I love the Arkle, one of my favourite races!  Backed 4 already - Get Me Out Of Here at 36 because he is a chaser and last season was a bonus and he will have AP on board so will shorten to lay off at the least; Loosen My Load at 42, really hope he wins as spotted him as a chaser when he won at Cheltenham early last season, wont be many better jumpers, just suspect he may want 2.5 miles; Peddlers Cross at 42 - saver in case he goes chasing instead of fulfilling histiny and winning the Champion Hurdle; Mikhael D'Haguenet at 29 - was top class before his injury and if he returns and is as he was he has too much speed for the Sun Alliance.  Whatever you back a great race!

I've just started up a blog for the first time which i will keep updated over the winter.

Just written a blog with a very early view on this coming seasons Arkle with a selection if any of you are interested.

http://extremeconviction.blogspot.com/

Or if you're not - my selection in short at the moment is Muirhead!
Report Rondetto September 4, 2010 11:26 AM BST
I would have strong reservations about Celtic Halo making a chaser. He's got speed and plenty of it but his style of jumping isn't that of a natural chaser. That can be a dangerous combination.

Don't forget that Mikael Dhaguenet hasn't jumped a fence yet which means Willie Millins will keep us all guessing for months on where he intends running him. Much will depend on how strong an Arkle it looks but if Jonjo sends Get Me Out of Here fencing which he is very likely to do then the Arkle may be a foregone conlussion.

Last season the Arkle had so much talent going for it but this season it looks poor in comparison. Take away  Mikael Dhaguenet and it has the look of turning out to be one very ordinary Arkle.

Get Me Ot of Here looks the best AP choice.
Report Stace September 4, 2010 1:34 PM BST
Great blog Extreme, you are right to focus on the highest rated hurdlers as the reliability of these in the Arkle stands up well, unlike in the Sun Alliance.  Still fancy Get Me Out Of Here though as he is very lightly raced, only having 6 runs in his life and must be open to plenty of improvement.  Also I keep remembering his Tote Trophy win and he therefore has those battling qualities you need at the business end of the Arkle
Report mythical prince September 4, 2010 2:44 PM BST
celestial halo will run in that race that tatiano (or however you spell it) and tatenen won the last two years, price will collapse to 7-1 etc after he pisses it

There'll be more there when a) i get the hang of wordpress and b) some horses actually run!

Good luck all.

I might be wrong stace but Get Me Out Of Here stays over hurdles this season.
Report Ibrahima Sonko September 4, 2010 9:37 PM BST
You would think he would stay over hurdles as you dont know how good he is yet.
Report Far From Trouble September 4, 2010 9:51 PM BST
would they really throw GMOOH in against binocular in the Champion? Can't see him going down the three mile route. Chasing would appear the obvious option to me
Report Ibrahima Sonko September 4, 2010 10:44 PM BST
different trainers, he doesnt look like a horse that will stay further. JP has had many multiple entries for the same target in the past. It helps that they are at different trainers.

That TGT at newbury was top class, i had a life changing bet of spirit river and when he smacked that 'fence' i did more than cry.

GMOOH could easily be placed in a champion hurdle and bino is getting older by the year.
Report Far From Trouble September 4, 2010 11:54 PM BST
I accept that tbh.

At the potential risk of being hooked, Bino and GMOOH are the same age Plain
Report dananders September 5, 2010 12:28 AM BST
paul nicholls will tell everyone that sang bleu is his number 1 novice chaser. i got the feeling theyd given up on celestial halo b4 his excellent run at aintree before falling

abbott,hiya...is that correct?
Report Stace September 5, 2010 10:28 AM BST
Cheers Abbot, yes I read that at the end of last season but he does look every inch a chaser and if Binocular stays sound surely they'd switch this one to chasing rather than have 2 in the Champion Hurdle.  Had a saver on him for the Champion Hurdle though just in case!
Report abbott September 5, 2010 12:40 PM BST
Hi ftm. Going on memory I read quotes that he 'could be anything over hurdles and the sky really was the limit'
Obviously things can change over the summer or even at the start of the season but IMO the horse looks set for a season over hurdles. Especially if as I expect Bino runs a few avarage races on the lead up to the festival. As stated earlier JP doesnt seem to bother about havingf more than one horse going for the same race and with diff trainers it shouldnt be a problem.
Report ftm September 5, 2010 3:09 PM BST
cheers .id have thought the arkle was a better route ,but ,that could just be me and my "chasing"eyes.
as menorahs going churdle route i can see why they would be keen to re-oppose,possibly.
that said one looks a chaser and hobbsys doesnt.
Report CheltenhamAntePoster September 5, 2010 3:48 PM BST
Thanks Rondetto - how on earth can you suggest that the 2011 Arkle will be ordinary ?

We have no certain ideas on what horses will be going chasing, let alone contesting the 2 mile trip, and as no sod has seen anything jump a fence in public yet, I'd say your pessimism ranks higer than anything I've ever known.

At least wait until Christmas before making such a comment to avoid appearing ridiculous.

Does anybody know how WALKON is doing, and if he is to go chasing this year?
Report abbott September 5, 2010 7:18 PM BST
As I said I might be wrong but I would def be keeping him over hurdles aswell. His Tote win was breathtaking and IMO only circumstances saw him lose at Cheltenham. I personally cant belive how much everybody went overboard about Bino's Champion Hurdle win and I think JP may feel the same. It was a very strange race with a lot on the bridle turning for home then in trouble on the straight.  Might be wrong but unless we have lightening fast ground again at the festival bino wont be winning anymore champion hurdles.

wouldnt mind seeing wishfull thinking going for this, been running over further so far but looks a proper chaser imo and was still going very well when coming to grief in the coral cup,40's is tempting but might hold fire until hobbs has his stable tour.

Quwetwo could be special over fences and has shown that he has speed as well as battling qualities when beating Zaynar last season....I'll a little at the 36pts currently.

I like Reve De Sivola but i'm not sure if he is going chasing this season. I think his previous festival form is good and i like horses who stay further in the Arkle. Does anyone know if he is going chasing i know Nick Williams said he might go for the world hurdle at the end of last season.

Contrary to market expectations the British novice hurdlers (excluding the 3m slog) and bumper horses comprehensively out-pointed the Irish at this year's festival. Just an observation which might or might not be relevant to the 2011 Arkle.
