reasosn are ..

He jumped great on his debut, the trip looks plumb at this stage of his career, the form has been franked twice by Torphicen, and also on aline through Noble Prince.

Blazing Tempo also represents Mullins. She has been a new aquisition for the yard and so far she has looked top class. But IF she runs in the (also has another engagement in a Mares race) she will be taking on the boys and needs to improve.

MDH - taking a risk here but not toally sure he will run. And even if he does, who wants to back ? He did bounce last time, but there was more to it than that imo, he jumped to his right and hung, why not just give him an easy assignment somewhere before trying for a Grade 1 again?!

Quito De La Roque is a class horse, but he needs a real test of stamina, usually on Heavy ground, and this trip is short of 3 miles.

Magnanimity - won last time out and is lightly raced, but was in receipt of weight from Jessies Dream and was a fortunate win that day, as Jessies Dreams jumping let him down badly on the final circuit and he jumped right at the last fence costing him a precious few lengths, and was only beat half a length at the finish.

The rest dont look good enough imvho.

Taking a risk as the race is still 2 weeks aways, and you can never be sure a horse will run, but the race looks tailormade for QE to my mind so chanced it.

Still keen on the 5/1 about Mikael - He'd have been 6/4 if he stood up in the Drinmore and how people can be writing him off after just one below-par run in his entire career baffles me. He'll be 5/2 if he lines up and Willie states that he's very likely to.

Report eric_morris January 23, 2011 7:58 PM GMT
Some horses make natural chasers, others may need extra help like Long Run whose jumping was average last season but absolutely transformed this after I took the mick that they revealed they didnt school him then. They have made an effort to improve his jumping in the indoor school as revealed by Waley-Cohen and to their absolute credit have come up trumps this season he has been excellent compared to last. Does Mullins do anything if, like Long Run, they are not naturals that fall in their lap as novice chasers. It would not surprise me one bit if he just cops out and sends them back over hurdles rather than improves them to win a King George which Mikael D'Haguenet has the engine to be a major contender for next season.

You all just listen to pocket talking Fkwit CVByrne and ignore me.

Bob Lingo pleased connections in a workout after racing at Leopardstown on Sunday ahead of a possible tilt at the Dr PJ Moriarty Chase back at the Dublin track in two weeks' time.

The JP McManus-owned nine-year-old got off the mark over fences in good style at Fairyhouse on New Year's Day and he may return there for his next run if trainer Tom Mullins decides to skip the Grade One contest.

"He's doing well. He did a bit of work on Sunday after racing in Leopardstown and he worked well," said the County Kilkenny handler.

"He might go to the Moriarty. If he doesn't go there, he'll go to Fairyhouse early next month for a winners of one.

"We might keep him going right-handed for the time being, we'll see how we get on."

ballymak stayed like a train again today though. trainer said would more than likely be contesting the top staying novice chases this season. think over 3m would have won quite well. 390 days off before it ran last time and that was first time over fences, stayed on really well over 3m and was beaten by alpha ridge and noun de la tint (not awful form after 13 months off and no chase experience) and was 21 lengths in front of 4th giving it 5lb (same horse it finished 16 lengths in front of today off levels), a further 16 lengths back to the mullins horse in 5th off same weight (who finished only 6 lengths behind magnanimity off level weights)

Blazing Tempo has been declared to run in a mares race tomorrow.

The Gowran race Tharawaat is in has 8 entrants, with no Quel Esprit.  Mullins runs Quadrillon in that race, so it looks like it will be QE and/or MDH for the Moriarty.
Report sintonian February 1, 2011 9:47 AM GMT
Mullins will be hoping his red-hot form can continue to next Sunday when Kempes and Cooldine will line up in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown.

After racing at Punchestown, they chased Dr PJ Moriarty Chase-bound Mikael D'Haguenet who also jumped nine fences under Townend.

Mullins said: "I was delighted with that and they all jumped well and the riders were very happy. Kempes [David Casey] and Cooldine [Davy Condon] will run next Sunday and the plan is to run Mikael D'Haguenet in the Moriarty along with Quel Esprit."

Report sintonian February 1, 2011 3:42 PM GMT
I wonder who Townend will ride ? He is 3 from 3 on QE, but MDH will need someone who knows him so it must be 50:50 as to who he chooses.
Report ChildOfMine2 February 1, 2011 5:41 PM GMT
The fact that he rode Mikael in a schooling session against Cooldine & Kempes last Sunday answers that question. I know Mikael is priced purely on reputation but he was just unfortunate more than anything else in the Drinmore. Think he could be slightly bigger on the day however.
Report sintonian February 1, 2011 6:36 PM GMT

If Mikael beats Magnanimity on Sunday it will confirm his form against Jessie's Dream and make Mikael a rightful 2nd fav for the RSA in place of current RSA 2nd fav Jessie's Dream.
