SECRET ASSET Has a shocking record on turf having not won for four years on the surface but has run some blinders in defeat. Dropped to a mark he can exploit now; his sixth in last seasons Stewards' Cup show he handles the course and wouldn't rule out completely.
JUDGE ‘N JURY Continues to give a good account of himself but hasn't had his head in front for two years now. Another solid effort two days ago at Ascot behind Medicean Man but likely others have the ability to go past him once more.
FATHOM FIVE Bit disappointing so far for Dandy Nicholls this season but fifth in Epsom Dash showed promise and now sits below last three winning marks. Fast downhill tracks are his forte so his first trip to Goodwood could light him up again.
SOAP WARS Never won a race of this class since being switched to the UK from Ireland but did bolt up in style at Windsor earlier in the year. This sharp 5f track might be to his liking and dangerous to rule out as once rated 95 in his prime.
ROCKET ROB Remains on a fair mark based on his achievements last campaign and another who is surprisingly (given his liking for fast downhill tracks) making his first visit to Goodwood. Interesting contender.
NOODLE BLUE BOY Holding his form really well and is a model of consistency once again this season, as was the case last. Entitled to be right in the thick of things once more although the draw could have been kinder.
VERINCO No let up from the handicapper at present after string of places efforts similar to Noodles Blue Boy. This race probably tougher again and while he is in grand form others are preferred.
SUTTON VENY One win on turf does little to inspire confidence but booking of Ryan Moore a positive (3rd on him two starts ago). Done most racing over slightly further though and chance they might just go shade too quick for him today.
ADMIRABLE DUCHESS Only beaten a shd on both starts over this CD and taking a sharp rise up the ladder at present. This type of test clearly suits her and she must rate a solid each way chance; this toughest test to date.
CURTAINS In slightly wayward form at the minute and rarely runs over the minimum trip, so slight worry about him being able to go the pace. Draw not ideal and more the negatives than positives to get excited about.
ARGANIL Looks as though still retains ability after dropping down the weights quite a bit in recent times. Stable remain bang in form but doubts remain if this type of test up his street; best form with give in the ground.
LA FORTUNATA Is a big fan of Epsom so likely to enjoy her outing here today and third in the Dash puts her bang in contention in this. Widest draw of all hasn't helped matters but fully entitled to be respected as was progressing well last season.
MAZE Won well last time out at Sandown on first try over 5f and only up 3lbs for that success. That was in race for elders though so back against the younger brigade in higher class of race might prove his undoing.
INVINCIBLE LAD Hasn't shown his best form so far this term but only fourth start for Dandy and has run very well here before when a close third in this two years ago off 6lbs higher. Booking of Hanagan eye catching and has ability to go close.
HIGH SPICE Was a decent two year old and is on a tempting mark now for her ability. Finished well on last start after being tardy leaving gates; can't afford to do that today but first time visor could sharpen her up as first time cheekpieces did last year.
BRYNFA BOY Plied his trade in lower grade affairs than this but enjoyed success on only trip to Epsom so track here likely to suit. Just 2lbs higher than for last win but others look better treated in today's contest.
BOOGIE WALTZER Decent efforts here over CD in the past (one win; one third) and comes into this in good form after a close second at Epsom. Whether quite up to this standard remains to be seen though and 4lbs higher than last win.
ESTONIA Awful effort every time tried on turf and runs from 8lbs out of the handicap here today. Difficult to find anything positive to say about his chances in tough looking contest.
SUMMARY
A wide-open contest. The fact they are going 9/1 the field suggests it may be time to get the pin out and hope for the best. However, there are few pointers to look at and one of those is that there should be a furious gallop on upfront with a number of confirmed front-runners in the field. That could set the race up for one coming from off the pace and both Fathom Five and Rocket Rob deserve major respect. Looking for some value at bigger prices though it’s the pair of INVINCIBLE LAD and HIGH SPICE that make some appeal. This race has been kind to Dandy Nicholls and Invincible Lad is similar in profile to his winner last year, Hamoody. Having only his fourth start for the stable here he returns to the same race that saw him finish a close third to Blue Jack in 2009. The booking of Hanagan looks significant and trainer and jockey teamed up to take this with Continent a few years ago. While the Robert Cowell trained High Spice comes here after a fast finishing fifth at Ascot two weeks ago. She appears to be hitting form at the right time now and is 2lbs below her last winning turf mark. First time cheekpieces worked the oracle last term so the fitting of the visor looks promising to sharpen her up and the booking of Jim Crowley looks positive as he rides this track well and has two wins from three starts on the filly.

Good write up, I agree with Invincible Lad -Dandy Nicholl's horses were under a bit of a cloud when he ran poorly at Musselburgh (his recent winner Jarrow ran in the same race and was also beaten miles), so I can forgive that run, and Newcastle's stiff 6f didn't suit the time before that. He looked like a winner waiting to happen on his debut for the yard and he looks handicapped to strike today.

Very tricky race. I plumped for the wrong pair in the end as Secret Asset ran out a good winner. High Spice fell out of the stalls and blew her chance again, while Invincible Lad was running on and will certainly pick up one of these at some stage.
Anyway, good stuff. Onto Saturday and the two sprints there :)
