Incidentally, I think this was actually mentioned as a target for Frankel - which makes me wonder if
his price for the Sussex Stakes is a trifle skinny (although he'd lag in if he ran, I'm sure).
Report roobuck June 29, 2012 8:25 AM BST
The plan is to run in both

Thanks Roo.

I think this was always going to be Frankels first stepp up to 10f+, and may well be his only one, it will depend on the ground at Ascot in Oct (Champions Day) if he stays at 10f & if he wins well at York. If it came up very soft at Ascot, he would prob go back to 1mile (QE11)
Looking forward to seeing Frankel for the 1st time in the flesh at York in Aug, one of my fav meetings of the flat season (Ebor festival) missed it last year Sad
Booked in for the 4days this year Cool all being well.
Report elisjohn July 2, 2012 1:38 PM BST
miller, loved the ebormeeting  myself as it used to be 7 top class races over 3 days, spoilt this meeting as it is now imo
Report sintonian July 2, 2012 3:37 PM BST
Some idiots were still backing Frankel for the Eclipse yesterday at odds as low as 10/1.
Report bazzar July 2, 2012 4:16 PM BST
Haven't we had two trainers saying that their horses
would NOT run in certain races, only to run and WIN, so some
would consider a throw away small stake just in case.
I started backing a horse for ARC last year and she was not
supplemented until 26 days later, never had more than £12
on at various stages but the odds were excellent.
Report sintonian July 2, 2012 4:20 PM BST
I understand that Bazz but we're talking small odds. If, like you did, someone takes a chance a massive prices then fair enough.
Report bazzar July 2, 2012 4:33 PM BST
We also live in an age where ALL the accepted establishment people were,
in the main, to be trusted with only the odd rogue, but now EVERY damned person
is a liar and a thief, no wonder people are confused!!!!!
I pinpoint on the era of COMMERCIAL TELEVISION and constant bombardment
of lies known as advertisements!!!!!!!
Round about the late 1950s when we followed the yanks and have done ever since.
Report Zagreb July 2, 2012 8:52 PM BST
Does anyone think St nicholas abbey might run here? Can't see camelot or So you Think showing up so if O Brien is to run anything it might be this one?
Report sintonian July 3, 2012 9:18 AM BST
Agree Bazz.

Quite possible Zagreb. I think they will defo try SNA in a 10f G1 this season, though it might be the Irish Champion.
Report roobuck July 3, 2012 9:37 AM BST
No cannot agree with that I'm afraid. That point was raised about Frankel's odds for the Eclipse and post race this was mentioned as a possibilty by Cecil. Since then he made it quite clear that the Sussex would be the next race.

There has been an increasing lack of information about horses that are prominent in AP lists from trainers and I have taken this now to mean that there is a problem or unlikely to run.

However HRAC imo has been nothing other than straightforward and so to be classed as a liar and a thief is utterly wrong
Report sintonian July 3, 2012 1:14 PM BST
I was agreeing about the part re advertising and commercial television.

I believed HRAC from the word go re Frankel, and thats why  the backers of Frankel 24hrs the day before 5-day decs, are Stupid.
Report roobuck July 3, 2012 1:43 PM BST
Had no doubt about that sint, I was picking up on bazzar's comments. I know they were made as a generalisation but I still felt needed to be challenged
Report bazzar July 3, 2012 3:32 PM BST
I have no need to defend myself, except to say that HENRY is one of a very few exceptions, otherwise I stand by what I said about confusion in MOST cases.
We have a doctor proved to have murdered 200 or more people, paedophiles in the church, criminals in parliament and Lords and bankers ripping us all off even AFTER the taxpayer bailed them out, DIAMOND delayed his resignation only until he knew HIS payment package was safely ensconced where he wanted it, he will get away with it as is usual, in most cases, especially when aided by corrupt politicians!!!!!!
Report roobuck July 3, 2012 4:02 PM BST
Quite how you got to that from someone backing Frankel for the Eclipse, in case he did in fact run, is quite beyond me. Didn't realise your post was a complete social commentary, thought this was a thread about horse racing. Hope you can work through your anger soon Laugh
Report bazzar July 3, 2012 4:26 PM BST
I have been writing to newspaper editors complaining of the decline in honesty in OUR country for about 20 years, just wasting my time and energy, most of them GAIN extra money from the self same advertising of which I complain, ask yourself why some of us react by committing criminal acts when we are bombarded EVERY day and GREED is lauded to the skies.
Sorry for my rant ROOBUCK but as you will realise I don't like the way things are going, I get lots of pleasure from my betting, it's me trying to outguess the connections of horses.
Report sintonian July 3, 2012 5:03 PM BST
Kind of agree with you there Baz. Last summers riots has a lot to do with promotion of greed, celebrity and mediocrity. Media are as bad as the banks.

Just hope Coolmore really go for it and run 3 or 4 including SNA and make it a real test - though as Frankel is by Galileo they may decide it's better for business if he remains unbeaten.
Report EastLower Gooner August 1, 2012 7:10 PM BST
depending on the line up I'll take a day off work to go to this.

Which seems unlikely as I'd want to see a star studded line up vs Frankel :(

The supplemented horsies (if any) would be interesting...dare I say it the likes of Meandre, No Risk At All or Pastorious would be mightly interesting? Maybe even an American raider like Acclamation.....I'll just give up dreaming on that.

