The Prix d’Ispahan is a Group 1 Race for 4 years old and older racehorses . It is run at Longchamp over 1850 metres (about 1 mile 1 furlong) . It is scheduled to be run on Sunday 27th May. Goldikova won the race last year and in 2010. Here are a few trends from the last 10 years –

Distance 10/10 winners had won over at least 8 furlongs

Class - 10/10 were winners of a Listed or Group race .Three had won a Group 1 , another three had won a Group 2 while two had won a Group 3 and the other two had won at Listed Class

Runs that season - 8/10 had a run that season , the exception being Goldikova in 2010 and 2011 who was making her seasonal debut.

Last Time Out  - 7/10 finished in the first 3 last time out

Key Races – 2 winners finished 3rd in the Prix Ganay prior to winning here.  Andre Fabre has won the race twice in the last 10 years and both his winners  ran in the Earl of Sefton at Newmarket finishing 3 1 before their success here.

Trainers – Freddie Head and Fabre have won the race twice in the past 10 years.

A penalty kick for CDA imo. Peslier will take him to the front like last time and let him take the rest off their feet.
Report HorseRacingExpert • May 24, 2012 11:09 PM BST
I would not go as far as to say it was a penalty kick,he will obviously take a great deal of beating tho, last time out he was facing nothing of the quality of these, there are a few multiple group 1 winners in opposition here,
Golden Lilac still has all sorts of potential and could easily be a world beater this season,
Planteurs connections messed his season right up last year running a few races over a mile, back at his correct distances,he has the ability to be very competitive, after all,it was only a year ago last month that he firmly put CDA in his place, the latter has improved a fair bit from then tho, there is also a chance that Cirrus skips this and runs in the coronation stakes.
Be interesting to see how they price this one up

I cant see them taking on St Nick again tbh, particularly around Epsom. There was not much between them in Dubai and CDA got the run of the race from the front.

This looks the easiest option to win another Group 1.

8/11 for cirrus.

this not slightly short for him? couldnt beat a declining goldikova in it last year, although she did get first run.
Report sintonian • May 25, 2012 6:34 PM BST
Dont think she was declining at that stage tbh. After than run she gave Canford Cliffs a race with 2lb overweight. After that hard race she was on soft/declining.

I wont be backing him but dont really see what beats him tbh

agree with that,i believe Goldikova's first 2 runs last season were really high class efforts.
Will wait till the full prices are out on sunday before making a call on this one, would not be surprised to get evens come saturday night or sunday morning, that would be very tempting and around 6/1 Planteur looks incredible each way value

Cirrus Des Aigles has another opportunity to demonstrate his remarkable versatility in Sunday's Prix d'Ispahan at Longchamp.

Corine Barande-Barbe's humbly-bred gelding has now firmly established himself as one of the sport's top competitors across the world, winning last year's Champion Stakes and going on to land the Dubai Sheema Classic.

He returned to France to take the Group One Prix Ganay, over a mile and three furlongs on heavy ground, by eight lengths and now drops back to just over nine furlongs of the Bois de Boulogne.

Cirrus Des Aigles, who was beaten just a quarter of a length by the outstanding Goldikova in last year's Ispahan, faces a few familiar faces.

These include Planteur, who defeated him in the previous year's Ganay and finished third in the Dubai World Cup on his first start for Newmarket trainer Marco Botti.

Last year's French Derby winner Reliable Man, who was third in the Ganay, and Andre Fabre's filly Golden Lilac, winner of the French Guineas and Oaks at three, are also lining up along with David O'Meara's Sandown Mile winner Penitent.

"He seems well and the plan is to run on Sunday," said Barande-Barbe.

"It's going to be a difficult race - there are some horses from the big stables coming back for their first run, as well as Planteur and Reliable Man - but he ran well in the race last year."

Looking beyond this task, the trainer said: "I have not confirmed him for the Coronation Cup and he would not run next Saturday if he ran on Sunday. He could go to Royal Ascot after this."

Cirrus Des Aigles has been installed at 8-11 by Paddy Power over 9-2 Planteur.

Of Planteur, Botti said: "I'm very happy with him and he seems in good order.

"The ground is not too quick and that seems fine for Planteur.

"It looks a very good race with Cirrus Des Aigles and Golden Lilac in there.

"It's a tough Group One, but he ran a very solid race to finish third in the Dubai World Cup and he deserves to run.

"That (Dubai) was his first run for us, so you would expect him to improve, also. We had to rush him a bit to get him to Dubai, but he's had a break now and he's come back in and looks very well.

"I'm not worried about the (nine-furlong) trip. When he's run over less than 10 furlongs before he's had other reasons for not winning than the trip."

Prix d'Ispahan

Paddy Power bet: 8-11 Cirrus Des Aigles, 9-2 Planteur, 11-2 Golden Lilac, 10-1 Reliable Man, 16-1 Tin Horse, 22-1 Penitent, 25-1 Zinabaa, 33-1 No Risk At All

Stunning performance by Golden Lilac, first race of the season, did not settle and was pulling fairly hard throughout the race and still won nicely,
Cirrus just needs a bit longer in trip and softer ground in future
Report sintonian • May 27, 2012 4:04 PM BST
Yup. I still thought he'd win but he lost nothing in defeat.
Report Masterminded • May 27, 2012 10:37 PM BST
The monster that is Golden Lilac is back. Clearly something a miss lto but she had it all today. To run with the choke out for nearly the whole race and win like that was ultra impressive. Be surprised if she gets beat for a while.
Report HorseRacingExpert • May 28, 2012 2:06 PM BST
Cant see anything in the Prince of Wales stakes that can beat her,she looks a good thing if coming over for the race,Cirrus wont be able to turn the tables over 10f on good ground and SYT is just not upto it and cant beat either of them

Report sintonian • May 28, 2012 3:37 PM BST
Well im pretty sure SYT would be favourite for the race even with Golden Lilac running.

Not sure what else will turn up.
Report HorseRacingExpert • May 28, 2012 4:40 PM BST
because Golden Lilac and CDA are both coming over from france,i think you are probably right in saying that the english bookies would have SYT as favotite, but i think there will be very little between the 3 of them in the betting,it may even be a case where the bookies are split and some open GL as favorite and others SYT,
I hope SYT is favorite,as the price for GL would be all the better,

I would be extremely strong on GL in this race and she will be carrying all of my money, her turn of foot on the likely good/firm ground would leave them both for dead and on that likely ground,i would have SYT ahead of CDA also
Report tinkler • May 28, 2012 7:26 PM BST
Slow pace, bunch finish, with a couple of rags finishing close up and Cirus des and Planteur running over an inadequate trip. Doesn't look like good form to me and doubt it would have much relevance to the Prince of wales where AOB will probably run a couple of pacemakers to make it a severe test, to the advantage of SYT.

Oh Golden lilac is good.

I remember her last year and the performance she put in trial against Galikova I could not believe how poor she was that day.

She was back big time yesterday. Best Filly Andre Fabre has trained in his own words.

Take her to beat So you think. She is sensational.
Report HorseRacingExpert • May 28, 2012 9:07 PM BST
You will change your mind after royal ascot tinkler, she is simply breathtaking,i have not been so excited about a filly for some years, the turn of foot she showed on sunday was electric and a fast pace and better ground is exactly what she wants to be seen at her most effective,so the Prince of Wales stakes will be perfect,my absolute banker of the meeting, cant wait
