Lovely race the Vase...a nice little 12f whose who imo.
Don't see anything wrong with the defending champ in the Cup...should be a nice price too with Snow Fairy sure to go off a short price. Seen too many horsies down the years leave their races in Japan when back in Hong Kong so will pass her over.
Cant really speculate too much on the sprint and the mile cause the draw will have a big bearing.

Its not impossible that GoodBaBa could bounce right back to form in the mile. Stacelita might find it tough trying to make all and holding off the big finishers in the Cup...she'll need a good draw too. The start is only 150m to the first bend so it would be difficult if drawn wide but not impossible.
Wonder what price Snow Fairy will be on the day...already 4/1. Anything bigger and I'll get involved. Thought she wouldve been a lot shorter. If she handles the heat/humidity and the prelims then she's worth a bet.

As a result of a change of ownership, Dalghar will not now be making the trip to Hong Kong for the G1 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Sprint. His new owners are keen for the horse to be campaigned in the UK in the first half of 2011.
Dalghar’s withdrawal leaves the way clear for the entry of first reserve Cerise Cherry, easy winner on 24 October of the HKG3 Premier Bowl over the same 1200m course and distance, who will now take his place in the G1 CXHK Sprint.
Also withdrawn from the G1 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Cup is Summit Surge. The horse has not been pleasing connections in his work and they feel it would not be in Summit Surge’s best interests to travel to Hong Kong for such a demanding race.

Viva - how do you think you'll run this year? A nice trial the other weekend. Can't see Ba-Ba turning round the form with Able One either can you? Though think the race should be set up nicely for Paco. Sacred Kingdom looked a bit flat the other day too.

Scalo, winner of the G1 Preis von Europa, has been withdrawn from the G1 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Vase. The weather in Northern Europe is extremely severe at the moment, and connections reported that the horse is running a temperature which makes it impossible for him to travel.
Taking his place in the CXHK Vase field will be the John Moore-trained first reserve, Mighty High, winner of the Class 1 Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Trophy in June.
He was an interesting contender.

American's top form is over further too. Class horse, but perhaps a tough end to the season and this could be asking a bit too much.
Comments I've read suggest the ground should be good to firm, even with the watering. Didnt it P*ss it down on the event last year, and it was still good?

Sha Tin is sand based so it dries rapidly. It will need to rain on the day for it to be yielding or worse.
The draw is interesting...Low draws are beneficial but just watch out for watering the day before. sometimes...not often but its known to happen...they overwater the inside quite a lot so the horses on the rail end up having a mountain to climb hence you see horses flying home from way out wide late to win.
The only thing I'll say about Americain is that I have seen stayers perform well in this race down the years...Westerner, Purple Moon, Collier Hill and Kastoria all put in cracking performances in the Vase. In Westerner's case the jockey got a bit cockey and decided to hold him up and win with 1 big sprint finish down the outside...yeah real smart....Collier hill on the other grabbed the race by the scruff of the neck some way out and just kept pulling more as Kastoria beared down on him late. Thats all.
I'm tempted by Jousha Tree again...Both Collier Hill and Phoenix Reach won the Canadian before winning the Vase in Hong Kong and I was quite impressed with his Japan Cup run despite his finishing position. There are some tough Group class performers in here but the race is still a bit of a class drop from the stellar Japan Cup.

ELG you talk about stayers doing well in the vase, and then punt out joshua tree, a non-stayer. btw, kasbah another stayer to have run big in the vase.

2 different trends i put up...jt is the canadian int trend.
Maybe the stayers do so well because the race is not a top quality g! hence they just outclass the opposition thats left.

Also, if you look inbetween form lines then its puts the horse up there of nearly one of the best horses 1m4f horses around at the moment.
What i really like is the way that they've capaigned the horse this year, its obviously got some very smart form from last year .
Overall i think its got the best profile coming into this race.

Interesting. Dunlop has suggested Moore will ride.
Fairy flying ahead of Cup run (UKPA) – 2 days ago Snow Fairy is reported to be in great shape after she arrived at Sha Tin from Japan for the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Cup on Sunday week. The dual Oaks winner made an instant impact in the Far East with an emphatic victory in the Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup in Kyoto three weeks ago. Trainer Ed Dunlop, who saddled Ouija Board to win the Hong Kong Vase five years ago, said: "Snow Fairy has loved being centre of attention since her exciting victory in Japan. She never saw another horse in the QEII and everyone wanted to know her afterwards." The decision to run in the Cup rather than the Vase was not a difficult one for Dunlop. Although top French jockey, Christophe Lemaire was standing by to ride in the Vase if necessary, Dunlop was keen to keep Ryan Moore aboard. "Ryan gets on really well with the filly and while 2,000 metres is slightly short of her optimum trip, she has speed and can quicken," said the Newmarket trainer. "She won over six furlongs as a two-year-old." Dunlop felt bypassing the Japan Cup gave his filly an extra couple of weeks to freshen up for the Hong Kong challenge, which he considers formidable. "We are under no illusions that the Cup is going be a very tough race, what with last year's winner Vision D'Etat, Stacelita, Planteur and Hong Kong's own Collection in the line-up. "But we were encouraged to see Meisho Beluga, the filly we beat by four lengths in Kyoto, run an honourable sixth, beaten three and a quarter lengths in the Japan Cup last weekend." #

