Ever since his win over 3.5 at sandown early in the season i've had this in mind for the national. They experimented stepping him up to this trip and he was a very good winner when powering away up the run in staying on very strongly.
He has a good few things in his favour, firstly he has back class with a rating high of 166 winning a charlie hall and a good run in the ryanir but now races off 154, he is a smooth traveller usually in his races which is crucial at aintree. He loves fast ground and runs well fresh, his age of 11 is a bit of a negative but in the last 20 years 6 have won at that age or 12 and his weight of around 11-4ish isn't the curse it once was.
Used to like this horse a lot but very doubtful that he truly stays in spite of the Sandown race. Handicapper had dropped him a long way for his return to handicaps (17lb from his peak) and I think he just outclassed them in what was a very slowly run race.

sint i don't think it is really a negative,if i didn't mention his age then that would have been the comeback from detractors stating that 11 year old isn't the ideal age, so i was getting in first with the acknowledegement and then with defense.
