Just seen a text ad at the top of the racing page on sportinglife.com promoting Denman at 12-1 for the king George.
If he was twelve million to one it would be terrible value as there simply isn't any chance whatsoever that he will run, he won't even be entered. Everyone inside racing knows this.

I know it's an antepost race and if someone requests a price they are certainly entitled to quote one, even if it's for Denman to win the x-factor. But to aggressively advertise odds on a known non-runner is an absolutely shameful attempt to fleece novice punters who don't do their homework, and is just the sort of thing that turns new customers away from the sport.

But it's worse than bad marketing, it's bordering on fraud. The flockton grey gang were found guilty of conspiracy to defraud bookmakers basically because they placed bets involving horses they planned to withdraw, i.e. horses they knew were non-runners and the bookmaker didn't. I don't see how this isn't just as bad.

Strangely anough all firms that quote are 10-1, 14-1 and 16-1.

Do you think they wouldn't run him if kauto didnt run ?

Surely the owners of said horse brought the game into disrepute more than the antepost bookmakers in question ?

Flockton Grey was a ringer.

You are thinking of the Gay Future case.

Barry, Ante Post punters are far from stupid and If one firm had taken a penny on Denman I would be surprised.

"Do you think they wouldn't run him if kauto didnt run ?"

Nicholls has said he will never run right handed ever again.

Also he said Lexus is too close to the Hennessy so that's why Denman has stopped running there, so in that case King George is a total no go on even if it wasn't Right Handed

If he is not entered and a bookmaker takes a bet you get your money back

"Seems as if everyone is out to rob everyone and that attitude perpetuates to those who are just looking at self protection. Unfortunately its not just a bookie/punter thing it just runs through the veins of people in the UK (urban people mainly) so I don't think we should single out bookies as being the bad guys."

Snobby bollox to that

I never actually asked you about your life or where you live. I made a remark with regards to your singling out the urban community for irregularities, and you have saw it as a license to criticise this country. It is apparent though that ex pats are always trying to preach to us about where they now live, and how awful our country is and how depressed we should all be because we live here. Let me make something clear as to not cause any confusion, i couldn't give a damn where faceless people behind a pc live, who they are or what they do. Thanks.
