This COULD be the best Group 1 mile of the season.

Sir Henry has said Frankel may run, but that is highly unlikely.

We then have Moonlight Cloud who will step up to 8f for the first time since the Guineas. Either one of Power/Excellebration according to AOB depending on the going.

Most Improved is confirmed by Brian Meehan.

What about the likes of Immortal Verse and the French Guineas horses ?

Sint - didn't Cecil say the Moulin instead?
The Jacques is only a week or so from the Juddmonte and he's definitely on course for that - the Longchamp mile race would fit in well with Frankel's programme so that is a possibility.

Immortal Verse put in a limp performance behind Elusive Kate and I'm sure Golden Lilac will be stepping up in trip to the Romanet instead.

It'd be nice to see Excelebration have his day in the sun though I suspect he may be 'shot' after the Ascot mauling, so Moonlight Cloud would be fancied to see out the trip in what may well develop into a weakly contested race.

24 declared - I was wrong...it looks very tasty at the moment Happy

That fcukin' French website is just IMPOSSIBLE! Cry
I can't access the runners for the Jacques or even the Arc.

As usual, the hopeless RP & ATR refuse to provide us with group one information outside England Sad

NAVEL, do you understand French, if not how did you translate, please?

Cannot find an ENGLISH version anywhere at all, there is one on
France Galop.
Perhaps you can point out where the English version is, please, NAVEL?

Bazzar - I'm shít at navigating through such abysmal sites, and the only reason I managed to track those runners down (on that link) was because someone else put it up, and I saved it.

All 24 entries are listed there, so at least we know who's NOT running!

PS - my knowledge of French stretches back a long way to the 'O' Level I did another lifetime ago, and nothing since! Wink

So do I go into DEAUVILLE and hope to find the MAROIS, as obviously I will recognise
the names of the horses, it is a puzzle at times, wish I had French as a lesson but my knowledge only stretches to the odd word picked up here and there, mostly swear words
actually.

City Scape to run this weekend also.

Roger Charlton's six-year-old won the Dubai Duty Free over nine furlongs on Dubai World Cup night and attempted to stretch his stamina to 10 furlongs in the Eclipse when last seen.

Having travelled as well as anything until the two-furlong marker, he was running on empty up the Sandown hill and it is no surprise to see him step back down in trip.

"Cityscape is an intended runner in the Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville on Sunday and we should have a better idea after the forfeit stage what is running," said Charlton on his website, www.rogercharlton.com.

"With Frankel frightening off most of the runners in the Sussex Stakes, Sunday's race is likely to be very competitive."

The likes of Moonlight Cloud, Golden Lilac, Most Improved, Immortal Verse, Excelebration and the John Gosden-trained fillies Fallen For You and Elusive Kate are all still engaged at this stage.

Down to just the 16 now but I'd be surprised if Golden Lilac stays in - the Romanet is a week later and it's over a more suitable 10f.
Group one for older fillies so that's the far more sensible option.

A shame there is no beting on this currently. I'd have a good cut of Most Improved otherwise, I suspect he'll be underestimated against this field.
By:
Navel-Gazer
When: 08 Aug 12 18:39
I wonder if Gosden's gonna run both his fillies?
Elusive Kate HAS to run over the same C&D of her recent win but I have a suspicion that Fallen For You is the better of the pair - she quickened really well in the Coronation and it'd be another ball-busting choice for Buick - Hughes on standby again?

Immortal Verse is the one I'd hate to price up as she needs a huge improvement from her run in the Rothschild, though the ability is DEFINITELY there.
It's a very difficult race to form a basic tissue and I can't wait to see what prices become available over the next few days - let's hope the big guns stand their ground.

I'd agree with sint and hope he is a decent price though it may be a PMU bet. Fallon is very confident if your read his Weekender column and the stable have always believed him to be top drawer and whilst the 3yo milers are not a great bunch, his win in SJP was impressive enough considering how his seasom has gone

Does anybody have any strong views about Moonlight Cloud getting the mile?
By:
Navel-Gazer
When: 08 Aug 12 20:24
I don't think it's something anyone can be TOO dogmatic about, but in a 'normal' French race, I think she'd see out the mile OK.
With a sustained pace on a straight track, with no let-up in the pace (plenty of UK runners) it could be a real concern.

If she's a short price I might well lay her, especially as she had to plough her way through that ground a few days ago - it might have left its mark despite her doing it easily.

This looks like Excelebration's to lose (if he runs).
By:

When: 08 Aug 12 21:00
I don't know either. It's difficult to get a handle on the time of her last race, there were only 3 turf races and that was the only one run entirely on the straight so there's nothing to compare with. But if the form can be taken literally, even allowing for some of the others running below their best, it looks a considerably improved run. I'd say she's run about 8lbs better than ever, which if she could carry that over a mile she'd be the best female miler I've seen for a long time, better than Goldikova. I have my doubts about that and for that reason I think she may be strictly a sprinter.
One thing is certain though, that time was much too fast for the ground on that part of the course to be very soft as described, couldn't have been any softer than the slow side of good, unless there was a very strong tail wind. I agree though that such an effort could possibly take longer than a week to recover from.

