I would doubt both Twice Over and Midday will run. Middays target is the Yorkshire Oaks is it not?
Any chance Coolmore won't have a runner? Thoe only logical choice would now seem a test of Await the Dawn at the highest level in what is unlikely to be the strongest renewal ever.
Report tobermory August 3, 2011 9:14 PM BST
Coolmore would have the pick of the foal crop one year and then Juddmonte would have first choice the following year.

In 2007 Coolmore chose Await The Dawn and the following year Juddmonte elected to keep Frankel...

Imagine the hype about the horse if Coolmore had picked him [;)]
Report elisjohn August 4, 2011 7:14 AM BST
what about zoffany for this, i expected him to be in the sussex to be honest, has he run since finishing 3rd in france in the strong suit race bout 4 weeks ago      ,
Report A_T August 4, 2011 9:47 AM BST
Ballydoyle say Zoffany is running over 6f at Deauville this weekend.
Report SoYouThink August 4, 2011 10:22 AM BST
Yeah looks like Zoffany will clash with Dream Ahead in the Prix Maurice De Gheest on Sunday.

Anne-Marie O'Brien also tweeted that Recital will run again in 4-6 weeks. Guess he might be trained for the Arc? 4-6 weeks might indicate Prix Niel target anyway.
Report elisjohn August 4, 2011 10:43 AM BST
isnt zoffany worth a try over further
Report rubyisgodinthesaddle August 4, 2011 11:58 AM BST
Zoffany with a proper ride might actually win a Group 1.

Moore was terrible in France last time.
Report hippie August 4, 2011 1:01 PM BST
Planteur is going to run in the Jacques le Marois so scrub him from the Juddmonte.
Report caward August 4, 2011 1:24 PM BST
Very possible Cecil will run both, wanted to run her in the King George but got overuled. by the way has 2 of his most promising juveniles running in next couple of days, Wrotham Heath (tomorrow) & Stipulate (Sunday) Noble Mission may run at Newmarket tomorrow week.
Report sintonian August 4, 2011 3:18 PM BST
who would TPQ pick ?

It is actually the first season this season that Cecil has allowed Midday to run against Colts. Last season he would not entertain the idea.

For which horse, Twice Over or Midday, would winning the International be more valuable ?
Report hippie August 4, 2011 3:32 PM BST
winning the International wouldn't enhance Midday's value because any progeny she produces Abdulla is going to keep (he also bred her).
Report elisjohn August 4, 2011 3:40 PM BST
why run both in same race when sir henry could win both races as it seems with lack of creditable runners in opposition
Report hippie August 4, 2011 3:42 PM BST
Await the Dawn is a more than credible opponent and goes off favourite against anything except So You Think.
Report sintonian August 4, 2011 4:02 PM BST
AWD wins, agree, if he runs. Im just hoping there is some reasonable opposiion. If both Cecil horses run we should at least be looking at 6/4,imo.
Report elisjohn August 4, 2011 4:46 PM BST
hippie, i said lack of creditable, i didnt say any, though i do agree awd wins if he runs

What about Dunlop avoiding a clash with Midday again and siding with this race with Snow Fairy
Report tobermory August 4, 2011 8:49 PM BST
Could be a good idea, the Yorkshire Oaks is looking like being the stronger race
Report SoYouThink August 4, 2011 9:48 PM BST
Snow Fairy needs a big field and lots of pace to be at her best.

Yorkshire Oaks is likely to similiar to the Nassau Stakes, though the extra 2f would be more to Snow Fairy's liking.

The Arc is one race where I'd like to see Snow Fairy. Any chance she might go there?
Report tobermory August 4, 2011 9:56 PM BST
He only ran Ouija Board in it once didn't he? Doubt he thinks SF is good enough
Report D Route V E Bleu August 4, 2011 10:13 PM BST
Not sure about The Arc but agree re needing faster pace etc.So unlikely she'll run it. i'd think about it though Ed? Group 2 only winner as evens fav?
Report A_T August 4, 2011 10:26 PM BST
ATD way too short - 12f horse IMO. Twice Over is a specialist at this distance. Would take Midday to beat ATD but expect she'll go to the Yorkshire Oaks. What about Frankel? He's still in the race at the moment.
Report caward August 4, 2011 10:37 PM BST
I think Tom would choose Twice Over on his best form, think going to Dubai messed him up but back to his best now, good chance Midday will run as well as she as nothing to prove against her own sex and the fact that Juddmonte sponser the race Abdulla might want to give himself a fighting chance to win his own race, by the way Await The Dawn Juddmonte Bred.
Report hippie August 5, 2011 11:28 AM BST
ATD is a 10f horse. The only reason he ran in the Hardwicke was because So You Think was running in the Prince of Wales, the same reason Cape Blanco ran in the Queen Anne.
Report resner not lesnar August 5, 2011 11:35 AM BST
Caward, if queally had to choose I think it would be midday. Sure I've seen an interview recently where he said that midday was the best horse he'd sat on until frankel came along. I still think midday would only run if twice over doesn't. Why would Cecil run both when he could win both races by splitting them
Report El Apache August 5, 2011 11:45 AM BST

