Just looking at some stats on Bin Suroor's record since his last win in each race.

He won the 1000 Guineas in 2002 with Kazzia. Since then he has had 11 runners with form figures of:

16, 13, 13, 4, 10, 17, 2, 6, 10, 12, 14.

Not great is it?

Looking at his results in the 2000 Guineas since winning it with Island Sands in 1999:

9, 13, 10, 19, 14, 5, 9, 2, 14, 10, 20, 14, 16, 19, 9, 14, 16, 4, 16, 20.

Can someone please tell me how he is still in a job? Maybe the Guineas (1000&2000) just aren't a priority for Godolphin anymore? It would be strange if that was the case.

You certainly won't find me backing anything of theirs this year.

Bloody hell, that will take me ages! Laugh

I might have a look tomorrow. It would be interesting to see which meeting/races they target from the Guineas meeting onwards though.

What i'm saying is criticising the trainers record for this race should be backed up with more reaching facts than just stating where they finished. For example Al Zir last season was 16/1 and ran to his mark i think most would say, in a trip that doesn't suit. You've incorporated last years race in to your argument without taking individual races on their merit.

I posted the stats for the Guineas only. It was you who brought up future performances! Confused

His recent record in both of the Guineas are abysmal. That was the purpose of the opening post. The facts are there. In the last 12 years of the 2000 Guineas, he has had 1 horse in the first 3. That's poor by anyones standards.

The stats suggest that either SBS is a poor judge of a horses ability or just cannot get a horse ready for the big occasion early on.

4 out of the last 50 UK Classic winners for SBS. Hopefully with Shamardal and Dubawi now supplying the ammunition we will see an improvement in the next few years.

He hasn't lost his job but another job has been created- Al Zarooni.

Looking at the 3yos he's got under his control one wonders if that side of the operation is now predominantly his.

We'll see.

I hope Al Zarooni can improve on SBS's record. Not a good start though with Buzzword 14th in last years 2000 Guineas.

Godolphin haven't had a decent 1000 candidate since 2002( most of them were either not good enough or needed further) but they have this year. I wouldnt let those stats put you off White Moonstone who has an outstanding chance. Plus Al Zarooni's stable has got off to a flyer this season
Report Shrew D April 20, 2011 8:16 AM BST
I was amazed with the number of horses in that list that turned out to be complete dross. Only 3 of the 31 runners above went on to win a G1 race. The rest picked up a G3 at best.

It just shows their current tactics of snapping up decent 2yo's to be some sort of admittance of their failure.

bosra shame, wouldn't you say the vast majority of them weren't good enough?
Report jonibake April 20, 2011 8:37 AM BST
I think we may find out that there is a distinction between SBS and MAZ whose horses look incredibly fit. I would agree that White Moonstone has an outstanding chance and wouldnt be put off by trainer. Would be a different matter if it was SBS.
Report sintonian April 21, 2011 10:06 AM BST
the most interesting thing about them stats is the class of race they went onto win after the Guineas, particularly the Colts. It looks to suggest they weren't that good imo, and SBS seems to do mildy better with the fillies he has run, from a smaller set of horses.

White Moonstone should have a cracking chance, but still no news from yard.

She is on the drift today too. Starting to get a little twitchy [:(]
Report sintonian April 21, 2011 10:11 AM BST
Could be something, could be nothing. There is just an appathy to back Godolphin runners in the Guineas these days so i'd not be overly concerned just yet tbh.
Report Graeme83 April 21, 2011 10:41 AM BST
I wouldn't bother about her price(wht moon). Someones only put 2 bob up, and i imagine nobody saying anything about the horse is a factor. There were good vibes about Laughing Lashes and she's a bigger price. I'd imagine her(LL) running might be ground dependent. It's crazy season on the flats. You get a price, followed by the lack of comments, then all the draw euphoria. Any horses we've backed could be plunged to the far rail.
