I don't pretend to know anything the breeding industry but if I was shelling out the sort of money they pay I'd want some sort of guarantee or insurance.

I'd also imagine that studs wouldn't give live foal guarantees to every hobbyist with more money than sense whereas if the mare had been a group 1 winner that sort of guarantee may have been more forthcoming.

You've finally realised the quote had nothing to do with the argument although now you're confusing yourself with the value of the mare. It doesn't matter to the stud whether the mare is a group 1 winner or a seller, the sperm costs the same.

A newspaper article is too little information to speculate the ins-and-outs of this case but I can see where the "hobbyist" is coming from. Many studs do offer live foal guarantees covering the eventuality of the death of the mare or the foal (hence the wiki entry). If Coolmore don't then whoever signed the contract on Con's behalf should have made him aware of that before committing him to the deal.

It does matter to the stud whether the mare is a Group 1 winner or a seller.
That was my point and to think otherwise is just wrong. Take the seller to the stud and you'll be paying full list price, take the G1 winning mare there and they'll be falling over themselves to get the mare covered by one of theirs.

This case will surely be settled by the contract anyway.

God only knows, O'Brien really likes to play these mind games about which races, which jockey, wouldnt suprise me if he turns out for the KG whilst hes running well then takes a break before either an Arc, BC or Cox plate.

He is obviously not goin to the King George as he isn't a strong stayer over that trip. He will turn up at York or the Irish Champion.
