KALDOUN KINGDOM
Grand horse who hasn't been seen at his best over the past 12 months. Down to 1lb lower than last winning mark now and if ability remains then clearly has a chance. Big ask though.

COLONEL MAK
Found life a bit tough since landing Ayr Silver Cup last term but not disgraced at HQ last start in hot race. The quick ground on his first try over the minimum trip is a worry and others slightly preferred today.

DOCTOR PARKES
In the form of his life at present and only just denied a hat trick of wins in a very competitive York event on latest start. Has a good draw today and the assistance of the champion jockey. Big chance.

CHEVETON
Class act on his day but usually comes to life when getting the wetter conditions he enjoys in the Autumn time. Might just need to shed a few pounds too before being seen at his absolute best.

BEFORTYFOUR
Way behind Doctor Parkes when down the field at York two starts back and just 1lb better off than on that day due to a close 2nd in a Beverley conditions race. Hard to see him reversing the form.

BURNING THREAD
Something clearly amiss at present after finishing plum last on his previous three starts. Hard to enthuse about his chances based on those efforts and probably best watched until spark is back.

STRIKING SPIRIT
Interesting recruit to the Easterby yard after leaving Dandy. Clearly up to winning race of this nature on his day and 2nd in this last year off 1lb higher. The quick ground will be to his liking and he makes each way appeal.

FAVOURITE GIRL
Had a solid campaign last year when winning four times and has started this term brightly without getting her head in front. Trip and ground not an issue so no reason why she can't run another sound race.

RACY
Big eye catcher at York three weeks ago when badly hampered and flying home to take third (free to the start also) on first run for new stable. Lightly raced and full of promise, he should be winning soon for the Ryan yard. Shortlisted.

COURAGEOUS
Not seen at his best on both starts this year for Dandy but ended last season well and looked one to follow. Interesting to see visor now back on and 3lb claim from the jockey will help matters. Can't dismiss.

ARCHERS ROAD
Possibly still feeling the effects of a tough two-year-old campaign as yet to be seen at his best this season. His dropping mark and the fact he has run well here before offers encouragement but should find one or two too good again today.

SECRET MILLIONAIRE
One from one here at the track and performed with great credit so far this term in tough races. Wouldn't be out of the question for a bold showing today and cannot be ruled out.

FOL HOLLOW
Once very talented and has an ideal draw today. Hasn't shown the same level of gusto in recent times as in the past and doesn't come into this in the best of form. Conditions should suit but needs to raise his game.

HAZELRIGG
Shown signs he was on the way back to something near his best when fifth at York behind Masamah latest and back to mark he can win off. Decent draw should help his cause further and has each way appeal.

THE NIFTY FOX
All wins off lower marks than today and on slower ground; coupled with the worst draw of all he is set a tricky task and might have to settle for a place at best today.

GINGER TED
Decent win last time when touching off The Nifty Fox ten days ago. But again he is one who thrives more on a slower surface and isn't one to trust based on his form after his previous wins.

VERINCO
Big ask stepping up three grades than for all previous successes and it'd take a huge level of improvement to stop some of these beating him despite solid track record.

SUMMARY

A decent renewal of this contest but it has two clear stand out performers in the shape DOCTOR PARKES and RACY, and they head the market. It’s tough to split them based on their respective York efforts. The former is in tremendous heart at present and while he continues to rise up the weights he has been handed the better draw of the two. On the flipside, the latter is very much one to keep an eye on and remains unexposed. So while it may not be the most profitable race it can pay to follow the front two.

With stalls 12, 13 & 14 Finishing nearly 4 lengths clear of the 4th (drawn 11 Laugh ) in today's Consolation race I believe it would take a serious performance for Racy to get competitive from Stall 5. A pity as he was taken out of the Epsom dash a while ago suggesting this was always the plan. Doctor Parkes has a great draw and, as noted by Hanagan in his ATR blog, he has been allowed to get off Kldoun Kingdom.

Not a great price even at the early 11/2 but if the draw bias holds he looks a serious bet.
