I must say, I have a strong feeling that this colt could turn out to be very smart indeed. So much so that I have had a small dabble at silly prices on here for the Derby.

Although he took his time to get organised on debut, the way in which he made up ground inside the final two furlongs on his debut in a 1m maiden at Leopardstown last October really caught my eye, allowing the more experienced winner to get first run but coming nicely clear of the remainder in the end. The winner went on to win at Listed level next time (admittedly not a strong contest for the level), and his debut effort was made all the more commendable by the fact that he is bred to excel at three, being a close relation of connections' 2000 Guineas winner Refuse To Bend and a half brother to the yard's Melbourne Cup winner Media Puzzle.

He is due to reappear in a traditionally well contested 10f maiden back at Leopardstown this Sunday, and that says to me that Weld is keen to test him early and see whether he is worthy of taking in a Derby trial of some description. Obviously he would have to win and win well to earn that chance, but I would be both surprised and a little disappointed if he wasn't up to making some kind of impact this season given the promise he showed on that debut run.

Anyone else got any thoughts on this colt?

Weld on atr the weekend gave him a good mention - his best 3yo

Thanks for that. I hadn't heard that particular interview, so good to know! Looking forward to his return with even more relish now. Let's hope he can live up to his trainer's billing.

BJG,

did he say he thought he was his best 3 year old or was it your perception of what he said ?
Report sintonian March 24, 2011 9:21 PM GMT

Holds an entry for the 10f on the card at the Curragh this Sunday.

Disappointing he couldn't get his head in front today. However, it was a good debut performance from the winner and the 3rd looks smart as well.

Yeah probably a good maiden.

The money came for the winner .. 7/1 into 7/2 with Aidan's son aboard. Something to note as Empowering was smashed from 12 into 5's last week .. same result!

Yes, I was also disappointed that he was unable to win. However, for all Derby aspirations are probably out of the window, he still rates, IMO, as a very nice middle distance prospect for the season. The first three looked to be above average colts.

think its obvious to say a step up to 12 will be a plus, quite liked the run of  6th placed Parkers Mill also, really think this could be a decent maiden

That was a good maiden lads....still disappointing if he cant win on his 2nd start always IMO

6.35 Tipperary, 12f.

See he won well, which given his price was obviously expected.

Where to now ?
Report sintonian April 15, 2011 11:58 AM BST
He was 11/10 in the morning and was smahed int 2/5.

I guess the Derrinstown would be next port of call if they want to aim high.

St Ledger horse imo
Report duncan idaho April 15, 2011 2:19 PM BST