.....

as a side note...wouldnt you lot like to go back in time and back one of the International / B&H winners from yesteryear vs Frankel ie Falbrav, Giants Causeway....I'd even put a bit on Roberto or Electrocutionist here. Falbrav would be a max bet job for me.
Report A_T August 1, 2012 7:18 PM BST
Certainly not Falbrav. Sea the Stars (obviously)  - maybe Singspiel and Sahkee.
Report johnn August 2, 2012 12:49 PM BST
Falbrav was a hugely imposing beast. I still managed not to back him after seeing him in the paddock at York, too.

That's actually a pretty decent line up for Frankel if they all lined up. If they smashed that by 4 or 5 like he does at a mile they'll surely have to seriously consider an Arc tilt.
Report PeteTheBloke August 3, 2012 6:24 PM BST
That's what I was thinking ELG. It would be bloody great, wouldn't it, to see Frankel in the Arc?
Report PeteTheBloke August 7, 2012 8:16 PM BST
Scratch Cirrus des Aigles. It's looking less of a race now. What a pity.
Report layingisthewayforward August 10, 2012 12:48 PM BST
Nathaniel wont be running either.. Going to be a hopeless turn out.
Report roobuck August 10, 2012 12:59 PM BST
Once they supplemented him for the Irish Champion that was always going to be his likely target
Report A_T August 10, 2012 1:56 PM BST
trouble with this race is that it is only ever a target for 10f horses - Nathaniel and Camelot got their eyes on other races - and with Cirrus out the only real opposition to Frankel is his own stamina limitations
Report PeteTheBloke August 10, 2012 8:07 PM BST
the only real opposition to Frankel is his own stamina limitations

If he has any. I can't see 10f being a problem. Especially if the opposition is less than brilliant.
Report sintonian August 15, 2012 5:23 PM BST
AOB unusually bullish about SNA. Flat,left-handed track over an extended 10f on quickish ground SNA should at least provide somekind of test for Frankel imo. The Sussex Stakes lto was a shocking race for the grade.
Report Millerracing67 August 15, 2012 9:44 PM BST
On his best form, SNA will be the bet "without" the fav.
Frankel will be way 2 gd for him & the rest, next wk.
Hope the rain stays away from York, what is the weather forcast for York next wk?

Bit of an alternative view on Frankel's prospects here. I'm not inclined to agree, but a different view is always interesting:

Any idea on the tactics here?

I suspect Aidan's cooking up something different here and I think it might happen when they turn for home.

They usually like to come down the middle at York and its highly likely Mongan would opt for this route on Bullet Train.....got a feeling Coolmore might opt to stick to the rail and let Robin Hood and Windsor Palace power up the far side towing St Nicholas along as far as possible.

might give them an edge....Frankel final furlong getting tired, out in front and he can't see the challenge from St Nicholas on the other side of the track who'll be staying on quite powerfully.
Report roobuck August 20, 2012 5:41 PM BST
If they leave Bullet Train to make the pace for the first 6F they might as well stay at home. The only chance is a searching gallop to a) truly test Frankel' stamina and b) to give SNA the best chance to overcome his lack of speed.
Report tinkler August 21, 2012 8:25 PM BST
AOB leaving 2 pacemakers in signifies they are going to go pretty quick ,cann't see any benefit from them going an average pace.
I'd imagine SNA will be held up and Frankel will just follow his pacemaker.
Some of SNA's form suggests he could have problems stepping back in trip ,but thats probably an illusion. When he won the Breeders
Cup it ended up a bunch sprint and he had too much pace for them. Again at Meydan over 1 1/2m they didn't go that quick and if had
a better run he would have probably beaten Cirrus des Aigles. LH flat track ,fast ground, fast run 1 1/4m could be his optimum conditions. Hopefully
the rain York has had today will be enough for the likes of Farrh to run. Est true price on SNA w/o Frankel 1/2 present best odds
evens and backed him.
With this being Frankel's main aim for a while it's possible Queally will ride him out all the way to the line, without SNA he would
probably win by 8 lengths plus. Not sure how close SNA will get to frankel. Imo it would be a surprise if he got within 3 lengths.
Unless SNA pull's out I cann't see any value in the winning distance market.
Report sintonian August 22, 2012 12:09 PM BST
Originally looked through the York card and found nothing I fancied but did not check the w/o Frankel market so have taken 6/5 for SNA. I think he has enough pace for this trip and if the yard did not have So You Think I reckon they would have ran in the Prince of Wales.
Report EastLower Gooner August 22, 2012 2:11 PM BST

View of what happened.
Regulation Frankel win.
SNA ran his race ,but there is possibly a suspicion that given the way he sweats that he runs better on Lasix (assuming he was on it in America)
Farrh looked in mint condition pre-race ,probably put up a career best effort and looks on the upgrade ,with Sna and himself pulling clear of the 4th.
Surprised the photo went Farrh's way as it looked to me like SNA had got passed him. Suppose it's just variance ,though thats not what I was saying at the time. You'd have to say there is little between SNA and Farrh at 1 1/4m but given that Farrh was a significantly bigger price in the w/o market it's fair to say he was a better bet.
Report EastLower Gooner August 22, 2012 6:20 PM BST
coolmore were happy with that...they're over the moon on twitter with another Galileo win.
