nephrite still in, yet obrien stated that the horse didnt stay 7 furlongs last time, and wouldnt stay a mileConfused.

I wouldn't read too much into it Elish.

5/1 the field. Looks wide open.

Power was beaten 37 lenghts at HQ, but so was ROC last year before he won this.

Trumpet Major would have a good chance if the going is GoodtoFirm.
Report roobuck • May 21, 2012 4:22 PM BST
I think that Power will AOB's chosen one. AOB admitted that Power was a little behind the others in his prep for our Guineas and he'll have him cherry ripe for this. Whether he's good enough is another thing.

5/1 for Hermival looks a decent price imo
Report Tucho • May 21, 2012 5:13 PM BST
big fan of trumpet major, but i'm sure hannon said they were going to royal ascot with him rather than irish 2000g
Report mightymoyes • May 21, 2012 7:04 PM BST
backed takar for the derby after his 1st run last year, hope to get some consolation on saturday.
Report elisjohn • May 22, 2012 6:50 AM BST
nice odds about quite a bit of the runners available, if we knew whats running etc, great e/w on hermival9/2, parish hall 6/1, trumpet m 7/1, power 7/1.

****s sake coolmore, 1/2 the field and not a hint of really whats running etc, really detest the way they run the show.how can i make a book etc Grin, they really have destroyed the ante post market
Report roobuck • May 22, 2012 7:25 AM BST
tucho - Hannon jnr said on ATR that this race the plan as long as the ground dries up, which according to the forecast, will be the case.

Personally as much as he is an admirable horse just cannot see him being fast enough over a mile
Report sintonian • May 22, 2012 8:51 AM BST
There is also a Group 3 sprint on the same card which has Power,Crusade,Nephrite in. But it is hard to imagine Power wont run in this. Nehprite could go for the sprint against older horses, possibly?
Report paddywhacker1970 • May 22, 2012 9:26 AM BST
Surely Nephrite won't run?
Report layingisthewayforward • May 22, 2012 12:48 PM BST
Just missed Hermival's trainer on Get On... Did he say he is an intended runner? If so, 6/1 with Joe looks big.
Report elisjohn • May 22, 2012 1:06 PM BST
not sure if he,ll like the drying ground though, laying but agree big price
Report roobuck • May 22, 2012 1:23 PM BST
Missed that as well. Did he say he was a definite runner?

Yes a definate runner is Hermival.
Report sintonian • May 22, 2012 2:15 PM BST
As is Foxtrot Romeo.
Report roobuck • May 22, 2012 2:37 PM BST
Thanks sint

elis I'm not sure that quicker ground would be against him, its just that he has only run on gs or worse. Trainer was always aiming him at Newmarket where you would have thought it was going to be quicker under normal circumstances.

Of course the ground may well have come right for Parish Hall but with proven G1 form this year, I think 6/1 Hermival is a great price

Also said Dragon Pulse was not right in France Guinease and heads to St.James Palace next start.

Daddy Long Legs has a huge stride and will love the Curragh, I'd be interested in him if he showed up, just hope they haven't sickened him bu running him twice on a surface that albeit he is bred for, he patently hates. he has a beautiful fast ground turf action.
Report roobuck • May 22, 2012 6:03 PM BST

Sorry but Newmarket is HQ LaughLaugh
Report neill d • May 22, 2012 6:42 PM BST
Grin Sorry I forgot myself but I'd say he'll get away with it if he is quick enough to be handy. If he goes well here he could be interesting in the St James' Palace as i like a forward style around a bend. We'll get the weekend out of the way first though, who knows if he'll even show up.

Looks a cracker of an Ire 2000gns this Sat.
I like the chances of Power at 8.2 on here, looking at them all in there best bits of form, it could be a close call with a handfull of them, Power, Parish Hall, Hermival, Trumpet Major. Hot race if all line up.
Had a little bit on Power, for now, until the decks & ground is more clear.
Report elisjohn • May 22, 2012 9:24 PM BST
power will be no more than 5.0 on the day
Report andrewbjm • May 23, 2012 3:20 PM BST
looks a very nice race in prospect, shame we didnt have the likely good ground back at nmkt.

has there been any noises as to the jockey arrangements for the oxx pair? hard decision for johnny murtagh, born to sea looked a future class act on his debut, finished lame when beaten next time, and then he was too keen along with the ground not ideal at nmkt so wasnt knocked about.

takar has been very impressive his past couple of runs.

both could still be anything. on breeding, takar should certainly be suited by a stiff mile and possible may even get a bit further in time. born to sea looks like a mile is as far as he'd want, not guaranteed to get a stiff mile, and could end up being one of those '7f' horses that are hard to place, as they aren't quite fast enough for sprints and don't get a truly run mile.
Report sintonian • May 23, 2012 4:19 PM BST
Johnny Murtagh is retained by the Aga Khan so he'll be on Takar. Possibly Fran Berry on BTS ?

Im hoping for a bold show from Power tbh although I have not actually backed him.

I have backed La Collina for the filles race though, eachway.
Report andrewbjm • May 23, 2012 4:26 PM BST
ah, forgot murtagh was retained by the aga khan, just thought he had first pick on the oxx horses.

just seen on sporting life anyway, pat smullen gets the ride on BTS, who sports a first time hood.

Finding the plunge on Parish Hall for this race a little confusing.

So Bolger considers him one of the best he has trained and they may turn out to be the case. But he was adamant after the Dewhurst that he saw him as more of a Derby horse, though to be fair he did plan on running at Newmarket given favourable conditions. If he had I am sure he would have gone straight to the Derby and not taken in this race as well.

