Myself and a few forumites have been trying to improve our skills as odds compilers (hoping to be better at spotting value prices on here) for a number of months now. Every weekend we price up 1 or 2 races to 100% without looking at bookmaker or betting exchange prices.
Everyone involved then sends an email with their books for these races to me by midnight each Friday, and I compile a master list (anonymous) with an average price for each horse using everyone's prices. I then add in the current prices available on Betfair and point out the discrepancies (which hopefully suggests where some value might lie).
Of course we all get prices wrong sometimes but the process has made us all much better at pricing horses up than we were to begin with. Anyway, now we have moved into the jumps season instead of the Flat a few of the Flat fans have dropped out. This means we need 2-3 more people who want to be a part of it.
All you need to do is be able to commit to pricing up the 1 or 2 races each week and try to be as subjective as possible (no peeking at bookies' prices). Don't feel that you would be embarrassed if you get the prices wrong - a lot of us are virtual novices. I usually choose good races (I'll never suggest we price up a 0-90 handicap chase at Sedgefield) but avoid the absolute top ones as it is invariably hard to avoid seeing prices for these in advance. As an example, this weekend we will likely price up the Coral Hurdle and Carey Group Handicap Chase at Ascot to avoid the Betfair Chase and Amlin Chase, which will attract most of the attention over the next few days.
If anyone wants to join, and is serious about it, just let me know on here. Obviously there are times when you can't give your time to this, but for consistency and organisational purposes it is greatly appreciated if people do it many more weekends than not after getting involved.
I'll send a private message on here to the first three people who reply with some contact details and instructions for this coming weekend. We'll also get a thread going on here for those involved to comment/ask questions to each other about how and why they differ on certain horses. It is very educational!
