no doubt the winner is a machine but i just felt it was a bit of an anti climax with saamid and dream ahead running poorly

Not really. Was all about Frankel and he delivered. Shame about Saamid and Dream but at least we now know they're no good.
Report sintonian • October 16, 2010 4:26 PM BST
I agree you about Frankel AT, but to say the other to are no good is quite frankly stupid.
Report A_T • October 16, 2010 4:34 PM BST
When I say "no good" I mean while they are nice horses they are not going to win any more G1s. Dream Ahead's Middle Park was a soft ground fluke and Saamid's G2 win is about his level.

sorry mate, I still think that is ridiculous .. it is October and they are all 2 year olds.

Matthew Tester, the head handicapper for 2yo, siad yesterday that having seen all the horse close up, he thought Sammidd had particular scope for improvement.

I agree in that they might not be Classics contenders, but they both ran shockers, must be better than that effort surely?

Think Saamidd will be a better 3yo tbh,and he needs good fast ground imo, very early days for these horses and its a long time to the guineas[;)]
Report A_T • October 16, 2010 5:13 PM BST
I suppose it's possible Dream bottomed out in the Middle Park and Saamid is a purely summer fast ground horse.
Report mythical prince • October 16, 2010 5:30 PM BST
frankel wasn't as visually impressive as he was at ascot. but now theres substance to go with the style.

clearly he'll be very hard to beat in the guineas, although i reserve the chance to change my mind Cry

it was biled as the best juvenile race of the century 3 superstars clashing .to me it was an anti climax 1 exceptional horse beating good decent horses .like most dewhursts

I don't think it was an anti climax, I think it answered many questions! Frankel I didn't think was very impressive, although I was told that connections are genuinely delighted with his performance, and he ran a better race than they expected...interesting! Dream Ahead just didn't stay, plain and simple! He's a six furlong horse who will be a fabulous sprinter next year, but not a classic contender! Saamidd, I think everyone knows will be a better three year old! Personally I think he'll miss the Guineas next year, but think he'll win a big mid summer race; possibly the King George at Ascot, or the QEII!? Against what Henry Cecil says, personally I think Frankel will be better over middle distances than a mile...he's got Derby horse written all over him! He hasn't got an electric turn of pace, he moves comfortably through gears! I wouldn't take the odds about him for the 2000 Guineas, as in recent years the race has been a tactical affair and suits a horse who can explode off a crawl...King Torus, for example!

YES, imo, it didnt live up to its belling as the best two year old race in my lifetime as it said on the tin.

Its thrown up a couple of answers and a few more questions
Report dwm767 • October 16, 2010 8:57 PM BST
All questioned answered for me...lay Frankel for the Guineas, back Saamidd from July, back Dream Ahead over six furlongs!
Report DMCK • October 17, 2010 12:03 AM BST
i figure frankel to be a near carbon copy of new approach, he'll go close in the Guineas, might stretch the old stamina for the derby but will clean up over the G1 10f races
Report mythical prince • October 17, 2010 1:36 AM BST
he's got more class than new approach though. new approach couldn't have done what he did in the royal lodge, not in a million years. has the same ability to grind it out and huge stride but has more brilliance.

Dream Ahead shoud never have run, not sure why Saammid underperformed - maybe the ground and he was a bit of a mule at the start so maybe wasn't 100% happy on the day?

I think the 2nd is a very decent horse and could have mopped up a Group 3 in Ireland easily had connections kept his sights lower.

Frankel was impressive enough, has a terrific cruisng speed and quickened up to challenge without any rel effort. Didn't stretch as far clear as it looked like he might and Evens is probably the right price for the 2,000 given it's over 6 months away. Based on what I saw I just can't have him as a Derby horse.

He wasn't as impressive as Xaar when he won the Dewhurst or SNA in the RPT last year and of course they only finished 4th and 6th in the Guineas so anyone who thinks it's all done and dusted has a very selective memory.

it was an anti climax but only because 2 of the runners in a 3 horse race didnt turn up.what else could it have been.
Report Prima Donna • October 17, 2010 9:37 AM BST
I don't think it was an anti climax,Frankle looked every bit as good as what was hoped,Dream Ahead imo didn't stay the trip it was probably one race too many don't think he can use the ground as any excuse didn't stop him in his previous races,I wonder if Saamidd is a monkey who perhaps may have his own ideas about the game it won't surprise me if he does not train on,the Ballydoyle runner looks the type who wants a trip doubt he will be a GNS horse.