Either he is unsure of what the horse's best distance will be so he is running in this race just in case, or perhaps he is keen to get any prep in prior to the Derby. I actually think a better bet for this horse is actually the Derby e/w NRNB - for those who can get it.

As far as this race is concerned, it is incredibly open. Can easily see both Power and BTS putting in much better efforts than at Nmkt and see that the 6s about Hermival has now gone. Will have another look at decs and if Hermival does get back to that type of price ( unlikely I know )then I will play or I shall leave the race alone otherwise.
Report sintonian • May 23, 2012 5:13 PM BST
What puts me off about Parish Hall, is, as you say Roobuck, the fact he has missed an intended target already. The last 10 winners of this race had all had a run that season.

And even if it is used a prep, surely time has run out to be sending him to the Derby now?
Report roobuck • May 23, 2012 5:37 PM BST
I though one of the most telling things he said was that hopefully he won't have too hard a race on Saturday. If he is going to win it will be a hard race unless he is Frankel/STS rolled into one and wins in 2nd gear.

I wouldn't be interested in PH for Derby without the NRNB concession and so it may well be in my favour I cannot get on to see how he runs on Saturday first.
Report andrewbjm • May 23, 2012 6:12 PM BST
agreed. surely a hard race and the toil of travelling over here for the derby within a week is asking a lot for him to run well at epsom let alone have the petrol left to fly up the home straight and win.

might be best to have a look at him in running, as if he is definitely going to epsom can't see him being asked to do too much if his chance seems to be gone.

If you go back to the famous New Approach Derby affair , you may recall Bolger saying that the Irish 2000G was a greater priority for him than the Derby before he subsequently changed his mind when NA came out of the Curragh so well that he ended up running in both. Make no mistake , Bolger has won the Epsom Derby but never won the Irish 2000G and he would dearly love to win it as the New Approach story illustrates. Ordinarily , horses struggle to back up in big races off a week break but these normal 'rules' do not apply to horses trained at Coolcullen , anyone remember Finsceal Beo and Banimpire ? JSB has got where he is by breaking every convention going so never say never !
Report sintonian • May 24, 2012 10:07 AM BST
Yeah, he basically ruins his horse with one season. How often do you see him with a decent older horse?

Power finished strongly to win the Abu Dhabi Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh for Aidan and Joseph O'Brien.

A bitter disappointment in the English equivalent at Newmarket on his reappearance, the son of Oasis Dream looked in trouble here as stablemates Daddy Long Legs and Wrote set a fierce early pace and threatened not to come back to the field.

It was inside the distance that the former finally cried enough and the 5-1 winner went to the front to win from Bryan Smart's Foxtrot Romeo (33-1) who ran a huge race in second.

Reply (25-1) was third for the Ballydoyle team.

Richard Hannon's Trumpet Major was sent off the 9-4 favourite but never looked dangerous, while Sea The Stars half-brother Born To Sea ran on to make good late headway behind the principals.

Power is owned by the Coolmore team and John Magnier said: "The ground makes a big difference to him. He didn't have to have fast ground last year, but he'd been working well since we got good ground and he just got stuck in the mud at Newmarket.

"It looked like Daddy Long Legs would win but I think Power has to be ridden to come late, I think that's something they have learnt about him."

The winning rider said: "They went a very good gallop and my horse was nice and relaxed. I was creeping away down the rail and I had plenty of cover. I didn't want to get to the front too soon and the lads were a long way in front.

"I wasn't sure if I was going to get to them but in fairness, he quickened up very well when I needed him.

"Daddy Long Legs is a confirmed front runner, he loves making the running and he stays very well. He was always handy in Dubai and he made the running when he won in Newmarket last year.

"He went a nice pace and Wrote is an uncomplicated horse and I just wanted to take my time on my fella and when I knew there was going to be a nice gallop on, I didn't mind doing that.

"He stuck to it to the line. It is a big advantage to have a look through the form and see where the pace is coming from.

"I have to thank Ryan Moore, he rode the horse at Newmarket and in fairness, he said he felt like a good horse for the first part of the race and he just didn't come down the hill on the ground.

"He said that he thought this fella was the one so a big thanks to him. He's a classy horse and he has plenty of speed."

The victorious handler was thrilled to add to his wins in the English 1000 and 2000 Guineas earlier this month.

"I'm delighted, what can I say. I'm privileged and delighted," said O'Brien senior.

"We were very happy with Power last year. At Newmarket it was his first run of the year on very soft ground and Ryan rang during the week and just said 'he felt like a serious horse during the first half of the race but then he lost in the second half of the race' and we put that down to maybe needing the run and the soft ground."Ryan was anxious that Joseph would ride him (from the other Ballydoyle runners) and how right he was. I'm delighted it worked out so well."

The O'Brien team also indicated Daddy Long Legs could now go for the Secretariat Stakes at Arlington in America after hanging on for fourth.

Sea The Stars' half-brother Born To Sea ran on to make good late headway behind the principals and eventually took fifth for trainer John Oxx.

Jockey Pat Smullen said: "I was very pleased with him. The number one objective was to get him to settle but once he did, I was too far behind.

"Hopefully he will progress and I think he has the ability to be a nice horse once he starts doing things right."

Richard Hannon's Trumpet Major was sent off the 9-4 favourite but finished last of the 10 runners and was later reported to be coughing.