With question marks on the trip and her last run being only a week ago, Moonlight Cloud would definitely be one to take on. It is a pity that there is no AP market as that would have her clear favourite imo but I don't actually think she will run leaving value in others

Excelebration on form over a mile would definitely be the one to beat and I guess the question mark is how he has recovered from Ascot when the took on Frankel. If he runs and wins that would be a proper performance and surely show how good Frankel is over a mile.

Definitely a race I am interested in but as always it will depend on the respective prices.

not a hope in hell any bookmaker would be pricing up moonlight cloud as clear favorite for thisConfused Excelebration would head the market and be an extremely solid and short favorite, probably around 5/4 antepost i would guess, moonlight is a sprinter and 7f is her max trip, over a mile against alot of these entered, she would be 4th 5th or 6th in the betting
By:
roobuck
When: 08 Aug 12 22:52
HRE, that may be where she should be in the market, but not in reality where she would be. Excelebration at 5/4 would be a ridiculous price against everything still engaged in an AP market
By:
HorseRacingExpert
When: 08 Aug 12 23:00
the bookies aint stupid and they know this is a staked field over a mile, moonlight is brilliant, but a brilliant sprinter, they would have her down the field a bit when the odds come out and weather you think 5/4 is a terrible price or not, that is about the right price,we know he is pretty much in a different league to the rest of the enteries and is the standout horse in the field
By:
roobuck
When: 08 Aug 12 23:10
'5/4 is about the right price' 'different league to the rest'.........NO!

As per my previous post he would be the horse to beat, but not at that price FFS.

if all those are in the field,Excelebration is a short priced favorite, you will find out this weekend when the prices go up,no way in hell he will be any bigger than 6/4 if turning up and you must be able to see that
By:

When: 08 Aug 12 23:22
All I can say is that I would be in no way interested in the horse at that price....no doubt you would think it was buying money
By:
HorseRacingExpert
When: 08 Aug 12 23:27
you might not be interested in the price, but the point is,that its just about the correct price and its about what it will be,secondly,no horse on this planet or the next could ever be described as buying money with that total novice jockey on board, the kid is a joke and i would have no doubts that he would have gotten Frankel beaten once or twice already if he was Frankels jockey
By:

HRE - you're not very well named squire Plain

I will be laying the balls off Excelebration if he is anywhere near that ridiculous price you suggest!
That's not to say he's go no chance...of course he's in with a squeak.
If a book was made right now with all 16 going...he'd be at least FOUR times that price!

As I mentioned earlier...this is as tough a 3yo+ group one to price up that I can remember!

I believe being Frankel's 'bítch' has hurt him mentally, and although I'd really like to see him win, because he deserves another decent prize
and it'd silence the Frankel critics, I think he's up against it.

LaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaugh have you had a bang on the head sir? are you seriously suggesting that the following would worry ExcelebrationConfused

Moonlight Cloud SPRINTER,
Golden Lilac CLEARLY NOT UPTO IT ON LAST 2 RUNS AND HATES SOFT GROUND
Most Improved DONT MAKE ME FU CKING LAUGH,WORST CROP OF 3 YEAR OLDS IN MANY A YEAR AND ONLY SCRAPED HOPE IN THE ST JAMES
Immortal Verse MULLERED BY EXCELEBRATION LAST SEASON
Fallen For you Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz PLEASE
Elusive Kate DECENT FILLY,MIGHT RUN WELL WITH THE ALLOWENCES,BUT NEEDS TO FIND MASSES TO CHALLENGE HIM
Cityscape PROBABLY THE BIGGEST DANGER,BUT FORM IN THE UK NOTHING SPECIAL,FLATTERED BY HIS RUNS OVERSEAS

YOU SHOULD BE HAPPY THAT YOU ARE GOING TO GET THE CHANCE TO LAY HIM AT A SHORT PRICE

GOOD LUCK WITH THAT WORKING OUT FOR YOU SIR

HRE - with well over 30 years experience at this game...I can assure you that if Excelebration is 5/4 (and all 16 go) that would be the WORST value I've EVER seen!

Again, that's not to say he CAN'T win...I just don't think he will - good luck if you're on and I'll cheer him home if I'm wrong Wink
By:

When: 09 Aug 12 00:26
we shall just have to wait and see what happens, but if the field remains strong and he goes on to win like an odds on shot, you can then come back with your 30 years experience and post your apologies sirWink

and your quote of 'frankels b1tch' was very harsh,Excelebration is without doubt one of the best milers of the past number of years and you should not let frankels brilliance cloud that fact and you can totally forget the form of the queen anne,o'briens foolishness was the only reason for the 11 length margin, had he been ridden properly,i would have been 5 lengths at most

Down to 13 runners now...who's defected?
Siyouma was one and I think another was an O'Brien rag (maybe Requisition?)
Any idea of the other one?

I'm very surprised to see Golden Lilac's still loitering with intent.

Siyouma's already defected, and I'd STILL be surprised if Golden Lilac runs...it doesn't make sense when she has a much better option next week! Confused
Fabre ALWAYS seems to do the right thing with his horses and to run here is a strange move, especially as she was totally outpointed by Elusive Kate over the same C&D a fortnight ago.

You reckon Gosden will run both fillies?

How did you find out Ballydoyle aren't running the bums?
