Imperial Commander looks strong for this considering his 2nd behind Kauto... however in the last three years has never won away from Cheltenham. I also think he had a hard race in the Gold Cup and although a lot fresher i think he is worth taking on.

WAF beat IC at Aintree, nicholls stated in RP he thought WAF had a good chance in the Hennessey but opted for this. i think thats a tip itself, also Haydock will  suit this horse a lot better than IC.

You have to remember IC will only have 3 rus this season, 2 of the tracks (haydock and Kempton) are just preparation for the big one at Cheltenham, whereas with WAF he is building his CV and will want add this race to it. Glad Sam Thomas is onboard... think he will have two fantastic saturdays with WAF & Denman

good luck

I personally think IC will win based on its run last year. WAF every chance though.

i like waf too, he is on the up and achieved what he did last year with a breathing problem that has been corrected, when he won in ireland he proved that he isn't averse to the odd battle....i must admit that in the hennessy it looked to me that he would race past denman put after closing denman down and at of the final few fences....would not race away from the fence....and on the basis of this i admit to having a concern as to what he'll do against a slugger that refuses to go away.....i can see thomas coming there going well up the straight...fingers crossed from there on in thoughGrin

wont be backing either horses mentioned in my opinion both could be beat here

only horse that could threaten top 2 is NACARAT,but got deserted by Thomas... i think his aim is KG...so Winnerallrite who do u fancy then?

As soon as I saw 4s on What A Friend my eyes lit up. Hell of a chance. Small field, flat track, fto...perfect
Report toon4eva November 17, 2010 10:25 PM GMT
I've backed him think he is a fantastic price.
Report Howdi November 17, 2010 10:45 PM GMT
AGREE I would have had him at 5-2 here.
Report SatelliteFlight November 18, 2010 4:43 PM GMT
Agreed had a decent wedge on him @ 7/2, think everything is perfect for him saturday
Report buddeliea November 18, 2010 5:39 PM GMT
Would have to be something wrong with IC for WAF to win this.
They are level weights you know!!
Report buddeliea November 18, 2010 5:52 PM GMT
Guess you are all hoping IC repeats his Aintree performance, rather than Haydock or his Gold Cup win.Spose it could happen, but if they both run to their best form, only one winner at level weights.
Report ben10 November 18, 2010 5:58 PM GMT
Bud, you've taken it as a given that What A Friend hasn't improved. He's only raced 12 times and he's also had a wind op which could count for something, going on what Ruby has said.
Report buddeliea November 18, 2010 6:16 PM GMT
Yes he could well improve as he is only 7,and a wind op could help. But he is a fair way behind if you take in form with Denman.Gave him stone and half and a beating this time last year.Would have to be some improvement, although i admit his last 2 runs last season were better.
Report ben10 November 18, 2010 6:29 PM GMT
Would be harsh to judge him solely on his Hennessy run, I thnk the type of horse that Denman is means a handicap doesn't really make a difference to him, he just toughs it out from the front in his typical fashion, he definitely needs to improve though but that's how I see him having a chance as I think the improvement is in there. Look at IC's form before he took on Kauto in this race last year, his 14th start. What A Friend arguably looks more progressive than he did going into it.
Report gart November 18, 2010 6:42 PM GMT
imo you 'll get 6.0 on here by saturday. partly due to the fact that on official ratings he still has something to find with planet of sound and only 1lb ahead of nacarat.
Report buddeliea November 18, 2010 6:59 PM GMT
Fair enough Ben,not sure the price is right myself given the improvement needed, but i wish you luck.No bet in the race for me.
Report ben10 November 18, 2010 7:06 PM GMT
Actually not sure I'll play either! Loads of better bets this weekend I reckon, just felt that it wasn't a case of there being only one winner at levels as you said. I have him in my ten to follow and not IC though, and I planned for this race with him.

oh dear picked by Tom Segal! Whenever he tips my selection it goes down...!
Report buddeliea November 21, 2010 9:56 AM GMT