Has to be the widest open Hong Kong meeting in years.
Seriously.
I'm leaning towards Irian in the Cup. 12/1 will do me fine.
Putting my faith in the John Moore stable. They know what it takes to win around here and he's targetting the World Cup with this fella. His style of running should also negate any issues with a wide draw if he gets it because he'll be dropped in out the back and come with a late sweep down the outside.
Looks a totally different horse after being gelded. John Moore has him cherry ripe for this...3rd run off a break. 7furlongs was way too sharp for him on his comeback but he looked the business back at 10f last time.
Don't think Collection will reverse with him because Irian was won impressively last time and still had another gear left at the finish (according to his jockey) plus even with the 5lbs he was getting from Collection he was still 8lbs worse off with on the international ratings. Also I think Collection was in better form when he contested the race last year.
besides unlike the Vase and Sprint where we've had multiple winners down the years I think the Cup is a hard race for horse to put in back to back performances in...maybe because its the race of the meeting and so hotly contested...which is why I'm opposing him and Vision D'Etat.
Snow Fairy is a problem...she's in fine form and was devastating last time out but she's taken on colts this time, dropping back a furlong and switching from Japan to Hong Kong which quite a few horses haven't managed down the years.
.....
The Vase looks too cut throat for me. Too many variables...superstar course jockeys like Mosse, Multiple G1 C&D winners like Viva Pataca, Trainers and owners with a rich history in the race like Sir Michael, Elle Lelouche and the Wildenstines....you could go on and on. Could be entirely possible too that switching back to right handed track absolutely sparks Winchester into another level of form.
If one horse deserved to win it then its Jaguar Mail after back to back close finishes in the races but I wont be betting him at the price.
........
Waiting on the draw before I decide on the other races. Just wonder if this will be the last time we see Kingsgate Native. I got the feeling from reading quotes from Cheverly Park that he may be sold.
----
Only bet so far is Irian 12/1 eachway.

I'm going to have a bet that includes an outsider from each race, in an e/w Lucky 15 or similar.
Winchester - Vase Irian - Cup Good Ba Ba - Mile Ultra Fantasy - Sprint
The Mile is the one I'm struggling with. Even Good Ba Ba's trainer referred to him as old today!
The place portion pays 300/1.
I still think the favs could do well, although they're not happy with Paco Boy's draw.

hammer blow for Paco alright...he's there....he'll be giving an amazing amount of ground and a huge lead to Able One in #2.
Big guns gets low draws in the sprint so that should be a nice race to watch...Sacred Kingdom vs ROcket Man one more time.
Vase looks alright...all the big guns in the top half...Jousha tree looks like he's going to get the perfect spot to watch everything happen.
Happy with the CUp draw.
craig williams riding for Sir Michael...Ryan sticks with Snow Fairy. Think he's probably got sold too.

Glass Harmonium has been brought by Australian interests and will be trained by Michael Moroney and raced in Australia. That is why Moore rides Snow Fairy.

I wouldn't rule out Viva Pataca from the vase either, ran a nice trial the other week over a mile and isn't too old just yet. Fownes is also very keen on Green Birdie in the sprint.

One World - Leg infection and required antibiotics midweek. Beadman switches to the other Moore runner Let Me Fight.
Able One - Cast in his box and has an abrasion to his left eye. Worked in pacifiers midweek to protect eye from sunlight and was apprehensive.
Board Meeting - 1/4 crack in off fore hoof with associated infection on Wednesday...has been comfortable since being reshood with heart bar plates.

No heat and humidity to contend with for Euros - Cup just about one of the best races I've ever seen. Will be at Sha Tin playing some of the prices, esp like Planteur in the cup, Sacred Kingdom as solid as can be, Saphresa a big price for mile here in HK.
Race 3 sees the HK debut of Xtension, 4th in 2000 guineas and 3rd in the Dewhurst - has to be one of the best imports here for a while - straight into a class 1 race but ran a decent trial and could be a nice price.
Crystal Capellas the one for me in the Vase, but the HK bettors are keen on Ryan Moore after he cleaned up at Happy Valley on Weds - will keep on the right side of Viva Pataca too.
Could be a day for the French.

HK Accie - I would think so, Collection was top class handicapper and won a listed race, Xtension 4th in a classic, that shades it for me - usually takes an age for good Euro horses to acclimatise but I was impressed with the trial - not the only one though as 8/1 a bit skinny against proven C1 horses.
You get to the Valley much?

Collection's improved massively out there from what I saw.
Really like Planteur in the big one, I was very much against this one for the Arc but I think he's a horse who doesn't need a pacemaker so if they go a more natural pace he'll be able to use his excellent turn of foot to kick clear at this tight track.
Other ones I like are Mastery in the Vase, who looks to be getting back to his Leger standard and Sahpresa in the mile. Think she's improved this year and is now a very classy filly. Like Paco obviously but can't back him with the draw and after the long season he's had. Good luck everyone tomorrow morning

Prices on here will be co-mingled pools or reflect only Aussie pool prices? Some big differences in HK pools on French horses.
