I wonder how he compares with Jannood who runs in the National Stakes.I think he'll dot up in the Champagne if he goes.

Looks like a disappointing turnout for the Champagne...so should hopefully take that in his stride on the way to bigger things...Dewhurst...Guineas..[or alternatively never to be seen or heard of again once departed for Dubai)..

Stake, IF this horse is a genuine Guineas contender do you think there is a chance they will leave him here over the winter .. they did with one or two last season.

I still think the plans are generally to take them back to Dubai. I e-mailed them about the Al Zarooni 2 y-os and they said the same thing.

Do you know which ones were left in Newmarket this year?

Kite Wood was left here 2 years ago because the sale was too late for him to be sent over there but they always take them off to Dubai as far as I know?

They left Al Zir behind, iirc. No idea why tbh Laugh There was one other aswell.

Chabal was definitely in Dubai I thought, that's how he got that medication in his system for the Sandown race wasn't it?

Actually might have got that wrong, doesn't seem to make a difference either way though on current records!

Al Zir was definitely in Dubai over the winter - see the following link.

http://www.godolphin.com/PhotoGalleryMain.aspx?gid=343

I was under the impression that all the 2yos (bar those transferred into Godolphin at the end of the year from Johnston's and Fabre's yards etc) went to Dubai but I could be wrong.

Exciting couple of days for the Godolphin camp.

Sintonian, thanks for the heads up will watch with interest although ive had a strong word for the Godolphin new comer Male Model and im not surprised given his strike rate on the All Weather.

Have also just looked in more detail at the next two days at Doncaster and think there is some cracking action, interesting Group, Maiden & Handicap races.

Very interested to see how he fares in the Champagne Stakes tomorrow. Obviously the form of that Newbury maiden win hasn't quite been working out, with Buckland and Musawama beaten in the past couple of days, but he was visually very impressive, showing a sharp and sustained turn of foot throughout the final furlong and still had running left in him at the line. Looks a very exciting prospect, though at a shade of odds on I may well sit back and watch rather than get involved.

he'll hose up tommorow. interesting to see what comes out of the national stakes as well. i like pathfork but janood is quite interesting at the prices.

he'll hose up tommorow

Hopefully he will. It is always nice to see an impressive debut winner confirm that promise at a higher level, such as Frankel today.

As for the National Stakes, much will depend on how the ground is riding. Janood seemed to relish the rain softened conditions when winning the Washington Singer, though the form of that race was devalued by Zaidan not coping with conditions. I cannot see past Pathfork if the ground is fine for him. Ireland's most exciting 2yo IMO.

The 2nd home, Yair Hill, runs 4.40 Goodwood today but we'll know our fate by then. It is soft ground at Goodwood today however.

Whilst I think he may win, and you couldnt fail to be impressed with his maiden victory, I thought Saamidd would be a 7/2 with Memory being the odds on favourite - not the other way round. To this extent I think that the value is Memory and Saamidd is over priced.

However I hope he dots up, ala White Moonstone.

you've lost me a bit with that post do you mean Waiters Dream or Approve?
By:

When: 11 Sep 10 11:55
clearly the old memory's gone! [;)]

they must think a lot of this horse to make him so short against waiters dream and approve, two horses who already show a high level of form. of course if i'm being totally objective, i agree that he represents no value. However i'm not totally convinced that the gimcrack was a great renewal, or the acomb for that matter (the withdrawal of dream ahead left the meehan horse with little to beat)

waiters dream strikes me as a bit of a grinder, so i'm not convinced that doncaster will really suit his racing style, however saamid on looks seems very much like white moonstone, tall leggy and athletic, with a turn of foot, normally such a horse should be ideal for doncaster.

The only worry for me, is that they may go no pace in such a small field, and saamid might pull for his head.
By:

DOH! Yes I meant Approve, what an idiot!!

I thought the market would have Approve as favourite and Saamidd around the say 7/2 mark.

I would like Saamidd to hose up (as ive done a Godolphin accumulator at Doncaster today) but my head says he's the wrong price.

Seriously though the 2,000 in now no-go area for me. Saamid, Frankel, something from Coolmore etc etc. Too difficult.

A top class performance there from Saamidd - can't fail to be seriously impressed with that.

We've got some Guineas to look forward to now.

Saamidd gave Godolphin a dream start to Ladbrokes St Leger day when winning the Neptune Investment Management Champagne Stakes at Doncaster.

The 5-6 favourite breezed clear of Waiter's Dream, who had grudgingly attempted to make the running, passing the two-furlong marker and slalomed earnestly away under Frankie Dettori.

Without even hitting top gear, the unbeaten Saamidd still had two and a quarter lengths in reserve of Approve at the line.

Dettori said: "From the first day I set my eyes on him I knew he was such a beautiful individual.

"You can see how calm he is and he also has a good physique.

"He's done it really well."

Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford said: "He has always shown us plenty at home, and at Newbury on his debut he was really good.

"He would have been much better suited by a stronger pace here, but he has won it really well - he put the race to bed at the two-furlong pole.

"The plan is to go for the Dewhurst now. He has got loads of ability."

ran the last two furlongs slower than frankel did yesterday although the frankel race was run at a crawl. seriously hope that frankel is aimed at the dewhurst as that would be a race to savour.

If you dont mind Frankel being thrown in against these speedsters and compromising his Derby chances it would be a good move. They need top be sure if they are going for the Guineas if they try the Dewhurst with Frankel as the Racing Post Trophy is perfect for him as a Derby prep a la Motivator while the others are scrapping it out in the Dewhurst/Guineas.
By:

When: 11 Sep 10 15:10
I agree Eric.

For all the promise Frankel has shown .. he just does not look a Guineas horse at all imo, and his speed has been shown with plenty of give in the Ground.  Saamidd today showed again his turn of foot and it would have been even more marked on Good or Good to Firm.

If they meet in the Dewhurst on Good Soft then Frankel would have a big chance, but if it is Good or GF this Saamidd will leave them for dead imvho.

Saamid was very impressive and has very good form now indeed.

A couple of things though. People should try to stop making the mistake of stating that Frankel's win was with "plenty of give". His first win was on soft. The Doncaster romp and easily his best run of the two so far was on ground that was slightly on the fast side of good. he may need good going rather than slow to be at his very best.

regards Saamidd, he has a very good chance of staying 12 furlongs next year and woiuld be a very decent Derby prospect. His sire is young and there is not really enough information to be sure, but Street Cry has the look of a sire like cape cross or other milers, with the ability to get stayers if there is plenty of stamina on the female side.

The dam's side of Saamidd's pedigree is just all stamina - with his grandad being Galileo and his great grandad being Rainbow Quest. he looks sure to get 10 furlongs and will probably get 12. He looks like the best bet for both Guineas and Derby at this stage; except for Godolphin's established habit of taking top class horses away to Dubai and making them disappear forever that is.
By:

taking him to dubai (imo) is a big negative in regards the gns.

When: 12 Sep 10 08:17
I am old enough to remember when Godolphin first started. They took Ballancine away from Peter Ch H, and she came back and won the Oaks and Irish Derby. Then they had at least one 2000 Guineas winner.
The godolphin spring trials in Dubai had a major influence on the Guineas markets each year. There were British trainers who started over wintering their horses in warm countries as it seemed to be a definite advantage to do so.

How times have changed!
