this boy can do it. We will have a better idea by the end of today.

Wealthy owners who own horses can do what they like but to give the horse a fair chance to realize his full potential, he should give Geraghty the ride!

Written off following a poor Gold Cup 3rd by his own standards.
People forget the run in last years Gold Cup would any of these get that close to Kauto Star? Then the run in the Denman Chase giving weight all round and setting a new course record, which IMO took alot of him before the Gold Cup only 4 weeks later

Forget the gold cup. At Kempton he sets a sufficiently high standard in my view such that it will take a special performance to lower his colours today. Can anything do that? I think TGB is a better horse at Cheltenham, Riverside is the most likely in my view but he has a lot of ground to make up from the King George two years ago. Is he that much better than he was then? I think he is better but I'm not sure he is that much better. Grands Crus would need to turn up in his Feltham form and I think that highly unlikely. I like Cue Card and for one so young he seems to have been around forever but asking the question of him staying I can't get Newbury out of my mind and in my view anybody who does it attempting to rationalise away a major question mark.

LR didnt win as well as I hoped but he won. Step 1 complete. Plenty of 3m reputations done and dusted and all banished to Ryanair - Cue Card, Riverside Theatre, Grands Crus. Captain Chris well deserved respect. We know TGB gets GC distance and course but he is not good enough. Junior and Kauto Stone out of depth. Champion Court looks a good Ryanair bet. Friday will tell us whether there is a challenge coming from Ireland. I hope there is or it looks like Bobs Worth v Long Run come March.

I wouldn't write TGB off just yet. He is only 7 and certainly in March was relatively inexperienced. If he gets his jumping sorted out he can still run a big race in March. Although the ground was a factor it merely reinforced the fact that you really do need to stay to win a King George and I for one wouldn't back a horse in hope.
