Cosmic Sun is looking a live outsider when you consider;
Cosmic Case his dam won 18 races over 8years and won over 2m on the flat, and even won her own race "Enjoy Your Retirement, Cosmic Case" Handicap Hurdle over 3m1/2f
Beaubrav, the horse he quickened past first time out at Lingfield had previously won his last 2 races easily, and won his next 2 easily (comfortably, soon in command), and has gone from a rating of 67 to 96
You could say Red Cadeaux ran a great race last time out and he was a bit lonely out in front, but he had a low gate and has only a 2lb turn around. Alright you may say Cosmic Sun had a previous race but he had a bad draw and was outpaced in the rear, yet ended up winning going away in the Rosebery Handicap in a course record.
When you think of his Royal Ascot King George V Stakes and subsequent win at York in 2009, he was well handicapped when he won off 82 last year at Ayr- won grittily from outstanding front running ride, sprinted and kicked on in the straight beating Royal Swain, who won his next race. Up until then he had showed nothing in 6 starts, although he had run well at Chester (and had run well there before as a 2yo over 7f).
His owners are 2 from 9 at Chester in the last 5 seasons and his half sister Cosmic Moon won there first time out last year, and previously they had Mister Hardy who won the rich Grosvenor Stakes Heritage Handicap at the course in May 2009.
He was consistent during his peak period in 2009 and has won his last two races, and has a good weight, and when you about this;
“Even though he won at Ayr last September, I was never really happy with him. He had his wind operated on for a second time during the winter and has won both his races since, including the Rosebery at Kempton. We're thinking of running him in the Chester Cup .We're not sure he'll stay, but he'll have an entry” Richard Fahey
Just a quick heads up for next week as Cosmic Sun looks a huge price in the Chester Cup. If he stays he'll take a bit of beating and on breeding I think he'll get the trip. His dam won over three miles and his sire's Helissio and they stay all day.
He won a Roseberry over 1m4f which is too sharp for him but they went flat out and it suited him. He's in really good form and if he gets a good draw and he picks up like we know he can he'll take all the beating.

Mr Fahey owns Halla San, so you would think he would withdraw the horse if he thought Cosmic Sun has a better chance, although HS was only beaten a length off 97 last year and 1/2 a length the year before off 95?

I don't know mate. He said in his new Sporting Life column that Cosmic Sun has a right good chance. I took his word for it and placed a decent bet. I've lost enough as it is at the weekend.

as he is a reserve...means he was declared for the race...but can only not run because the max field size does'nt allow it...
antepost on here or with bookies....are refunded in this case

Can't see Fahey taking Halla San out to let Cosmic in. HS is 3 and 4lb better off with last years 1st & 2nd but having not won for 3 years could do with a few more pounds off imo.
He might just win so they don't put him back over hurdles though!

Trev one firm paid out, and sky bet eventually paid out once i explained about the horse being balloted out. I think they're going to adjust the system to refund others, so cheers. Pitty about Admiral Barry grrrrrrr....
