alot of money now for the 2000 guineas but very weak for the derby indicating they think it may not stay the trip and the 2000 guineas is now the target

He will stay the Derby trip. If you wanted to breed a Derby horse this would be it. I think they will probs be greedy and try to win the Guineas but I think he will get outpaced as a 3yo over the mile trip like all Montjeu's do.

The punter walked into a Betfred shop in Rochdale this afternoon and placed a £100,000 bet on Camelot at 3/1 with Betfred to win the QIPCO 2000 Guineas in just over a month’s time. Betfred were top-price on Aidan O’Brien’s colt before the bet was struck but understandably the Warrington-based firm have now cut the Racing Post Trophy winner to 9/4. “Camelot couldn’t have been more impressive when taking last year’s Racing Post Trophy but I’m happy to take the punter on as history is littered with impressive juveniles who fail to step up to the mark in their classic season,” said Betfred chairman Fred Done. Top Offer is the 8/1 second-favourite for the 2000 Guineas with Betfred with the trio of Harbour Watch, Most Improved and Nephrite all next in the market at 10/1. |

apologies sinfin, i dont mean to appear disrepectful towards your judgement. hes a v good horse no doubt about that and there really doesnt appear to be a lot of strength and depth (at this moment). i was just basing my opinion on his pedigess and the fact that montjeu has never produced a g1 winning 3yr old over a mile. u know as well as me stats are there to be broken, just couldnt fancy him at the prices.

Doubting Camelot for the Guineas due to his sire is not really a stat based doubt. It is logical. Montjeu was a top class middle distance horse who naturally tends to produce middle distance horses. In order to give him a chance of siring a miler, perhaps a sprinting mare might have been chosen, but Camelot's mare doesn't fit the bill, and there have to be serious doubts about whether he will have the speed. This race is wide open, and I'm hoping we might see the most interesting set of trials for years. The Greenham should be right back in fashion now after 4 of the best milers in Europe over the last 2 years have come first and second in each of the last 2 renewals. The Craven could do with a bit more of a boost but it looks as if we might see Top Offer v Most Improved. Bring it on!

howellsy, yes would be great to see guineas horses go for the trials, oh for the days of salsabil fred darling, rodrigo de triano greenham, though he lost, oh so sharp nellgwyn, dancing brave the craven,mystiko the free hcap, zafonic the french trial, those days the trials was looked forward to as much as the guineas itself, ,

Elisjohn, I really think we might see the best Craven in years this year - although you don't have to go that far back to recall twice Over v ravens pass.
