CORPORAL MADDOX
Has the assistance of the champion jockey here (who is an interesting booking), but hasn't appreciated the quick conditions in the past and may struggle with some of these today.

HOOF IT
A winner on four occasions last term on varying ground and likely to improve even more now as a four year old. Ended the season with a bang and Fallon keeps the ride; excellent draw and should go close.

OSTEOPATHIC REMEDY
On highest mark of career at the moment and done most of his winning over further than this and on easier going. Should be fitter for return run but hard to fancy in against some of these.

JUDD STREET
Grand campaigner who has won at least once every year since 2004. Fair effort on return this term, sure to improve for fitness and jockey two from three on him. Handy draw and dropped to low mark he can exploit.

FLIPANDO
Has served his connections superbly over the years and showed still retains sparkle when winning on the AW earlier in the year. Not out the question he could play a hand in the finish; but unlikely.

GREEN PARK
Is on a high mark at present after ending last season with a bang and does most of his winning these days with a bit of ease in the ground. Down the field on return to action and might need a drop down the weights as things stand.

TOMBI
Still lightly raced given his age and has form in the book to land this if on song today (twice won on seasonal debut in the past). New trainer could spark life back into him and with decent draw, handy mark and conditions to suit he could run well.

CROWN CHOICE
First attempt at sprint distances after showing very decent form over 7f/8f last term. Shows a solid strike rate first time out and this stiff 6f should probably suit. Lightly raced and cannot rule out a good run here.

WILDCAT WIZARD
Hasn't hit the heights yet for his new yard but the stable are going well and the first time blinkers here could bring about improvement. Draw hasn't been too kind though and others in better form.

INTERNATIONALDEBUT
Placed both starts he has had at this course and travelled beautifully two weeks ago before seeing an improver go by him on debut this term. Lower in weights than for last three wins, good draw and can go well even if hard to win with.

HAAJES
Does most of his winning on a softer surface and record first time out leaves a lot to be desired. No wins off this high a mark or over this distance and all signs point to something else winning here today.

TABARET
Not the easiest to predict and getting on in years now but showed a fair level of form at Beverley two weeks ago and back to last winning mark now. Could easily go well but hard to have supreme confidence in him.

DISCANTI
Remains 9lbs higher than last win and struggled when upped to this class on all tries last term. Returned with a good second at Ripon two weeks ago and one of the few in form. Awful draw though.

SUMMARY

A decent early season sprint but it may just lack some strength in depth and it’s hard to see HOOF IT not figuring in the finish somehow. He has an excellent draw and Fallon retains the ride after winning on him at the end of last season in a race that has worked out well; Noble Storm (2nd) hosed up in taking fashion at Newbury earlier in the week, while Waffle (5th) and Our Jonathan (7th) filled the places behind the ever improving Horseradish at Doncaster a few weeks ago. He starts this year on a high mark but should still have more to offer as a four year old. His price is short enough, but it might look big afterwards. Of the remainder Crown Choice shouldn’t be taken lightly after running in some tough handicaps over slightly further last term and Tombi has more talent than most of these on his day and might just enjoy himself here for his new stable.

SELECTIONS

Hoof It 2pts win @ 7/2
Tombi 0.5pt ew @ 10/1

Good work VK. I think Hoof It might be very good this season and will certainly have a few quid on. Crown choice may well benefit from the drop back in trip though and for me is the danger if fully tuned up (I may knock off work early and go to the course for a look). Tabaret looks ready to win, but I'm hoping he comes to my local track in a couple of weeks time and does it there.

thank you for the write up...........am also interested that Fallon has the ride on Markington for Peter Bowen in the stayers race, has won on the horse here before and he will be cherry ripe after running in Big bucks race at Aintree

Staying out of this one as not much appeals at the prices for me. Crown Choice would be a token pick as the trainer has sent horses with 7f form to win over this stiff 6 before.

Discanti will like the quick ground and has won on his 2nd run of the season before but had everychance to win last time out, imo.

Morning VK. Also liked Crown Choice and Tombi but went for a sleeper in Wildcat Wizard.
Crown Choice looks like he could make a decent sprinter and thought the Wokingham could be a possibility this year.

A very decent sprint this afternoon and the one that makes some appeal at the prices to me is Wildcat Wizard at 16/1. He actually managed to finish 20 of 20 last time ! when apprentice ridden which doesn't look all that inspiring, but I'm going to ignore that run. On his previous run at Wolverhampton he showed up well round the outside until weakening, which was his first run for six months and his first for his new stable.
His best form of 2010 when with Paul Cole gives him a solid chance today off 91.
Blinkers are applied today which will hopefully have a positive effect and Andrew Mullen takes the ride. He shows a very healthy profit when riding for the stable and feel at 16/1 he looks worth a try.
With the benefit of two runs he should be match fit which could well be an advantage over a number of todays runners and with some solid class 2 form from last year looks to have a decent chance.

WILDCAT WIZARD 1 POINT E/W AT 16/1 (BOG)

It is a tricky little puzzle despite the smallish field and it should be an interesting watch with future races in mind.

Good luck to everyone who is having a bet and it's good to see the debates and views from one and all Happy

Flipando gets it. Must be an owner dream that horses has won plenty during his career.

Kieren Fellon advised connections to take Hoof It out due to the ground.

A close up finish so hard to tell how strong the form is. Crown Choice was intentionally dropped in and produced late but instead of marking his performance up like the commentators on RUK thought, for me he could have won if he was good enough, imo.

Tombi was very weak on track so pehaps one for later in the season ? 5/1 out to 8/1 on betting shows.

I did Sint but I hadn't realised VK had done a right up for this race.

VK are you doing one for the sprint at Epsom tomorrow?

Have had a quick look at today and one horse that stands out is Cape Royal whose record over 5F at Epsom (excluding runs in the Dash on Derby day) is 132222121 including 2 wins in this race in previous years. He won here last August off a lower mark than today and has a good drawn.

Not sure about the draw. I know for certain that at the meeting in June a high draw is very important, but in the recent history of this race stall 2 has won twice in the last 4 years and stalls 1 & 2 were first and second last year.
I'm not sure what the reason for this is, perhaps less watering takes place in the spring, or perhaps 'spring' ground is more even?
Or perhaps the best horse has just been drawn in stall 2 on those winning years?
Its just a personal thing, but I'm not going to go overboard thinking a high draw is essential.

You may be right Leo, I think the reason a high draw is important in June is because in the dash they usually have 20 runners.

Michrich,
Do you by any chance follow 'Eddie The Shoe' on Twitter?

Old boy Cape Royal runs at Epsom tomorrow. His C&D record if you don't include 0000 in the Dash at Derby meeting reads 132222121.

No I don't, but maybe I should with such incisive and thoughtful reading of form like that.

Good luck in this.

Hmmm... Stall 5 beat stall 1. Hoss with the best pace won.

Very true Leo, Bertoliver made all last year in the dash. I think if you get to the front over 5F at Epsom it can be hard to get caught. Having just watched the replay the winner did end up next to the stands rail,  which seems to be favoured most of the time, which is probably why there is a bias in big fields.

I've just come back from a few days away hence my absense from this thread.

It was really a shame that Hoof It was withdrawn from the Ponty race. I think he would have taken the world of beating. I didn't get a chance to look at the Epsom event as I was away but I've just seen it now and Spencer did well on the winner, sent him out in front and never looked back.

Next big sprint is the one at Newmarket on 1000 Guineas day!