Looking through his form , can anyone point out any proven G1 performers that he has beaten.

Seems to be a lot of hype.
Report Dooberama August 5, 2011 11:55 AM BST
ATD had won a group 2 and two group 3s very easily.  Suggesting he is probably good enough to win this group 1 is hardly hype.  It doesn't even look that strong a group 1.
Report hippie August 5, 2011 12:26 PM BST
ATD has been pulled from the Royal Whip Stakes. He must be coming.
Report hippie August 5, 2011 12:32 PM BST
ATD - 2.12, So You Think - 8.4
Report caward August 5, 2011 12:37 PM BST
Cecil ran 2 in the Nassau last saturday so don't see that being a problem, also has Vita Nova entered in Yorkshire Oaks and at this moment in time she is a runner as regards Queally's pick of Midday & Twice Over might be down to sentiment.
Report resner not lesnar August 5, 2011 2:38 PM BST
Its not out of the question that they both run in the juddmonte Caward, but it's a different situation than the Nassau for me. Here you have two grp 1 horses and two grp 1 races, with a good chance of winning both. I wouldn't have principal  role down as a grp 1 horse, at least not a consistent performer at that level. I think they ran her as well just in case midday under performed again and perhaps because there was little else for her.
Report tomdeane August 6, 2011 12:39 AM BST
Will Rio de la Plata go?

Never been my idea of a real Group One horse but as has been said, it is quite possible that a good Group Two beast could pick this prize up in 2011. Although a lot of his form is in foreign races, he looks a very solid 118-120-horse to me and could be a bit of value if it's a small field and he sits handy. Am guessing he is not going but wondered if anyone had heard differently?
Report cryoftruth August 6, 2011 1:40 PM BST
A lot of money fro Frankel - I have just laid at 4 on here.

If Frankel does run. Await The Dawn will be available to back at 8/1 or something. Not that this would be good value against Frankel.

Report cryoftruth August 7, 2011 3:16 PM BST

I have battled personally against a number of "modernisations" at York, including a prolonged campaign against the abolition of the old Silver Ring - still an appalling disgrace. I was in the campaign against the 4 day Ebor festival and was dead against (letters in papers etc etc) the Saturday Ebor.

All the above changes made the whole york Ebor meeting far worse for a real racing fan. After all that its still the best race meeting of the year, bar none.

I always used to go for the whole 3 days in the early-mid nineties and might have agreed with you then, but haven't been since 2001. All the changes to the course (why don't they stay on the inside rail up the straight anymore?) the 4th day, plus the swarms of pissed up lads and lasses have utterly ruined it.

I thought that was an odd one, trying Zoffany out over 6 1/2f when the last twice he's shaped like a miler.  Unsurprisingly, he wasn't able to get close today, but then a horse that has come from the back in all his best runs was always gonna struggle to do that against hardened sprinters

Report resner not lesnar August 10, 2011 3:09 PM BST
This will be ATD's toughest test yet, you couldn't say that about Midday so at about 7/2 I still think she's a decent price. Is Sri Putra due to run? Has been running decent races against better horses than this.
Report TheFormMan August 10, 2011 6:30 PM BST

He has not done anything that you wouldn't expect his rivals here to do easily, betting should be close between the principals.

Sorry but cannot give ROC a chance in this. Has run poorly 3 out of 4 times this season and won an awful Irish 2,000. Oracle finished a close up 3rd! I can't see that he has improved a pound from 2 to 3 and can't see him being allowed to bowl along as they have a pacemaker who is likely to try and make it a proper test for ATD.

I backed the Cecil pair last week and give them a great chance against a fav who is far too short for what he has achieved imo.
