The Japan Cup is traditionally run on the last Sunday of November. It is a Group 1 for 3 year olds and older and is run at Tokyo Racecourse over a distance 2400 metres (approx. 1miles 4 furlongs). It is one of the richest races in the world. It was first run in 1981and was initially dominated by overseas runners, however, in recent years the home team have had the upper hand. Japanese trained horses have taken the race for the last 6 years. This year sees the first 2 home in The Arc, Solemia and Orfevre, reoppose. The race is due of on Sunday 24th November at 6.40am (GMT)

Major Runners -
- Orfevre - favourite. Just caught in the last strides in the Arc after looking home and hosed with 200 metres to run. High class performer who might just be able to overcome his bad draw.
- Gentildonna - Winner of Fillies’ Triple Crown in Japan this year. Badly drawn and 3 year olds don’t have a great record in this.
- Rulership - Ran a great race to finish 3rd in the Tenno Sho (Autumn). Hasn’t got the best of draws but could still run a big race
- Fenomeno - 3 year old Japanese colt. Fast finishing 2nd in Tenno Sho (Autumn) Yet to win a Group 1 Race
- Solemia - Arc winner. Badly drawn and French trained horses have a poor recent record here. Going will be completely different to that at Longchamp on Arc Day
- Eishen Flash - Won Key trial from Fenomeno and Rulership. Well drawn, Group 1 winner and his jockey has a good record in the race. Trends pick
- Mount Athos - 5th in Melbourne Cup. Trainer was the last overseas handler to win this, in 2005 with Alkaased. Lacks a Group 1 win but could be the best of the foreign challengers.
Verdict -
Orfevre looks to have a big chance despite his poor draw and makes the shortlist but the contender with the best trends profile is Eishen Flash. Next on the list is Rulership, whose trainer won this in 2009 with Vodka
