I am definately a Youmzain fan and hope he goes close in the Arc. However, I cannot ignore some each way prices for CAVALRYMAN, he won the Prix Niel last year to go on to get 3rd in the ARC behind STS. That was under Fabre who has a decent record in the race. Because he has been running poorly ppl tend to forget that he was placed in the Arc... so worth considering.
From Fabre to Godolphin ... Godolphin seem to be hitting some form this year and with Poets Voice last week which was avaiable at 16/1 (early in the week) was sent off 9/2. Its worth considering a big weekend double...
Cavalryman is the only horse they have entered and considering there were a few that could have got in they unusually rely on one.
I think he will be a lot shorter on the day, if it was trained by Fabre I reckon it would be 10s... He has won on good to soft and been placed on heavy... he is a course and distance winner and has not run in France since his placed effort in the Arc...
Up until her retirement I had backed DAR REI ME for the ARC so I switched to a horse which had finished in front of her in the ARC, most people rated the winner as the best turf horse ever, although I never waivered from SEA BIRD ii as the best I ever saw, second in that ARC was the old stager YOUMZAIN , but surely he must naturally be regressing at his age, (jockeys seem to hold him up too long and he looks like an unlucky loser, but they'll do it again especially with Hughes on board), the obvious choice MUST be Cavalryman who anyone should expect to improve from 3 to 4, although it looks as if that is not the case, even so if he does win then for a small stake I will win quite handsomely.
