Twiston-Davies snr has a reputation of discarding his apprentices when they have ridden out their claim. David England was badly treated in my opinion given few good rides since he lost his claim. Tom Molloy is likely to go the same way.

Sam Twiston-Davies may represent a problem as he is the trainer's son. Clearly he is no where near the class of Paddy Prennan and to complicate matters more his other son Willy is due to start riding in the next couple of years Cry

See he has been given loads more rides at Bangor tomorrow. Brennan getting annoyed??
Report tinkler • October 8, 2010 7:05 PM BST
I'd expect he will still get a lot of rides from his Dad.
Doesn't matter how good Brennan is. Who wouldn't put their own son up if
he had some ability. Good luck to him.

If my son was like that when it comes to mistakes when riding horses then i know what id tell him..... go and get yourself a a cushy job in the bank or somethin will ya son like a good lad

Didn't he do well last season ?
Report pedrobob • October 11, 2010 12:18 AM BST
Clearly he is no where near the class of Paddy Prennan .....

Much rather have Sam on board than Brennan, Sam already miles better at a fence. Nearest thing I have to McCoy since....... McCoy

^^^

hope your fishing
Report revedesivola • October 11, 2010 11:38 AM BST
disagree there. paddy brennan rides al the way to the finish when a horse requires it and knows were a three mile finish line is. if STD had done the above on anyone elses horses hed be long gone
Report pedrobob • October 11, 2010 11:55 AM BST
Sam is only 18. Everyone makes mistakes. He's already got a higher winning strike rate than Paddy, and would have been higher still if he had counted the circuits to go and not stopped riding on a couple of occasions....
Report revedesivola • October 11, 2010 12:04 PM BST
its easy to have a high strike rate when your old man is holdin your hand and lookin after you. I think the best jocks out there are those who have to work there arse off to even get rides and get goin not ones that get rides courtesy of a family member who obviously feels its their duty to give rides. I consider the likes of david bass to name a newcomer to be better than STD and who has a lesser strike rate but who got to where he is because of ability rather than relations
Report pedrobob • October 11, 2010 12:18 PM BST
I guess that's where we differ then - that you think the trainer gives rides to Sam because he's his son.

Sam got a 16.5% strike rate in 2010, and that includes 12-86 (14%) when NOT riding for his father. Those 12 winners have come for 9 different trainers, all of them small, with maybe the exception of Colin Tizzard and the rising Martin Keighley

Clearly talented , and will be champion jock if AP retires in next 4-5 years.

you hae to remember that the twiston davies stable is in particularly good form and they generally have a 10 percent strike rate or around that. i think that often small trainers that give him rides do so to be pally with nigel. i think if david bass got what rides std has gotten this year on accout of his connections he would have more winners ie. hed be well able to win on what std won on and he wouldnt try to be smug about easing horses down too far from home and woulnt be riding finishes a mile early.

Sam is an excellent NH jockey. When he loses his claim,he will be in the top 5 jocks for a long time, barring accidents. This will be due to his skill rather than his surname imo.
Report revedesivola • October 11, 2010 1:48 PM BST
hes nowhere near the standard of maguire, mccoy, johnson, thomas, walsh, geraghty, fehily. god loves a dreamer though!

ok fair enuf sam has a nack for fallin but theres much more than 4 jocks ahead of STD. i think sam is good value on his day for his claim but when that goes????? remember theres been many a good conditional that gets hardly any winners once the claim is gone..... nick scholfield etc
Report revedesivola • October 11, 2010 2:09 PM BST
by the way is that good luck for the season aimed towards the mighty reve in the persuit of more grade one wins?????Happy

Report Albion Dan • October 11, 2010 2:51 PM BST
Ive heard a rumour STD id going to get the job as Nick Williams' stable.  I Hope this doesnt happen as i really like STD and i dont think NW would give him the ammunition to really progress his career.
Report ben10 • October 11, 2010 2:52 PM BST
A horse I assume
Report revedesivola • October 11, 2010 5:12 PM BST
i hard that too dan! hed obviously be a major addition to the twiston davies stable if he got a job elsewhere but im afraid hed only get two thirds of the way there and then stop. i shouldremind you that mr williams is an astute trainer![;)]
Report Albion Dan • October 11, 2010 5:47 PM BST
Prefer Ian Williams tbh.
Report Brooksielad • October 11, 2010 7:33 PM BST
